About Me

In early 2008, I began feeling extremely sleepy and had pain all over. I thought it was the flu but it persisted for over 3 weeks. I went to the doctors and was put through a series of tests. About every month I began to go to the doctor and every month I was put on a different medication- I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I gained over 100 lbs in 5 months and nothing was helping with the fatigue and pain. At one point I was taking 68 pills a day all with side effects that ranged from nausea to more fatigue. I had to eat with every dose of pills. I couldn't exercise due to the pain and fatigue. I lost my job. I wasn't able to continue my education. I wasn't able to volunteer, shop, drive, etc. I wasn't even able to play with my kids. Life sucked. SO for 2009 I just accepted life as it was which was crappy. At the end of 2009, I felt comfortable enough to explain to my friends and family that I am not reliable and that I may cancel things and that I may need help. Once that happened I was able to start adjusting my medications so I wasn't taking as many. Before I got sick I wouldn't even take advil for a headache. I continued to go to the doctor. By 2010 I had cut my meds in half. By 2011 I had gotten 68 pills down to 10. This is when I went to Dr. Rothchild for bariatric surgery. I wanted my life back. I had a real hard time losing the 20lbs that was required for the surgery which I find funny that I had to lose. If I could lose 20lbs- then why would I need surgery. SO I went through the mental evaluation which is also funny in the sense they wanted to make sure I wouldn't kill myself if I lost the weight and I looked different- In my mind wasn't that what I wanted? To look different(better). I also had to go see a nutritionist. That was an awful experience- we were told to bring a support person, the class cost me 250 dollars, and then our support person couldn't even sit next to us, and then the class was several hours, and the biggest portion of the class was the nutritionist trying to sell us her vitamins, mixes, tablets, etc. So because of the time frame it took for me to lose the 20lbs I got the privilege of doing all of it again. Lucky for me Dr. Rothchilds office brought the nutritionist in house and it only cost me a hundred bucks. This time the class was actually VERY helpful. There was no buy my stuff, I got a great binder with helpful links and what to expect all spelled out for me. The nutritionist actually was awesome, very educated, and really got into the nitty gritty of what we needed to do from presurgery to post to at home. So on May 21st, I got the lapband put in. My surgery was at 7am I got to go home at 5pm. I live in the Springs and Dr. Rothchilds office is in Aurora- almost 2 hours away. The next day I felt like I had been shot all over my tummy and it looked like it too. I was severely bruised up from the IV (They couldn't find a vein that would work- It took 7 sticks in my hands and arms for them to get one to work) and the surgery. My chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia will affect my ability to exercise but today is 8 days since my surgery and I can already tell a difference. I am done 4lbs so far. I keep track of my food and liquid on myfitnesspal.com and that has really helped.
