Hey Everyone! Just found out that my insurance covers all gastric restrictive procedures! Yayy! Also found out the doctor I selected is in my preferred network. I am scheduled to attend a seminar on June 3rd. I'm sure some of you have done a seminar. What kind of questions are appropriate for this forum?

BMI of 37.6 but no comorbidity

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and want to have the adjustable lap band procedure done. BMI is 37.6 based on height and weight, but do not suffer from the comorbidities they list on most of the websites i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions. I am 5'6" and weigh 232.8 lbs. Based off the "Ideal Body Weight" chart on the doctors website I've been considering, on the high end of the ideal weight I would be considered 89.9 lbs overweight. On the low end of the ideal weight, I would be considered 115.8 lbs. overweight. I have 2 degenerative disks in my lower spine that with the extra weight sometimes prevent me from walking. I have steroid shots in my back as needed for pain. I have severe knee pain as a result of arthritis. Also been told that I have borderline thyroid. Family history is both parents suffered from type 2 diabetes, both had kidney problems, and both had congenital heart failure and both died at age 65 of heart attacks. Do any doctors consider these other factors when determining a clients eligibility or is it strictly the BMI? Is there any way around not having the >40 BMI and no comorbidity? -
