I can only tell you, in my case, I was not supposed to eat anything other than Clear liquids for the 1st week. My staple line had barely begun to heal and any serious food like cheese would cause my stomach acids to irritate the staple line. Did your doctor's instructions for post-op clear you to eat anything other than clear liquids?

Should I be reading the after surgery posts?
joatsaint replied to LOVESAQHA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I prefer knowing as much as possible going in. I think I can make a better decision and be prepared for the situation. Otherwise my mind tends to run away with me. It's the unknown that causes me problems. In my case, the only staples are in my stomach - and those don't come out. I didn't have any stitches on my incisions - they were glued and I didn't have a drain tube. I guess it depends on which surgeon you use. -
ALMOST 10 MONTHS 107 LBS DOWN- PICS
joatsaint commented on LaBelle509's blog entry in LaBelle509's Blog
You're doing great! I hope I can say I've lost over 100 lbs at 10 months. Keep pimpin that sleeve! P.S. I was just thinking how we track time the way ladies track pregnancy. I'm 10 weeks, I'm 11 weeks,... :-) -
Not a sub, I was given a whole wheat bread sandwich at work about week 6 - roast beef, lettuce, tomato and mayo. My stomach did not like some part of it. After the 1st bite, my stomach was bubbling and cramping - not anything bad, just enough to make me stop eating.
-
I eat pureed cauliflower, instead of potatoes, but I wouldn't recommend it for at least 6 weeks post op. It is very fibrous and my stomach didn't really tolerate it until well until after week 6.

"Are you allowed to eat jelly doughnuts, Private Pyle?" "Sir, no sir!" "And why not, Private Pyle?" "Sir, because I'm too heavy, sir!" "Because you are a disgusting fatbody, Private Pyle!" "Private Joker, he's silly and he's ignorant, but he's got guts and guts is enough. Now you two ladies carry on!"

I'm calling mine Kane. Kane was a crewmen in the original Alien movie that had the chestburster popped out of his chest on the dinning table. I felt like something wanted to pop out of my chest right after surgery. -
Yep, I burped A LOT! The first week, I figured it was the residual gas coming out of me. But it also happens when I eat something my stomach doesn't get along with.

I tried that, but it felt like the the thong string was cutting me in two!

Post-op Phase 2 - Hesitancy
joatsaint replied to nursepez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was hesitant only because I was so happy with the steady weight loss on the liquid diet. I was afraid I would "break the spell" and stop losing weight if I started eating regular food again. And I was afraid my new stomach would stretch and hold more food, but it didn't happen. I still continue to lose weight. The good side to going to mushies, is that they stick with me. liquids don't, I almost immediately felt empty after drinking my meal. -
okay, NOW I'm panicking...

If that's your doctor, I think losing your passport is the Universe's way of telling you something! He' gonna make a man out of you! With just a step to the left. -
Most of the time, my stomach calls the waiter over and sends it back to the cook! Other times, it gurgles, causes little burps and sometimes makes me feel quezy.

Why yes, I WOULD like some cheese with my WHINE!
joatsaint replied to measureofme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't like whine with my cheese. I much prefer to eat my cheese in the Whaaaambulance! P.S. I finally lost .2 of a pound this morning - after 4 days of nothing! SOMEBODY DIAL 911!!!!!! -
The only cure is time and walking. I had gas pains for about 7 days post-op.
-
I didn't feel up to moving much until about week 4. My only exercise now is walking, trying to work up to 5 miles a day.

What kind of cup are you drinking from?
joatsaint replied to two_boysmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you're careful about the size of the sips your taking, I don't see why not. From the 1st day home, I've been using my Big Gulp mug, since it's insulated and I can keep my drink cold for hours. But I was very careful about the amount I was sipping each swallow. I threw up once in the hospital from drinking too much too fast, didn't want to do that again! -

Yea, I had a small panic attack pre-surgery, thinking about how I wouldn't be able to eat as much after surgery. And then I had to PIMP SLAP myself and realized how stupid I was thinking. I realized, "Limiting my eating was the whole point of having surgery!"

Cool, cause it don't get more stranger than me. Just ask the girls who've gotten restraining orders against me!
