Are you ready to have Weight Loss Surgery
joatsaint replied to Suzannesh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your post Suzannesh. I backed out of my 1st attempt at surgery, but I made up my mind a month later. I really had to commit to whatever I needed to do to be successful. It wasn't easy, and I can't say that I didn't bend the rules a little, but everything has gone well since surgery. -
Yes it is possible, one guy in my area made headlines after losing over 200 lbs. http://www.kfdm.com/shared/news/top-stories/stories/kfdm_not-so-big-rich-drops-200-pounds-2544.shtml

feel sluggish..anyone else
joatsaint replied to blackie220's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Applebtmgrl77 - I agree, after watching the movie "Super Size Me" I began to think the same way. There are 32 ingredients in a chicken McNugget. 32! They admitted that the more processed a food is, the lower the nutrition and it becomes less healthy to eat. I can only imagine what they do to the Big Macs to make'em taste so good. If you haven't heard about the movie, the star went on a 30 day diet, eating exclusively McDonalds' food for every meal. At the start, he went to 3 doctors for a baseline reading and their expectations of what would happen to him. They figured he'd gain weight and have higher cholesterol levels. But by the last week, they were telling him to stop eating fast food - it was destroying his body. Check out reviews, it was a great movie and will really open your eyes to the stuff they put into fast food. http://goo.gl/n8BPk -
Why all the different vitamins? Why not just take bariatric multivitamins?
joatsaint replied to caramelbaby10181's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Price, taste, personal preferences are all good reasons to use other Vitamins. I've never tried the Bariatric fusion chewables, but I've read enough posts to know that most chewable vitamins taste bad. I already had a big bottle of multivitamins before surgery, so I just bought some sub-lingual B12 complex and Calcium. -
Congrats, it always keeps me motivated when I see posts from successful long time sleevers.

Blow Is Just an Expression - CPAP and Sterilized Water
joatsaint commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
caspinelli712, I think I am on the verge of not needing my CPAP anymore. I've tried sleeping without it and I am sleeping longer without waking up. I probably need to lose anther 50 lbs before I can wean myself off of it. My sleep specialist said that apnea is common to people with short necks - she's seen skinny grandmas and football quarter backs that need the CPAP machine. I didn't need the thing when I was at 275, hopefully when I get back down there, I won't need it anymore. -
I was told I could eat anything I could run through a blender. The T-bone steak was crunchy and ruined my blender, but a guy's gotta have his steak! Seriously though, I was eating boiled eggs (sometimes in egg salad as well), yogurt, baked potato (just a little), blendered chicken breast, re-fried Beans and salsa, and bananas.

Eating before surgery
joatsaint replied to kimikat3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All I can give you is what happened in my situation. My friend asked me if I wanted to go out for one last big buffet blow out. I didn't go. Not because I wouldn't have loved to, but because I was tired of giving food so much power over my life. It's really a personal choice. Do you know that you can have one last feast and it won't trigger an eating binge and ruin your pre-op diet? I didn't want to take the chance. -
Mine was about the 3rd week. I didn't lose any more weight for about 5 days. Hit a 2nd wall on week 5, same thing. It takes me 4 - 6 days to start losing again. It helps speed up the process when I walk a little more than normal. You might want to consider your stall might be partially how much waste your body is holding onto. My bathroom visits are on an every other day basis. Sometimes I'll be over a pound lighter after a monster poop!

Yep, I got them too. I'm not sure when they stopped, but I blamed it on the hiatal hernia my doc repaired.

My 1st week post-op I was having a disturbing dream over and over. I was in a post-apocalyptic world, taking psych eval tests to determine if I would fit into a new group that was forming to rebuild society. And I had a very frustrating recurring dream about uploading video files to a website, but it was taking forever for the files to convert and upload! After thinking on it, I think it was my mind's way of dealing with the pain from surgery and the frustration of how long it was taking to recover.

What has been your worst calorie day?
joatsaint replied to NJSleeveboy's topic in Food and Nutrition
To be straight up with you, even at 7 weeks, I don't think I could take in 2000 calories - unless I ate really calorie dense food. I feel lucky that I really don't ever feel hungry or have cravings - as long as I stay away from things like rice, pasta, and peanut butter. Wishing you the best on your journey. -
Glad to hear you are in good spirits. It's nice when others notice. I get the occasional compliment at work and they encourage me when I'm seen getting my exercise, walking around the building. But it does kinda embarrass me, I'm not use to getting much attention and I prefer to stay invisible.
-
Congrats, I'm glad things are going well post-op. Take it easy and get up and walk as soon as you can and as much as you can. You might not feel like walking, but it will ease any gas pains and help prevent any blood clots in you legs.

My pet peeve word is "bro". It pisses me off to no end when some of these guys on other forums say, "Thanks bro," - usually it's posted after something free is given away. I ain't your bro. You don't even know me, so why are you treating me like you and I shared a foxhole in Vietnam?

Did your doctor approve of you eating anything but clear liquids so soon after surgery? I've only been on this board for 2 months, but I haven't heard of that before.
