I quit working out 6 months ago... about the time I hit my rock bottom in self esteem and accepted the fact I was going to be obese forever. Now that I have my band I am a lot more motivated in the gym because I feel like this time its actually going to work! At the same time I think it makes my scale not move much, but my body is changing so I know it works. Its just so hard when you are focused so much on the number on the scale. Anyone else feeling this way about using weights? On a happy note my husband hooked me up with a friend of his who is a personal trainer. I am super excited. This dude is HUGE and is a professional body builder. He is really soft spoken and nice though, so I think it will be good. He has all kinds of training and has another client who has lost 300 lbs with his lap band.

I wouldnt think this far out you would still have to be on liquids or mushies? Are you sure youre not too tight?? I think I would call my doctor, it has been almost two weeks since you had your fill.
  4. I must admit I am guilty of being one of those who gets on the scale every morning naked after I pee. Not a pretty sight I know, but its for me! I came across this article on yahoo and it seems weighing every day may not be all bad after all. So long as you realize your weight fluctuates! How Often Should You Weigh Yourself? If I asked my clients this question, I would likely get a wide range of answers, from daily weigh-ins to just about never. Research has shown that daily weighing is associated with a lower body weight, is helpful for those trying to lose weight, and is not linked to depression in women. Does this mean the answer is to weigh yourself every day? Maybe not. While there is positive research behind stepping onto the scale every day, I see the answer to this question as more of an individual thing. First, there are some medical conditions for which people may need to track their weight daily. For example, people with congestive heart failure may be asked to record their weight each day so they can immediately detect any Fluid increases. But unless a health care professional has told you to monitor your weight daily, you don't need to. The reason for this is that your weight can change every hour. Your weight may change because you drank and retained more fluids, you just ate a big meal, you are constipated, or, for women, you are premenstrual. The scale doesn't tell you if your weight change is from Water, fat, or muscle. So think of the scale as a tool to track weight changes over time, and don't be obsessed about any daily changes. Bottom line: It is important to check your weight. One to two times per week may give you a better picture of weight changes than does stepping onto the scale every day or, at the other extreme, only every other month.

    head hunger

I fight it by drinking a bunch of Water and finding something to do. If I just cannot get a craving out of my head after a few days I indulge, but only a bite or two... not the entire container or bowl I would have had before. I have some low sugar ice cream in my freezer for when I am craving dessert, the difference is two bites and I have satisfied my craving. Before I would have eaten a huge bowl.

    Were you intubated during surgery

I was, but wasnt aware of it because I was out before they put it in and asleep when they took it out. I dont think I would feel safe having any kind of surgery where I was completely put under without them already having my airway available?

Sandra congratts again on Onderland!! If I keep up my 2lbs a week rate I will reach Onderland right at Thanksgiving. I would reallllly like to get there faster but I would be so proud to be at 199 by then. What motivation not to eat the crap foods then too! Metal & Sue- I am so sorry you are sad about all the changes going on in your family. I know how it feels to miss your kids so badly. At least they are going off to school! You should be so proud of them This could just motivate you more to lose weight... see how different you can look by the holidays when you see your kids again. I am sure they will be in awe of their mother!

    Starbucks and lapbands!

I still enjoy Starbucks... my latest favorite is the sugar free vanilla frapaccino. I tell them to leave the whipped cream off and it still tastes delicous!

Do you use liquid Motrin (Ibuprofen)?

My surgeon told me I can take regular pills just to drink plenty with them and or warm liquid even. He said your still swallowing it into your stomach its not going to hurt anything. He bases this off the Australian Dr's who have been doing this much longer than us and with much fewer restrictions. I have only had to take some a few times and did not have any bad effects from it. He said it will not cause erosion. Each dr is different though, I cant stand liquid meds either.

Do I need to attend another seminar?

I never attended a seminar. I spoke with my surgeons staff and then made an appointment to meet the doctor. I had wanted this surgery for so long I had done plenty of research on my own. I would think if you tell them you have already been to two other seminars they would not make you sit through another one.

