I would love to find someone to walk with. I live between Lawrence and Bonner Springs, Kansas. I work in Kansas City, Kansas. I need the motivation! Interested?!?!
-
In the beginning my husband said ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! He did agree to go to a seminar with me for lapband. He had to work that day but he did go to my first consultation visit. The Dr was so nice and answered all his questions. After having EGD testing we found out I have a hiatal hernia and Barrett's esophagus! Now my only option is RNY. He is on board 100%! I was so worried. He now knows that I "need" this and it's not just a "want" situation.

I have the same issue. Started researching for the lapband. Went to a seminar and changed my mind to the sleeve. After the EGD results I found out that I have a hiatal hernia AND Barret's esophagus. "IF" the Barret's progresses later on they use the stomach to make repairs. With the sleeve surgery they remove the stomach portion. Now my option has moved to RNY! I was very upset in the beginning when I find out the results. I had never heard of a hiatal hernia or Barrett's esophagus! Now that I have researched all 3 surgeries I know this will be the better choice. I do feel like I'm having to start all over again but truly grateful for having the EGD and finding that I do have something wrong! It certainly explains a lot! I believe there is a reason for everything and I would have never went this route if it hadn't been for some wonderful people looking out for me!

That is too funny! Also a very big congrats to you! I can't wait to see how the surgery will go for me now...lol.
-
WOW!!! You look GREAT!!! I certainly hope I can see those kind of results!

I had an EGD test yesterday and found out that I have a hiatal hernia. Is this something that will need to be repaired BEFORE my sleeve surgery or do they repair it at the same time? I have read that some have the repair at the same time but they did not know there was a hernia before hand.

Recently dx with sleep apnea

My surgeon told me that she had a very close friend that died shortly after her surgery due to sleep apnea. She sees things in a whole different light since then. She almost cried telling me and my husband. She gave me the "I don't want to loose you too" talk. I could tell it was sincerely coming from the heart. Yes loosing the weight will probably take care of things in the long run but until then I will follow Dr's orders. -
Theme songs for your sleeve journey?

And the same to you too newlife!!!

No date yet. Dr wants to get all the test results together before we set a date. Should be able to next week.

They will repair the hernia during surgery. It's the only way to fix it. I don't have pain so I didn't know I had a hernia. I have major issues with acid reflux. After it's repaired there shouldn't be any more acid issues. All my other Dr wanted to do is have me take acid reducers. I have my stomach coming up in my chest cavity! No wonder pills aren't helping!
-
Funny thing is I've been battling the acid reflux for years and my regular Dr just told me to take acid reducers...which did not fix the problem! I can't wait to tell her how I fixed the problem lol!
-
Let me know how it goes for you! You will be glad you did it. I was shocked when my husband told me that I have a hiatal hernia! They didn't go in to find that but I'm glad they did find something. It certainly explains why I have acid reflux so bad! Can't wait to he able to eat food that doesn't talk back to me LOL!

I work in Kansas City, KS but live just outside Linwood, KS. I would love to find a walking/workout buddy! Anyone close?!?!
-
It's nothing to panic over! I had mine Tuesday and wish I had done it years ago! My husband said I was only out of my room 30 minutes tops! They put me to sleep and next thing I knew the nurse was talking to me back in my room! No pain...no soreness...no headache...NOTHING! From the time they took me back to do the actual test I was walking out of the building in an hour and a half! Piece of cake! No pun intended LOL!
-
I am sort of relieved to know the reason for my acid problems. Now to get it repaired so I don't have any more issues! Ive been worried all day wondering if I will end up having to have repairs done before sleeve surgery.
-
I thought the same thing when my husband told me what they found. Wish I could have had it done a long time ago!!!
-
That's what I was worried about too! Now that we know it must be fixed and I need to loose the weight all things will fall into place. Keeping fingers crossed!!!
-
I'm having my EGD test done today. Starting to get nervous. I've only been "the patient" in the hospital twice. That was when I had my kids! I've never been knocked out for any procedure! I know this will be a piece of cake compared to the actual surgery but it still makes me nervous. Hope I get good news! On that note...I've did the sleep study Friday, eval yesterday, EGD today...hopefully things will be submitted to insurance by the end of the week! Keeping my fingers crossed!!!
-
After my sleep study I came home and slept ALL MORNING!!! LOL!! I wish I had known about the EGD test years ago!! I would have done it and had all this behind me by now! I have also been taught that everything happens for a reason. Timing is everything and it must not have been my time yet. Cheer Mama you will be fine! I had no after effects. I felt great afterwards. I feel like the world has been lifted off my shoulders for some reason. I finally know that my acid reflux wasn't all in my head and there really is something wrong with me...well physically anyway hehe! I will be thinking about ya! Let me know how you do! Huge Hugs!!!

EGD went well! Just like you said...went to sleep very fast and was waking up 30 minutes later! No pain at all! They found a hernia that had been causing all my issues! Thank God they found something!
-
I hope things go that fast today! I was so exhausted from the sleep study! Didn't sleep well at all! Clearly not an accurate test! As far as the results go I haven't heard anything from that yet.
