sleep deprived leads to hunger
joatsaint replied to Fiddleman's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I know that when I'm sleep deprived, I think about the small energy burst I get from eating a high carb goodie. It's a vicious circle, eat, feel better for a few hours, crash, eat again. -
It might be caffeine withdrawal. I know that Excedrin has caffeine in it. I can definitely tell by the headaches I get, I haven't had caffeine in a few days.

Disgusting Protein Shots Beware.
joatsaint replied to MsVictorious1020's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've still got one in the fridge that I bought back in Dec. I couldn't bring myself to try it. -
IMAGINE IF...WOULD YOU?
joatsaint replied to mysleevemylife's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Maybe they could give you a stomach transplant? Then you would find out too late that you had the stomach from a serial killer that died in the electric chair, vowing vengence on the world. And late at night your stomach would make you sleep walk to Taco Bell where you'd have 4th meal and kill all the workers and put their remains in the taco meat!!!!!!!!!!!!! See the movie - Taca Taca Taca Taco bHell - MUAHAHAHAHAHA -
What if they tell me im crazy?
joatsaint replied to EllaJo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If they say you're crazy, tell them, "You're just jealous cause the voices only talk to me!" -
Having you been looking at things differently since being sleeved?
joatsaint replied to buplee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have had the same thoughts, but it immediately dawned on me that I WAS that guy just a few months ago. So I try real hard not to judge anyone else since I don't know their situation or motivations. Why hate someone because of their eating habits, when I can focus my criticism on more meaningful things like race or nationality. -
Is Sleeving the easy way out?
joatsaint replied to bikermike5094's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had planned on starting my weight loss surgery program in November 2012 and having the surgery during my Christmas vacation weeks. I’d be sleeved and back at work. Then I’d astonishingly start losing weight, with on one being the wiser. But I chickened out before I made my 1st appointment. I am not the kind to do anything as permanent as having most of my stomach removed. Heck, I won’t even get a tattoo. My motto: Always have a way out, a backup plan, a way to undo things if it’s a mistake. But at the beginning of December, I reevaluated my situation and fell back on the tried and true questions that motivated me to get through sticky times in my career and college. Do you want to be in this same situation a year from now? Do you see things getting better without going through this? And the answer to both was a resounding, “NO!” -
Do You Drink Coffee, How Much Weight Have You Lost?
joatsaint replied to KhadijahRose's topic in Food and Nutrition
I think I started drinking coffee after the 1st month post-op. I don't really like coffee, but it does help me stay full and energized. I have felt sluggish and very low energy for years now. So I sometimes take caffeine pills, sometimes drink coffee. Coffee hasn't slowed down my weight loss. I tend not to eat as much when I drink it, so it's a trade off. I normally put 4 liquid creamers (I use liquid since it has no sugar) and 5 packs of Splenda in a 20oz glass. I'm down about 44lbs since surgery - 31/2 months ago. -
Oooooh, thanks for the reminder to visit your profile and update your star rating. I feel all Siskle and Ebert each time. Too bad there's no way to add comments. I would write, "Her character was spot on and realistic, but the lighting and camera angles really detracted from her performance."

I think it was the end of my 3rd week I tried some peanuts, only 5 or so. Chewed em up till they were paste, my stomach grumbled a little, but otherwise I was fine. I had tried creamy peanut butter beforehand and had no problems.

Irrational rage and irritation
joatsaint replied to EnigmaInKY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 1st week post surgery I was pissed at the world. I think it was from the surgery trauma. But I found that keying cars of idiot drivers mellows me out. -
Well, I ain't getting any younger and a guy has to compete to catch their eye! And before you ask about the hair dye, YES, the carpet matches the drapes. When there is carpet!

Please, feel free to be offended. You have the right to feel the way you want. And I have the right to not care. And as far as telling them you don't eat pig or are a vegetarian. Those things directly affect your interactions with anther person. WLS, unless you are in an emergency situation, will never casually come up. If you feel like you need forgiveness or permission for having WLS, that's your choice.

