    Counting weeks

Why 60 days? Are you on a mandatory plan of some sort? Has the request been sent to your insurance company and it could take as long as 60 days to hear back?

Not Sure if its the right move...

Hang in there! From what I've read it is extremely normal for many people to feel the way you do right now. Sending prayers your way from Fort Worth, TX! Meanwhile take one day, one sip of H2O/protein at a time and soon it will be next year and you'll be a healthier you! What specifically do you think is making you feel the way you do?

    2 weeks post op

Congratulations on your decision to change your life and that of your children . I haven't had surgery yet, but anticipate I will the end of August or first two weeks of September of this year. I'm 5'3" and 205 lbs. Your post was helpful to me. I am always relieved to hear that the surgery pain is tolerable during the first week. I can't imagine cooking during those first weeks though. The only positive is that you manage the menus and can slowly change the family's menu to mirror what you will eventually be eating (high Protein, low carb/fat). Maybe if you always stay focused on six months out, it will help during those rough times? Prayers headed your way from Fort Worth, TX!

    CPAP

I just had a sleep study last night. Having all of the wires and stuff on my face and head, etc. I can only imagine that I wouldn't sleep with a CPAP. Does it help at all to focus on the possibility of not having to use it the further your weight loss journey progresses? I'm sending prayers your way.

    HUNGRY

I understand how you are feeling although I have not been through what you've been asked to do. I read about an idea I am planning to do when I want to eat things I shouldn't eat and/or times I shouldn't. It's called a "tip jar." The goal is to place slips of paper inside the jar each suggesting activities that will redirect attention to a non-food activity. They could be things like walking outside and picking up 5 leaves, or go through your jewelry, or maybe calling a fun person that is due a visit? The goal is to quickly divert one's attention from food to an activity. You can do this - you are strong - your destiny is to be healthy. Breathe.

Prayers for your surgical team and for your speedy and perfect recovery!!!!
  9. I've had my psych, and physical evaluation and both were positive indicating I'd be a good candidate for gastric sleeve. I'm an ex lap band person, recently de-banded on 6/20/13. I'm working on my plan of care to accomplish sleeve surgery early to mid-September 2013. Today is 4th of July 2013. I sit here as the smells of brisket deliciously waft through the air, with my favorite red wine in a beautiful German crystal wine glass, listening to jazz. I wonder how I will redirect my bad habits post sleeve. I'm reading lots of self help books that talk about recognizing the triggers that would lead me to make bad choices. I'm wondering what will make me realize that I'm in an episode and be able to snap out of it, I.e., make a choice to redirect my attention to something else? For now, I'm looking forward to my adult children arriving so we can enjoy a wonderful meal together. . . What do you do? How does one train oneself to recognize bad behavior and redirect to something positive?

Lyndtt Hope you're well, and hanging in there! Wonderingif you received the sleep study results? We're at similar points in our journey as we seek a healthcare solution. I have a BMI of 35.6, hypertension and dyslipidemia (cholesterol) Sleep study scheduled on 7/13. I don't believe I have any sleeping disorders but based on some of my answers to the surgeon's questionnaire, a study was ordered.

  15. I think it is key to wear lose garments around the tummy area. I work in an office environment. My surgeon told me to plan for 14 days, but I have only allowed 7. I will wear lose garments like dresses and skirts when I return to work. So...lap band removal on 6/20 and back in the office on 6/27.

    Looking for something....

I'm 51 years old, female and happy with life, career and family. However, my weight has always been an area of my life that I struggle to manage. I've lost 80-100 lbs multiple times in my life. I'm currently 5'3" and 198 lbs. There are many doors that open up to us that enable us to improve our lives and contribute to the lives of others. I've had an opportunity to elect sleeve surgery and I'm going for it. I felt like a failure because I had the band in 2006 and went from 265 to 200 lbs, but never sustained an ideal weight. With my God's help I will accomplish the goal of being an ideal and healthy weight. When you're ready you will feel at peace with your decision. You will not feel the need to justify or even tell anyone that you had surgery. It is not the easy way out! I've done a lot of reading - you will still have to exercise and manage your food intake. What I'm looking forward to is the maintenance part of this as I see the sleeve as a tool for management of weight long term. I can lose weight all day long, but this tool is going to help me manage my weight long term. Be at peace....
  17. Tomorrow is your surgery! I'm happy for you and pray God's blessings over you and your surgical team. Everything will go well. I just had mine out on Thursday, 6/20. Advice from me . Limit your foods the day pre-op and keep them light. Keep walking post op. drink your h20. For intestinal gas drink hot herbal tea and heating pad. For intradominal gas - keep moving, walking. Let us know how you're doing.

closing in on 7 years post-op

September 2005 I had lapband surgery performed by Richard Carter in Arlington Tx. Great job, painless journey to approval and actual surgery was about 6 months. No complications. Height 5' 3", 265 lbs starting stats. April 2013 experiencing issues with the ability to swallow and reflux. Current weight is 197 lbs. my current physician is Sina Matin, Baylor Grapevine. First visit was on 5/14, with an upper GI done on 5/20 (with contrast and a tablet). The results show that the tablet got stuck and that the contrast remained in the esophagus. 5/24, doctor Matin communicated results of the MRI indicating that I have esophagus damage caused by the lapband. He asked me to come to the office on 5/29, for a complete emptying of my band. He has requested certification from insurance to remove the band due to complications and damage to my esophagus. He has recommended a revision to sleeve.

I'm fearful to be without my band.