Melissa, Are you working out? They did say 1-2 lbs a week is what u should expect to be losing. Its nice to lose more but unless we get off our rear ends and do some serious work outs that probably wont happen. I did finally make it back to the gym tonight, I had been just riding my bike around a the neighborhood. I am hoping to motivate my scale too.

For those of us who weigh in daily!!

I got a new scale shortly after being banded because I wanted a digital, and I had to go back and adjust all of my weights!

    Pregnant? Fill Out???

What does your OB say? I would do what they say is best for the baby. And when you are pregnant if you dont eat right and get enough calories it will take it from your body somehow making you less healthy. Just forget about weight right now and do what is healthy for your baby and yourself. There is plenty of time to worry about your weight after the baby is here.

    PB etiquette

I usually have a bottle of water or a cup with something to drink in it. I have dumped the drink out and used the cup or water bottle in public when this has happened to me. I have really been trying to drink plenty of water and seem to always have a drink handy anyways.

Mini- Thanks for the article that was interesting. Twin Mom - Way to go on ebaying your clothes!!! I am going to give mine to my friend although we have different clothing styles so i dont know how much she will actually wear. I cant wait to get rid of them but am nervous about what kinds of clothes to buy for now. Many of my pants are getting too loose and while a belt will hold them up I will look very frumpy. I guess frumpy is better than fat any day though! Metal- congratts on the fill! Yes they are a lttle strange. I always think pulp fiction when I see the needle coming! I am a little jealous of all of you hitting 50 lbs! I dont think I would spend that much on a Coach purse if I won the lotto. I am planning a trip to NY where I am hoping to find something good on Canal St though My scale did move another lb today so I really cant complain. People are really starting to notice!

    How much??

My doctor is really laid back and very down to earth so when he explains things and then I come on here I kind of get confused a little. When I spoke with him about how much food I should eat he said: Dont worry about how much food you eat at a sitting, eat slowly, chew well, and just eat until you feel full and not a bite more. Which I must admit seems to be working pretty well for me. I have never eaten so much that I think I will get sick, or felt ill because of the volume. I was just wondering how much those of you who have been banded and had a few fills generally eat? My brain cannot comprehend what 4 oz of food is size wise.

    Anyone have Federal BC/BS

Which plan do you have that has a deductible? Or are you talking about the max out of pocket?

    Bad needle pain with fills?

I have had 3 fills and have not had ANY pain with them. The 1st one was the scariest because the needle looks so darn intimidating. I would rather get a fill than even have my finger pricked to be checked for Iron.

    Lunch Ideas

There are also some frozen dinners that arent too bad for you. I dont think I would want to eat one every day because of all the sodium, but on occasion its not bad. I take vegetable Soup, left over meat from dinner the night before, if you can tolerate it whole grain rice (microwave kind) and a little black Beans for flavor. You can also buy the pre-cooked chicken made for fajitas which you can throw into almost everything, it is microwaveable. Rolled up lunchmeat as mentioned above gets me full quickly. If you find something else that works for you share with us!

    Mornings?

I think most of us have a tighter band in the morning. I am not even interested in food in the morning, which is good because that means I get to drink a cup of coffee. I tend to get hungry around 10 or 11 so i bring oatmeal, or yogurt, or something tolerable to work for Breakfast. I take late lunches and sometimes cant eat all that much then either. I do eat something that is mostly protien at lunch because I know I wont be eating much and dont want to get to the "starving" point before I eat dinner. If I let it go that far I end up sliming A lot of people say if you will drink a warm beverage you should be able to eat breakfast.

Sheila, Is there another exercise you could do? Bike, swimming, treadmill (may be easier on your body). You say youre staying away from high fat and soft foods but are you eating high protien foods? It takes some people longer to get the scale moving. If its not moving you should try something different. If you always do the same you will get the same results. Maybe this fill will be enough to get things going!
