Psychiatric Evaluation done... Finally.
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to liveaboard15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know, thinking back to my lap band surgery, which was almost 9 years ago, I remember having to do that psych "test/questionaire" and the psychologist didn't really say much to me. I remember thinking it was just an opportunity to grab some cash from desperate wls patients, lol. -
Anyone have LapBand to DS revision?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to CandiceRW's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a lapband placed in 2013 and it was removed April 2021 due to GERD. I'm in the process of revising to RNY. My surgeon won't perform DS on anyone unless they have really bad diabetes. So it was never an option for me. I never made it to goal weight with the lap band. From what I've read, most don't. So I'm hoping to cure the GERD and lose a little more weight after RNY. Best wishes on your Lap band removal and DS surgeries! -
Psychiatric Evaluation done... Finally.
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to liveaboard15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
650 & 200 questions??? Jeez... I had my psych appointment last week and it was nothing like that. I filled out a couple of papers and talked to the psychologist for about 20 minutes, that was it. She said I'm good to go and she doesn't need to see me again. -
@lizonaplane & @catwoman Responded to most of your questions already so I will just add a comment to your question about absorbing vitamins. In bypass the malabsorption rate of everything you ingest both food and supplements is approximately 11%. So the reason we take vitamins is to supplement the vitamins and minerals that the bypass doesn't aborb. You don't have malabsorption with the sleeve. It's strictly a restrictive surgery whereas the bypass is both restrictive and malabsorptive. Hope this helps with your decision! Best wishes!

Keeping your shakes fresh
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Maybe try to put it into a chilled Yeti or Orca cup? It should stay cold for hours, if your shake was cold to begin with. -
Depression
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to msleo88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes in a "stall" the scale won't move but you're losing inches. You might want to take your measurements and measure weekly for a while to see if anything changes. -
How do you get your doctor to support revision?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to QueenWiki's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Talk to your doctor again and tell him/her about the GERD. Don't ignore the GERD as it can lead to Barrett's esophagus and possibly even esophageal cancer. -
Is anyone's spouse against WLS?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to MrsGreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe he's one of those spouses that the idea of their spouse actually losing weight makes them insecure. I've read that this happens for some couples. The spouse in question is afraid that if their spouse loses weight, it will change the dynamic of their marriage. If the spouse having WLS actually loses weight this time, they will gain confidence and will be noticed by others of the opposite sex, or even leave the marriage. So they're using the excuse that it's the easy way out in order to deflect from their own insecurities in the hopes it guilts you into not having the surgery. Again, I've never heard of this happening with anyone I've known, just read about it. But in the end you have to do what's best for you and your health, so maybe you just need to explain this to him that you're worried about where your health will be in 5, 10, 20 years if you don't get healthier now. Best wishes to you! -
Should I even try
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Jean123867's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
At 345 you would be a super high risk OB patient. You don't want that. It might put you on bed rest early in the pregnancy or preeclampsia. Or any other of the many possible complications. You want to be as close to a normal BMI as possible, to lessen complications to you and your baby. I agree with the others that said to wait. This is a conversation you should have with your surgeon. -
Anyone remember the chat room? does it still exist?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was hoping that Alex would bring back the chat rooms here, since it's an exclusive weight loss community, the chat rooms would be nice to chat in a group setting about topics specific to weight loss surgeries and topics important to this community. -

Alex - Bring back the chat rooms!
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Alex, is it possible to bring back the chat rooms from several years ago? The group chat was fabulous and a bit different than the forums. It's nice to have real time chats with groups of people. -

Fallen off the wagon at 3 months post op
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to ac0181's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with everyone who recommended seeing a therapist. So important. I'm not sure which surgery you had, but as you said you can only eat 3-4 ounces at a time. You're choosing to eat low nutrient foods that isn't going to give you the nutrients you need. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I'm thinking since you are already not taking your health seriously, you aren't taking your vitamins and supplements that your team has recommended. Malnourishment is a real issue with obese people. Because so many binge on fast food, and junk food, they aren't getting proper nourishment. Since we can only eat small amounts, it's vitally important to eat nutrient dense foods. A balanced diet. With wls surgery comes a certain responsibility for ones health, and when you dismiss what your surgeon has told you to do, there will be dire consequences to ones health. Are you tracking your protein? You're only 3 months out. If you're not getting your protein in, there can be hair loss. If you're anemic, you might require blood products. Not minding your calcium, you can encounter fractures. Sure you're losing weight now, it's a caloric game. You probably don't have true hunger due to only being 3 months post op, but you're feeding your head hunger. Seek counseling before your health is adversely affected. -
Acid Reflux
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Dcsjoc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's also silent reflux that causes little or no symptoms. I'm not sure if it occurs in WLS patients tho. I would say if there's a possibility that you do have gerd, you should get a hard confirmation before you do have weight loss surgery, as it may have an impact on your sleeve surgery in the future. -

I'm grateful for that it wasn't an option for you! Lap band was an epic failure. -
Acid Reflux
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Dcsjoc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's smart. I wish I had known about this possibility before chosing the lap band, because I wouldn't have chose it. I would've went with gastric bypass. It would've saved a lot of misery. -
Acid Reflux
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Dcsjoc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I haven't had the bypass yet, that's what I'm in the process of doing. Revising from lap band (it's removed) and now hopefully I will have the bypass in the next couple of months. We're hoping that it cures the acid issues. I'm hopeful! And thank you, catwoman!
