Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
naenaern777 replied to *Dean*'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
@@katesuccess I can totally relate to everything you have said. I was working out 5-6 days a week already when I downloaded C25K app and at first I was doing the 3 days of the app and then going to the gym for 35-55 minutes on the elliptical and 1 hr of lifting on the same days and on alternate days 2 hrs at the gym. I was burning a ton of calories and hadn't lost a pound. Same as you I was going up and down a few pounds. I tried tweaking it to make it work and to be honest I still haven't figured it out. I have the band so I can have 1200 calories/day but I truly think it's not enough to make this whole thing work with all the exercise. So now I am running a 5k 5 days a week and only lifting at the gym 3 days and I still haven't lost pounds but have definitely toned and lost inches. It is super frustrating but I can say I have been running now 3 months and I can really see a difference. So don't give up just try to figure out what works best for you. There is a member named fiddleman he may be able to better help you he is extremely knowledgable in this area. Best of luck! Hang in there!!! -

Hey ladies just throwing in my two cents here... When I did c25K I did it every other day like Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-thursday-Saturday. I only did the 3 days every week for 8 weeks. I felt since I had never been a runner before I should take it in baby steps. This worked well for me. I hated it every time I did it until week 8 and I was just so proud that I discovered I do actually enjoy running. Wishing you both the best you got this!!!! Please remember though to stay hydrated I have run into mild dehydration a few times after a run. -
@@Mikee57 you are always on here offering kind words and advice to all of us. Girl you may stumble from time to time but you just get back up ,dust yourself off and go kick some butt!!!!! You do have a lot to be proud of and the numbers on the scale are such a very very small part of our whole picture. Our health , mobility, and overall happiness can't be weighed on your scale. You are gonna do this because CG showed you all about "want power" and I know you want it. Just know you are not alone in these setbacks it happens to all of us. But if we take a step back and reflect on how many things have truly improved or changed for the better it's all worth it!!! Stay strong you got this and you are my hero!!!

I ran my 5th 5K for the week this morning. As I was running I was thinking about how 3 months ago I didn't think I would get through day 1 of C25K. In still in awe at how far I've come in 11 months. The band has truly given me a life back. At the gym with hubby now to lift just gonna do legs and abs don't want to push it yet. Have a great weekend all!!!!!!!!!!

@@Bandista you totally got this!!! It's not a race you can walk at a pace that works for you. You have been working out and walking for a long time now. Your gonna rock it for sure!! And yes an outfit is a must!!!!!

I put the couch to 5K app on my phone and followed it for 8 weeks. It does intervals of walking/jogging. You can repeat the days or weeks if you need to. Best of luck to you!!!! -
Ran my 4th 5K run for the week. I have been doing 3 a week trying to up it a little since I'm flaring and having back spasms I can't lift so I will run and run and run lol
-
5K run this morning despite this dang flare. Mind over matter I guess.

Thank you so much Mikee57!!!!!!!!!!!!! @ you are my hero! I am so inspired by your strength and determination! I can only imagine how proud you must be! Way to go girl and a huge congrats on finishing and getting your medal!!! ???????????? do you think there are more spartan races in your future????
-
Well I don't know where to start... I finished the race and did it in 35 minutes which I a very proud of. That being said I think I chose the wrong race for my first 5k. First off I didn't realize it wasn't timed ok no biggie I used my nike shoe pod... Then there was the 65% of the people who came to Run or Dye and walked the entire thing. Now I figured there would be some walkers but at several points it was impossible to pass them and forced me to slow almost to a walk until I could get to a spot to pass. That's was super frustrating. I trained and I came to run today. Last and most frustrating was the fact that I didn't realize (not sure how) that tons of runners and volunteers would be launching the colored flour at multiple stations throughout the course. So after the very first flour launching I proceed to go into an asthma attack and the struggle began. I pushed myself and tried to cover my face with my shirt at the other 3 stations but this did not really help. I was wheezing and struggling for air for 3/4 of the run. I did not stop and I finished in good time but I thought I was gonna pass out right in my husbands arms. I had to be taken to the medics for oxygen. So needless to say this will be my last color type run. Still happy I committed , showed up, and finished despite the obstacles.

It's finally here my first 5K run today. I am super excited and still in shock that I am actually doing it. I am just coming out of a lupus flare that is causing severe back spasm. I rested it and treated it for a few days and woke up feeling much better today thank goodness!! I trained for 9 weeks and it would only be my luck to have a flare this week. But lupus doesn't get to win anymore I'm ready and I'm gonna go and do my best!!
