Well looks like i have a medium sized hiatal hernia...hmpf! Is this a reoccurring thing for lapbanders? My Dr says he wont put bands in people with reflux issues or hernias. I wonder if the band itself caused this? Any ideas? Find out Aug 18 at Dr visit whats to be done.

Tomorrow I have my band removed- I cant wait to put these issues behind me. At the same time its also bittersweet, I think Im gonna miss my old friend- lots of emotions.
-
Well its been almost 4 mos & Ive gained 25lbs. i want to eat everything in sight now. Still having a bit of spasming in my esophagus with escalates my anxiety. Wonder if I permanently damaged myself with the band, not a good feeling.

We'll I made it. I am awfully sore- my surgeon put a drain in my abdomen; I get that out today. Evidently my body was trying to consume my port because it was totally encapsulated which my surgeon said that was the reason for the pain, he took the chunk of scar tissue out with the port. Other than that, I am doing well but still on liquids until after my appt today.

Yes I feel like it was worth it, but I am actually looking forward to being & staying healthy after my removal. I miss those veggies I couldn't eat while banded. Did you know I haven't had a fast food hamburger since 2006? Lol

Anyone else have to do a strict pre-op diet? I can only have 600-800 cal a day, liquid protein drinks as meals, and as much as I want of sugar-free jello, drinks, and Popsicles. I have to have 80-120 gms of protein. I am supposed to do this for 2 weeks before surgery & I'm only on day 6 and have lost 7lbs! I am so ready for this band to come out...I'm tired of the pain & the stress of this slip and hiatal hernia....but I'm starving!!! ( Sorry for the rant, just had to get that out lol.

Yep I agree, wouldn't recommend it to anyone. My surgery to remove my band is bumped up to April 9th....I can't wait.

Forgot to add- its a contract occlusion & they wont cover anything having to do with bariatrics, whether its fixing, taking out, or putting a band in.
-
I have bc/bs ppo and they wouldnt cover a thing for my removal. I have to get a hardship loan from my 401K to cover the costs. Surgeon quoted me $2750.00 & hospital quoted $3500.00- surgery is may 14, hope i make it that long

Curious, anyone have a small slip which resolved itself after an unfill? I hope thats the case with me but im worried it wont fix itself. My Dr said i may even feel when it fixes itself. (Ouchy) he also said its about a 70% chance it will resolve itself. Any encouragement?

Well after a slip on mothers day, total unfill, numerous panic & anxiety attacks, a couple ER visits, and the discovery of a medium sized hiatal hernia, I've decided to have my band removed in Dec. i was banded Dec 2006 with the old 4cc band. Since my slip I've been taking 4 prilosec a day and been prescribed prozac to help control the anxiety. Even now with a complete unfill I am getting stuck on things like butternut squash. Every now and then I'll experience a nice esophageal spasm which leaves me with a golfball type feeling in my throat for the rest of the day. I'm tired of dealing with it- its been very emotionally draining. I am not able to get the correct amount of nutrients I need either, I've been put on iron pills as well. Its not worth it anymore to me. I will not have another WL surgery- I choose to rely on what I've learned in the past 7yrs. I miss being able to eat raw veggies like carrot sticks, celery, @ cauliflower. Sorry this is so long, its time I got this all out and of my chest.

No talk about the sleeve. I think with my history of acid reflux it wouldnt be such a good idea. Im to the point now where i just want this out and done with lol. Dont think i could deal with anything new right now lol

I go for a EDG Thursday next week. I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with spasms and the outcomes. Its scaring me to death and setting me up nicely for lovely anxiety attacks after. Im curious if people actually end up having their band taken out because of this.

Ok so I have a slipped band, total unfill, no nausea or vomiting, and a hiatal hernia. I am on 40mg of prilosec twice a day. My surgeon doesnt see any immediate reason to do surgery, but he mentioned he will remove my band if thats what I wanted. My problem is a constant "lump" feeling in my throat that is uncomfortable & driving me insane! My upper GI & EGD also show no immediate reason for surgery but Im going crazy because of this lump feeling. Im to the point of just asking for a removal. Any advice or experiences? I was banded Dec 2006 & have the old 4cc band.

I have an appt with my Dr on Monday to talk about the hernia repair. As far as needing surgery to repair the slip, my Dr said there was no urgent need, because I wasnt getting stuck & wasnt having nausea or vomiting. However, I have a feeling he will recommend a band removal due to me having the hiatal hernia, the old 4cc band(6.5yrs ago), & my gastro Dr finding some slight erosion in my stomach due to the acid reflux. -

I have a slipped band and am able to eat fine. The only problem i have now is that i have a hiatal hernia as well that is causing bad acid reflux & esphogael spasms -
To be honest, I think if my Dr recommends removal, Id be all for it. Its taken quite a toll on me emotionally. Not sure Id be ready to try a band again & wonder if Id slip again or have to repair the hernia again.

Sorry, i should have explained better. I had my lapband (old 4cc) put in 6 1/2 yrs ago, at the time I did not have a hiatal hernia. Fast forward to this May-diagnosed with a slip & complete unfill. I am still having issues/sharp pains, which are esophagael spasms. No urgent need to repair the slip, but Dr has a problem with the amount of reflux That showed up on my upper GI. Found out today during my EGD that the reason for the reflux was a hiatal hernia. Im only guessing my Dr will recommend a removal of my band.

Band Slipped - What Now?

EGD tomorrow to find out whats causing these spasms since my slip...scared -
Esophageal Spasms anyone ?
Annette_33815 replied to Annette_33815's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mine stem from a slip, but so far no urgent need for surgery according to my upper GI. I have the old 4cc band since 12/05/2006. I just started having the spasms since the slip & total unfill May 29th. Dr thinks acid reflux is at the root of my problem at the moment. -
Hi All, Last Sunday I experienced a sharp pain in my chest. I suspect its band related because I've been to the ER twice and EKGs are normal and I have no other symptoms of heart problems...vitals all great etc. I was originally banded 12/05/06 in NE. I moved to FL 3yrs ago and have had a terrible time finding a lapband DR that would take me, if they did it would cost $400 out of pocket, which I just don't have. I have, however, made an appt with my Dr that installed the lapband since I will be visiting NE on vacation. With all that said I have 10 more days to wait until I find out whats going on and this is driving me to anxiety/panic attacks. Has any vet had this issue before? It feels like short sharp pinching pains, shortly after I hear/feel a lot of gurling noises like I did after my band surgery. The nurse that scheduled my appt tried to reassure me that if I was not throwing up and not having problems getting food down then I will most likely be ok until the appointment. I have read up a bit on this and wonder if it could be gas related?? I recently have had issues with gas/bloating and have been put on a high fiber diet. Anyone else experience this? I have limited myself to very soft food and liquids until I know for sure. Sorry for the long post, but any input is welcome. Thanks, Annette

Barium Meal results & GERD - What does it mean?
Annette_33815 replied to SunshineGurl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Amazing, i just got the results from my upper GI and it says the same thing: intermittent gastroesophageal reflux without hiatal hernia. My Dr now has me on 40mg of prilosec for a month, then follow up. -
