Post Op Protein Shake and Calorie
joatsaint replied to Kristy Giovanelli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 1st week was Clear liquids like chicken broth, sugar free Jell-O and sugar free popsicles. 2nd week was full liquids, meaning only basic Protein drinks and creamy Soups and yogurt - no bananas or anything that had lumps or bits and pieces. 3 week was pureed foods. I wouldn't worry about the calories, it was a real effort just to eat anything the 1st week and by the 2nd week, I was only finishing 1/2 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup each day. But I was slowly able to each more each week. -
Ok, you got me and spoiled my fun. I was all prepared to call you a blasphemer and burn you as a witch!
-
1 week clear liquids, but I could have sugar free Jell-O and sugar free popsicles. 2nd week full liquids. 3rd week purees.

When you finally feel you might die....... time.
joatsaint replied to Recycled's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was at that same point in my life when I decided on surgery back in December. I even wanted a DNR on file in case something went wrong on the table. If it wasn't going to work, I didn't want to wake up. Good luck. This surgery is a life changer - for the better. It gave me the control over food I've never had. -
Seeing food you cant have
joatsaint replied to brandy88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear that. I am single and live alone, so I can't imagine what you're going through. Well, maybe a little. I still go to the buffets with a friend on the weekends. And if I find something that really tastes good, I miss being able to eat a whole lot of it. But I try to put a positive spin on it and think, "Ha ha, you can't make me over eat you!" -
Vitamins - Morning or Evening?
joatsaint replied to devichan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take my vitamins and B-12 in the mornings. If I take them after 4pm, I have a hard time falling asleep. I read that B-12 is best absorbed in liquid form, usually sub-lingual - hold it under your tongue. Swallowing B-12 destroys some of its benefits. -
Just ask them to have a Costco lunch. You know, where you go to Sam's club or Costco and eat all the free samples till you're full! Or you can beg off saying you were traumatized as a child after finding a paw in your happy meal!

Where does weight go?
joatsaint replied to BigDaddyJoe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like a bunch of big city talk mumbo jumbo to me. Back in reality land, we know where it goes. You slip the fat under your pillow and the fat fairy leaves you a dollar for each pound. I'm still waiting to get paid! So far that bi*ch owes me 70 bucks! -
Way to go. Keep pimpin that sleeve. P.S. Please post pictures of buns.

Confession Time: The Spaghetti Monster Almost Got ME!
joatsaint commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
Yep, I can eat bananas, but at the time I didn't know that I wanted a banana - till I walked past it. Then the banana threw a craving on me! I think it was a voodoo banana or something. P.S. I like bananas, but for some reason, they cause my stomach to grumble - not that it stops me from eating them. :-P -
Lying about Weight Loss Surgery !
joatsaint replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sure there is, you're on it. The sleeve isn't a weight loss diet. It's the cutting back on calories that causes the weight loss. If I could live on 600 calories a day, and not suffer the hunger pangs and mental cravings, I would have. And I probably could have lost 30 pounds the 1st month. It just wasn't a life style I could live with long term. -
Walking a lot....how much is a lot
joatsaint replied to caitiebug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was walking 2 to 3 laps around the hospital floor and my nurses seem happy with that. They marked me as "compliant" on my chart in the "walking" box. :-P Any more than 3 laps and I'd get nauseous and feel worse. -
100% Whey Protein - Unflavored - GNC
joatsaint replied to sailorbrees's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Trust me, it has a flavor! And I didn't like it. But when mixed with food, I don't notice it. I sometimes put 2 big scoops of whey protein isolate in with a can of refried beans and add that mixture to my taco chicken recipe. -
Lying about Weight Loss Surgery !
joatsaint replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't tell because I don't feel it's any of their business to know anything about my personal life. I think most people around me only want to know things about "how you're feeling" or "what the kids are up to" just to have something to talk about or gossip about later. However, if I hear someone talking about getting WLS and I think my experience will help them, privately, I pull them aside and let them know I've had it and that they can ask me anything that will help them decide if it's right for them. -

joatsaint replied to sailorbrees's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
No, I don't believe you are messing up your diet. He probably meant that it was for weight loss in the sense that it is a low carb food and wouldn't spike your blood sugar - as long as there's no added sugars in the Protein mix. If you are tracking your calories, then be sure to add the calories from the whey protein as well. -
That is so great! You deserve 2 snaps up in a Z formation - with sparkles! Keep pimpin that sleeve!

If you don't NEED the machine to sleep well, then you don't have to wear the mask. I got to the point where I was waking up dozens of times an hour because my throat would collapse and without the air pressure from the CPAP machine, I couldn't breathe in. So in my case, I can't sleep without it.
-
No, there's an app for that! LMFAO
-
I had to do it 2 times, once to diagnose my apnea, once to calibrate the cpap machine.

I believe I can safely say that every sleever has been where you are now. I can only tell you what worked for me. DENIAL - really - I didn't let myself believe it was really happening till I scooted across from the gurney to the operating table. The 2 hour ride to the hospital - DENIAL, I was just driving over to Houston. Waiting for 4 hours for surgery, DENIAL, I was just in a room watching TV with my friends, I just happen to have an IV in my arm. Them wheeling me into the OR, DENIAL, it was just a fun ride down the hall on a table - Wheeee!

And so the testing begins.....
joatsaint replied to abbygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it was more stressful when they put the IV in before the endoscopy. Most have trouble finding my veins and I have to get stuck several times. But there was nothing to the scoping. They said I might feel some burning in the IV site as they injected the anesthesia, I closed my eyes and opened them (I thought I had blinked!) and it was done. The staff was making fun of me cause I put the bite guard back in my mouth. I thought I had let it fall out before test had started. -

I don't know if it is a standard procedure for all docs, but there's nothing to it. They knock you out, run a Fiber optic camera into your stomach, take some embarrassing photos , and your done. It takes about 20 minutes and your throat might be a little scratchy. -
OMG...so many food commercials
joatsaint replied to Vicki0618's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use to see them too. But in the past few months, I've started watching DVDs of my favorite shows. -
Because beef jerky is meat minus the water content. So the protein is concentrated. The same way an ounce of raisins has more calories than an ounce of grapes.

Stalked Your Posts/Researched to No End! I'M DOING IT...3/29
joatsaint replied to prettynpink's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Cool, I've always wanted my own stalker! I'm tired of sharing the one I have with my brother. The best advice my parents ever gave me: Never talk to strangers, unless they offer you candy AND a ride.
