    Just had revision

Congrats on your revision and glad to read that you're recovering well! I'm waiting on my revision now. Band to bypass here too. Best wishes!

    psych eval

Psychologists test us to make sure we're mentally prepared to handle bariatric surgery emotionally and mentally. That's not necessary for hip surgery. Psych evaluations are tools that our surgeons use to identify those who may need counseling to work on an issue beforehand so that their weight loss surgeries are successful. It's a good thing! We all want to be successful with our surgeries, right?

    Mental & Behavioral Change

I'm sorry to read about your cancer diagnosis. And steroids suck! I was on them for 7 years, so I'm well versed in how they're both helpful, yet evil at the same time. I'm pre-op for bypass. I had my lap band removed about a year ago, so I can't advise you on anything about bypass post op. Hopefully some of the bypass veterans will comment. Best wishes on your revision!

    Any pre op smokers

I read that smoking after gastric bypass increases risk of stomach ulcers. Just some food for thought.

    How was your day?

I made a server/chat room on Discord if anyone is interested in chatting there. It will be invite only, so it would be exclusively bariatric patients. Let me know if y'all are interested in doing this.

    Introduction post

Welcome to the group, and best wishes on your upcoming surgery! Which surgery are you having? If you wouldn't mind filling out your surgery information on your profile, it will show up beside your posts in these threads and help the responders to familiarize themselves to which surgery you had and your other stats. Here's a thread that explains how to post that info. Thanks!

    psych eval

At least they gave you a snack. Unlike the psych eval. And you had to wait months, not hours.

    psych eval

It sounds like they need another psychologist in the office to make things move along faster. My psych eval was a waste of time, lol. I literally walked in and we talked a little about the surgery and what brought me to bariatric surgery to begin with and when she found out that it was all due to being on steroids for 7 years due to a disease that I have, she's like... yeah you're clear for surgery. It took 4 hours to do a nuclear stress test?? I hope your heart wasn't going bonkers for 4 hours. It was probably wondering why you decided to run the Boston Marathon. 😂

    Mad at myself

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I firmly believe that. I've had many hiccups in my bariatric journey and each time I make it through to the otherside and get back on track, I understand myself a little better, and each subsequent hiccup was easier to navigate for me. Because I understood how I responded. So I knew how to prevent beating myself up and how to get through the bump in the road. Beating yourself up only takes you further backwards and away from your goal. Most of my hiccups have been physical issues with injuries at the gym or flare ups of a chronic disease that decides to make life miserable sometimes. But it's the same concept... learn from this hiccup and be more prepared to deal with the next bump in the road. Because honey, life has a way of tossing them our way quite often. Don't be mad at yourself. Only be mad at yourself if you completely give up and throw in the towel. Which you haven't, so you're on the right path and in the right place... here on BP, where you have support from many others that have walked where you're walking now. Best wishes on your journey!

    psych eval

Wth!?!? That's crazy! I'm pretty much done and ready for my case to go before review with the team. After that's approved, I'll see the surgeon and get my surgery date. My first visit for the revision was about a month ago, lol.

    Stomach pain

I'd touch base with my surgeon. You've had a lot going on in your abdomen lately. They may want to order a CT scan to take a look at what's going on.

    psych eval

No problems at all for me. My psychologist is in the same practice/program as my surgeon, dietician, and exercise physiologist. Getting appointments is easy for me.

    Sleep study - CPAP machine

Oh and also... cpap compliance after surgery is important because sleep apnea if untreated can prevent weight loss. So make sure when you get your cpap you use it! Best wishes.

    Sleep study - CPAP machine

I doubt it would prevent you from having surgery. It's good for the doctors, and especially the ansesthesiologist (who is charge of your airway and oxygenation) to know prior to surgery about your diagnosis... so that they can take proper precautions prior and during surgery to keep you properly oxygenated.

    How was your day?

Yeah I'm hoping I will join that club after surgery too. I'm not sure how I'm a native Floridian and despise the heat and humidity.

I was outside for a bit today and it's already hotter than hades. Summer can skip me this year. 93F/34C 🔥

    My Surgery

    This is all overwhelming

Coop, this is a safe space! We're all in the same boat as you or were where you are now. Sure it's easier for some than others, but you can do this. We're here for you! We will help you as much as we can. That's what this community is all about, supporting each other. Sure eating after weight loss surgery is an adjustment, but you adjust. A lot of people say that your taste changes after surgery and you don't even enjoy the foods that you used to. As the weight starts coming off, and your clothes fit better, you realize that you've broke free from the grip that food had on you. I actually miss the restriction that my Lap Band gave me. I'm currently waiting for revision surgery. I had a Lap Band for about 8 years and had it removed last year and now almost ready to get a surgery date for gastric bypass. Best wishes to you Coop! You got this! 💪

    Brand new here

You can do this. Your frustration with your current situation will propel you forward! Your provider will take your medical history into account and suggest which surgery is best for you, or they might tell you any of them will work for you and let you choose. So for now just familiarize yourself with the surgeries available. Whether or not weight loss surgery is more invasive than a hip transplant? I can't really say. I think most weight loss surgery nowadays are done robotically, so the recovery is easier because robotic surgery is more precise and there's less tissue disturbed, unlike open surgeries. Along with TAP blocks and other modern techniques, pain is much better managed now than probably even ten years ago. And yes, I think all of us on this site can relate to you, it's the same reason we all began our journeys. Best wishes to you!

    Milestones!

I too have RA, and was once where you are now. Years of prednisone and inability to ambulate led me to wls. I'm off of the prednisone now, and doing much better. So there's hope for you too! I was on prednisone several years ago, but now my Rheumy tells me that if a patient has to take long term steroids many times they also put the patient on a GLP 1 agonist. It helps to reduce appetite (we all know what prednisone does to your appetite) and sort of prevent the higher blood sugars that prednisone is prone to. If you're not on a GLP 1 agonist, perhaps you can talk to your doctors about the potential benefits of adding one, if it applies to your medical needs. I hope this helps, and sending big hugs to you. Because I know exactly how you feel. Best wishes on your wls journey! 🤗
