What was your first "real food" once your restrictions were lifted?
joatsaint replied to CrissyRing77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first real food was at a Mexican restaurant - beef fajitas and guacamole. But it wasn't much of either. I literally had about 5 tablespoons of food in total on my plate, but it was good. And Frankensleeve grumbled the whole time. :-P -
This is just a repost of info I did a few days ago. I checked this morning, the free Atkins bars and kit is still available online. Saw a commercial for a free Atkins starter kit that included 3 free Atkins bars. I signed up, they only wanted my name, email and address - no credit card or any other requirements. http://community.atkins.com/registration.aspx

Can't exercise, can you still succeed?
joatsaint replied to Scorpion11's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had severe pain in my feet, so right after surgery, I wasn't able to walk. But I did what I could at the time - which was a few laps around the inside of my workplace. And parking as far from the entrance to stores to force myself to walk a little more. I didn't do any continuous walking till about my 2nd month post-op - I was able to work my way up to 20 minutes of continuous walking each day. Now at 12 months post-op, I walk 4 to 5 miles a day, 4 to 5 days a week. I was able to easily lose weight without exercise for the 1st 6 months, but after that, my body adjusted to the lower caloric intake and it became more difficult. Here's the blog post where I tracked my walking progress. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/9018/entry-31216-nsv-2-you-best-step-off-b-hatch/ -

Free Atkins Bars While They Last
joatsaint replied to joatsaint's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
You're welcome. I was afraid there was a catch to the TV offer, but I was surprised how easy it was to get the free kit. And next I was afraid the the offer would be over by the time I posted the link. They do stipulate the offer is only good as long as supplies last. -

Never doing THAT again
joatsaint replied to GotItDoneInHarlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the "one bite too many" club. :-P I'm not only a member, but I bought the franchise rights in Texas! -
I mentally prepared for surgery by being in denial - really. :-P I pretended that nothing out of the ordinary was going to happen, it was just another ordinary day - right up to being wheeled into the OR. As I was laying on the gurney in the pre-op waiting area, I did allow myself to wonder how the nurses would react if I just got up off the gurney, put on my clothes, got back in the car and went home. Thoughts like that really helped me get through it. I didn't really experience any stomach pain or pain from the incisions, it was the pressure from the gas that hurt. It felt like an alien was trying to burst out of my chest - like in the movies, but it went away after a few hours. Getting up and walking ASAP is the best way to get rid of that pressure. I didn't want to, but everyone on the board said to do it. And it was true. You might like my video about my pre-op freakout.

I get tired of them too. I found that putting a scoop of a powdered chocolate protein mix in with a Premier Protein chocolate shake really thickens them up and makes it creamier. Toss in some ice cubes and it really tastes like thick creamy chocolate milk.

Summer squash is one of my favorite vegetables. My favorite way to prepare it is to slice it lengthwise or in rounds. I put the slices on a pizza pan and spray the squash with a little non-stick cooking oil and broil it in the oven 8 -10 minutes on each side, till it's nice and blackened.

I've never used any kind of calorie/fluid tracker, but Fitday seems to be the one I see mentioned time and time again. They offer free accounts - http://www.fitday.com/

Video Diary of my Sleeve Surgery and Weight Loss

Loved your videos, keep up the good work. I wish I had been able to vlog from day 1, but I was hurting too much for the 1st few weeks. Keep Pimpin' that Sleeve! -
I wasn't able to eat salad for the 1st six months, not because of any dieting restrictions, but because Frankensleeve would not tolerate anything that fibrous. When you do try lettuce again, be sure and eat only a small bite to see how your new tummy accepts it.

Add me to the "mad at the world" crowd! I was pissed at the world for the 1st week post-op. I was ready to fight anyone. The feeling went away at the end of the week. :-)

Quick FAQs (VSG) How Often Do You Weigh Post Weight Loss Surgery
joatsaint commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
I'm too paranoid about my weight to not weigh daily. I like to see if I'm on track and not letting old habits creep back in. Sometimes I feel like I've been eating way too much and checking the scale the next day really helps me know if I'm still on track. -
Quick FAQs (VSG) How Often Do You Weigh Post Weight Loss Surgery
joatsaint posted a blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
Weight loss surgery Frequently Asked Questions - How often do you weight yourself after weight loss surgery? It really depends on the person and how well they can handle seeing the scale going up and down. I am more *cough cough* obsessive about it than most people. I tend to weight myself when I first get up, then again after a poop, then after I pee, and then again after work or exercising. At 3 months, I was down about 45 lbs. I am a slow loser and averaged about 12 lbs/month for my 1st 10 months.