I totally agree and I don't see why anyone would consider bringing this up early when dating in the 1st place. It's only in the mind of the person as to whether or not WLS is a negative. And I don't see WLS as a negative any more than if I had a heart bypass to save my life. Having WLS is not a sign you are weak or broken. Instead it is a statement that you have taken charge of your life and did what you feel you needed to do. If you're on a date do you blurt out every thing you find a negative about yourself? Do you blurt out right away that you've had a boob job? Had corrective eye surgery? Had botox injections? Had lip injections? You're wearing makeup to make your skin look better? Wearing heels to make your legs and butt look better? Oh, and don't forget to tell them you dyed your hair too.

one month out.. questions
joatsaint replied to chantelleyxo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was pretty much eating ground chicken cooked in taco seasoning and refried beans after the 1st month. Currently I am eating ground turkey cooked in beef broth with pureed cauliflower. I put a pkg of brown gravy over it for flavor. -
Psych Evaluation
joatsaint replied to spiritstalker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was nervous too. The psy eval turned out to be a way to determine if I had realistic expectations about what I'd get out of the surgery. It was more boring than anything else. -
I am now a master farter!
joatsaint replied to AussieLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found that eating steamed cauliflower seems to add to the volume of gas I produce. You might want to consider adding it to your arsenal. Although it hasn't increased the aroma, it has made a considerable difference in volume! -
I am now a master farter!
joatsaint replied to AussieLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not alone. I am continually surprised and impressed with the quantity of gas I have coming out of me. Not during the day, but at 6am when I wake up. It sounds like frog mating season in my house each morning. But as far as you being the fart master, hmmm... I don't know. You must pass the test! Here, see this pebble? When you can fart and blow the pebble out of my hand before I close it and leave no skid marks - then and only then will you be the FART MASTER! -
Ways to make unjury chocolate taste better
joatsaint replied to Roserie's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I found that a scoop of ice cream does the trick. Seriously though, I had a bag of chocolate soy Meal Replacement and put 1 scoop into my EAS chocolate carb control shake. It made it thicker and more chocolaty. And added 11g of Protein and only 7 grams of carbs. -
Was it hard for you to
joatsaint replied to NewAshes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea, it seemed like a fantasy to me as well - pre-op. But after surgery, I no longer felt the constant nagging need to eat every few hours. And no where near the volume. I was a 6 slice pizza eater. Give me a large pizza and it'd take 6 slices to fill me up. Hamburgers, shoot, double meat w/cheese, large fries and drink would barely top me off. And I'd be ready for another round in about 2 hours. Now, 4 - 5oz of whatever and that's it. More than that and I'll feel like it's poking back up in my throat. AND I FEEL SATISFIED! And happy. No more food cravings for a specific flavor or hiding my food at work so people can't see how much I'm eating. -
Clear liquid & protein powders...
joatsaint replied to rebecca_dsu's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My doc said any Protein powder is okay during the 1st week an dlater. But he recommended that I stick with ones labelled "100% whey isolate" because that type of protein is more completely absorbed by the body. During the 2nd week, I started the EAS carb control shakes I can get at Walmart or Sam's Club. -
One of the best things I have bought are the Glad 4oz. plastic bowls from Wal-Mart. It doesn't help slow my eating but I know that I can safely eat a bowlful and not overeat. It also makes the amount of food look bigger. It also makes it easier to stop eating, since I have to get up and go get more and heat it up if I really want more. The other day I was extra hungry for some reason and I at 6 bowls over the course of the day. That night I was worried and thinking, "Oh my god! I ate so much today!" And then I realized, I use to eat more in one meal than I did for that entire day. It really put things into perspective.

Gastric Sleeve Surgery - What My Doc Told Me to Expect
joatsaint commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
I had my surgery in December, but I republish these articles to share my experiences. I've read several blogs on here that had great information, but they were published long before I found this board. If I hadn't stumbled across them, I would not have had a chance to read other people's experiences. If they had republished them, it would have benefited more people. -
Cannot believe it!
joatsaint replied to Carolina-Girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats, you're in the sweet spot right now. Seeing that scale go down makes me want to get up and move too. Keep pimpin that sleeve!
