when is it time to see the plastic surgeon?
enjoythetime replied to staceyhearn79's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you're considering surgery to remove excess skin you should wait until you're within 20lbs of your goal weight. If you do it any sooner then you my not be satisfied with your results because if you lose 50lbs more or whatever the number is the likliness of excess skin redeveloping is high. Good Luck -

Yum valarie please dish out the 411 on the pinto bean chips. What are they called and where do you buy them;) -
I think the stats vary based on what kind of surgery you had. I had the lapband and consume approx. 1200 cal per day and between 60-90 grams of Protein. I don't really count my carbs much because I don't eat many.

Can Someone Help me with My Weight Ticker
enjoythetime replied to Mikee57's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I think this is a personal decision. I know what the charts say I should weigh based on my height but honestly if I weighed that I would look sick. I'm not built to weigh 125lbs:-) I really based my decision on a previous weight I had gotten down to and remembered what size I was and how great I felt so that's how I came up with my number. My surgeon even told me my goal weight was a personal decision and so whatever I felt good about to start with that and that I could always adjust it when I got there:-) -

Learned Something New...Now I have a question
enjoythetime posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, by reading through some of the posts, I heard several people say that their Dr.s told them NO DRINKING OUT OF STRAWS???? Can I ask why that is. I know my doctor told me it was a no no for the first 6 weeks but since then, I've been drinking out of a straw pretty much ALL day long. Can someone please tell me the explanation behind no straws. Thanks! -

You took that first leap of faith and you're on your way. It's not easy for ANYONE I don't give a damn who you are no one is perfect or if so we wouldn't be on here!

Learned Something New...Now I have a question
enjoythetime replied to enjoythetime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wheww Mikee57 you just made me feel soooo much better. I read where someone said that drinking from a straw can cause excess gas and band errosion. I'm not making the connection between using a blessed straw and band errosion:-) THANK YOU! -
No carbonation ever again?
enjoythetime replied to Loristi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
From what I read, I think perhaps the problem isn't truely not being able to have carbination but more of the mental thing in regards to the word NEVER, like a lose of control thing?? Never is such a negative word, however, there are some things we need to eliminate from our new way of life, so instead of thinking of it as never, or someone else controlling your lifestyle think of it as gaining control over not so great habits for a healthier new you:-) Alot of these things we struggle with are strictly mental no one likes to be told what we can and can't do, I mean afterall if is our life, so with that said you have to feel that YOU'RE the one who made the decision to NEVER have carbination again:-) -
Not Losing- 4 months Post op
enjoythetime replied to Cincha300's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yay! Glad to hear all went well at your appointment! I think one of the reasons someone recommended omitting the banana is because it's one of the higher calorie and carb fruits. I think everything in moderation, and it is fruit so maybe you don't have to completely omit it but maybe only have it 2-3 times per week and replace it with other fruit (s) throughout the rest of the week? Again congrats on your visit today!! -
How many times did you see your surgeon in total before surgery?
enjoythetime replied to NYCGIRL's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Are you lapband, sleeve or by-pass, I'm sure you will recieve different answers based on which procdure you're having. I saw my surgeon twice before surgery. Once during the consultation and again 1 week prior to the surgery. Congrats and best wishes on your upcoming surgery! -
I would start by discussing your travel plans with your doctor before your fill. I've flown several times with my band but not right after a fill. I didn't experience any issues. I talked with my surgeon and they recommended not eating or drinking anything an hour before or an hour after due to the changes in altitude. After my first flight once I found out how my band would react I did have something to drink on the plane. Have a fun time in Puerto Rico!!!

Congrats to moving on:-) You'll do just fine, remember to take it slooooow and to start paying attention to what your band and your body is telling you, watch for those soft and hard stop signals, anything that you notice to be reoccuring when you are eating this could be your soft stop like hiccups, burps, sneezing, nose running etc.. I didn't experience any problems during this stage. Refried Beans were my favorite, hit with a quick puree, I also would do cottage cheese (small curd), scrambled eggs etc. Steamed cauliflour with a wedge of laughing cow cheese pureed. Keep us posted on how you're doing!

I absolutely understand the stress of flying!!! I haven't made that big of a trip uet(8 hours) BUT when I have flown I haven't had any problems with my band. I talked with my surgeon before my first trip and they said if you can don't eat or drink much of anything about 1 hour before because the change in altitude could cause the band to get tight. They advised me to do the same thing, not to eat or drink anything for an hour after landing. She said some people experience this but not many but just to error on the side of caution since it was my first flight since surgery and from there I should be able to gauge how my body will handle it. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary and since then have flown 3 more times with no problems. I do hold off on drinking anything too close to take off but will have a drink on the plane and have been able to eat and drink fine afterwards. Again, evryone is difference and this is just my experience. Have a fun time on your trip!!!! You will do just fine!

Cauliflour, broccoli, I use on turkey rollups and am considering using it on chicken breasts like a marinade and baking. You could really have it with just about anything. -
Agree 100% with what you said. I do the same thing. I do eat taco shells but that isnt a trigger food for me but bread, pasta etc all is so i decided when i signed up for surgery those were gone!!!!!!

It depends on how many calories I have remaining but typically I will have 2 tacos in corn taco shells. The ones I buy have 35 cal ea.

Help! Six months post op and not losing weight!
enjoythetime replied to ToshaLarkins's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Here's what I do. This isn't to say that this what will work for everyone but it works for me: 1200 calories per day Multi Vitamins & Calcium supp 64-80 oz of Water aim for 80 60-80 or more grams of protein per day You should have 3-4 oz of protein per meal, 1/2 cup veggies & 1 starch (if you still have room). Always eat your protein first, then your veggies, then your starch. Hope this helps. -
