I have no cravings post-op. I was amazed at the whole change in my thoughts about food. I still deal with wanting to eat when I'm bored, but it isn't a craving for any particular flavor. I can be just as satisfied with a boiled egg or my Beans and turkey meat combo as I would have been pre-op when I wanted a burger and fries. But you can eat sugar post-op. I don't think there is any food I can't eat - it did take months before my stomach stopped complaining about some foods like pineapple, but processed foods like Pasta and sugar went down with ease. So it's not that you can't have sugar, but that you will be eating so few calories that each food choice has to have as much nutrition in it as possible. And sugar is definitely an empty calorie.

When you where six weeks out what did you....
joatsaint replied to tampa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Six weeks out I was down about 50 lbs. I was only eating cream of mushroom Soup - about 3/4 can a day and drinking my Protein shakes. I wasn't able to tolerate any other foods except sugar free popsicles and sugar free jell-o. I could nibble on boiled eggs, but it was less than a teaspoon full every once in a while. I had a 1/2 cup container filled with my egg salad mix and it took about 2 days to get it all down. I was deliriously happy I was eating so little. -

VSGKirk, you are such a mantraitor! Hopping into bed with all those women! For Shame! -
I would try shutting down your browser and reopening it. That may solve the problem.

I think there are 2 ways to close the chat room. 1. look for the little square in the lower right had corner of the brower and click on it to hide the chat room or 2. with the chat window open, click on the little gear in the upper right hand corner, uncheck the "keep room open"

I didn't eat out till week 8 or 10, but I eat out every Sat night now. I can pretty much tolerate any food, so I allow myself Sat nights as my cheat meal, then go back to my normal diet the rest of the week.

Please give it to me straight...with no chaser...
joatsaint replied to A_ReNUDE_me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. It was the 1st week post op. I got the hiccups right before leaving the hosptial and stretched my stomach staples. I was hurting a lot for that week. I refused to take the liquid pain meds - they made me want to wretch. 2. Don't know. My only expectation was to lose weight... so far so good. 3. I would have asked him how much it was going to hurt right after surgery. And what pain meds he was going to use. And when he planned to sign me out of the hospital - my friend was coming to pick me up and it was a 2 hour one-way drive for him, so it would have been nice if he could have timed his arrival at the hospital instead of having to sit around for 4 hours waiting on my doc to arrive. Pretty much everything else, I already knew to expect. I had hung around this board for a few weeks prior to surgery and seen lots of posts from new sleevers. -
My current favorite is a boiled egg with salt and pepper.

If it helps you reach your weight loss goal and get healthier - you are not a failure. I don't consider myself a failure for choosing VSG over RNY - the whole reroute your intestines thing really creeped me out! :-P VSG is helping me accomplish my weight loss goals, so I'm definitely not a failure. You can still consider yourself part of the WLS group and on the losers bench. Just repeat our mantra, "One of us, One of us, One of us.... gooble gobble... gooble gobble." :-P

Hard time with weight loss on the weekend
joatsaint replied to O2BSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weigh daily??????????????....Hell, I'm hardcore, I weigh hourly!!!! Well, it's not really that often, but I do weigh 2 or more times a day. And as far as gaining weight on the weekends, I actually plan on it. I have my "eat anything I want" meal on Sat night and I'm usually 1 to 3 lbs heavier by Monday, but I know the extra salt will get flushed out of my system and the weight will be gone in a day or so and I'll start losing again - as long as I stick to my diet and walking plan. I'm 10 months out and my plan seems to work for me so I'm sticking to it. I believe part of the reason I gain weight on the weekends is that I don't drink coffee - a diuretic - on the weekends, plus I lose out on the energy from the caffeine. So my weekends are pretty sedentary. I go from walking 3 to 5 miles a day M-F to less than 1 mile a day over the weekend. So you might want to look at your activity levels. I'm sure during the week, your standing and walking at work - more than you might realize. It could be that little extra that is burning enough calories to cause your weight loss. -

How soon can I go back to work?
joatsaint replied to simplicity2007's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in a lot of pain the 1st 8 days. I started hiccuping the day after surgery and stretched my stomach staples. I tried to drink the pain meds and it was so discusting that I decided to live with the pain instead. For about the 1st week, I ate about one sugar free popscicle every 2 days and by day 10, I was up to drinking some broth and eating a little cream of mushroom soup. And things got better from there. -
