From one Gary to Gary, you will do fine. The eating habits you learn on the pre op will reward you after surgery. Find the things you like now, so that you can revisit them when you have those times, when the needle on the scale gets stuck.

True Results gives you a 30 second egg timer. I get it out from time to time when I need to retrain myself.

Where are you band?
AZ Gary replied to Brandiluvzu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt it on the first fill. Even cold water was hard, but I think that was the shock of the new fluid in the band. But everyone's results will vary. -
June 2013 Bandsters - How are you doing?

LessLee congrats on passing one of the many marks that end in a zero. -
How do I kick the soda
AZ Gary replied to jujusmommy07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely cut out the diet coke when I started my pre opt diet and while the lack of caffeine was hard for the first week or so, today I don't miss it at all. This is from someone who could drink 6 - 10 cans a day. And I know when I would get one from the store, something else always hopped into the bag at the register. -
is there any restriction when you first get a band?
AZ Gary replied to annanyc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went two months with no fills. I agree with the previous comment that it really is a lifestyle change. My wife and I are using My Fitness Pal and always check a meal before we eat to see what the impact is going to be rather than saying afterwards, gee I wish I hadn't eaten all that...... -

Just got bad from my visit at the WLS center. We decided to hold off on a fill for a month since I will be travelling. I was down 16 in the 27 days since the last visit/fill. So I can't complain about the results. I've got my eyes set on the half way mark. Now within 7 pounds of hitting it. -
Making a note to myself to shave over the port area prior to going in for a fill. I swear the NP used a cotton ball and a square of duct tape afterwards. Port being sore was enough, but pulling the bandage off before a shower was the worst.

My goal reward system
AZ Gary replied to stephwellman's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It worked for me. I bought a really loud pair of pants at Kohl 80% rack that was 3 sizes too small. Made the decision when I can fit into them, people are going to notice, even if it is for the colors. (And I'm almost there....) -
Get it in writing as to what plans they will accept. I have seen to many people find out that that the insurance people tend to blur the facts on what they will cover.

What's on your goal bucket list?
AZ Gary replied to Wanna-Be-Healthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go scuba diving with needing to carry 25 pounds of lead to stay down. (Fat floats) -
I like the chocolate Muscle Milk light mixed with 4-6oz of coffee.

NSV never before has this happened!

The positive things will start to snowball. It is almost as addictive as the food was. -
Since they are becoming available for this season, how many of you are getting flu shots as a preventive measure? I know at work I am around a lot of difference people and also have a couple of trips planned. The thought of getting sick with a stomach bug is something I really don't want to encounter.

Funny, but I know several people that the comment would hold true for.

Chicken seems to also be a tough one for me also. But it seems to be hit or miss on what passes or hangs up. -
Almost all the ones I looked at were over 200 calories a bar. Not sure if I would want to expend a sixth of my daily allotment for that.

Just stay away from gas producing foods or drinks. How long as it been since you were banded?

A little confused as to what this will cost me
AZ Gary replied to intelirish's topic in Insurance & Financing
That should be a well known figure. With True Results it was 9866 and included a full year of follow-up. The plus of self pay if you can afford it is that you are usually on the HOV lane to being banded. No hoops or hurdles of insurance company imposed rules. I figure I am 50 pounds ahead of where I would be if they paid. Not to mention having a lot less stress. -
I have the ZIP and love it. It is lower cost than the upper models and if you go to Best Buy they have a two pack you could get for your exercise partner or to have as a spare.

new here. looking for a Tucson, AZ surgeon
AZ Gary replied to justjackie22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Stevenson with True Results in Scottsdale I think also has a practice in Tucson. I was originally scheduled with him, but was switched by TR due to some scheduling issues. I did meet with him for the consult and liked him. Also checked him out with the DO Board and nothing on his file to not consider using him. -
Parting is such sweet sorrow
AZ Gary replied to bluegirly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look down at the scale and ask yourself, were those foods really my friends? Some you can have again in moderation, but your tastes will change. I know mine did. -
Any one have a that was stupid moment?
AZ Gary posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through the first couple of months without a stuck episode, but have had a few minor ones since my fill. All due to my own fault of getting distracted while eating and swallowing too fast. Usually within seconds, I think that was dumb on my part because I know it was going to get caught even before it did. -
The last few times I have been in there, there was no wait at all.

The information provided by it is so much better than what your provider may give you. If anything it will provoke some questions to things they didn't tell you.
