Hi! I have had an issue with weight since I was 10 years old. Up and down, mostly up--all my life. As an adult, I often hovered in the 180-210 lb range. I had 2 children and then divorced. While a single mom, I spent about 8 years "lean" and my "perfect size" by eating almost nothing and exercising like a maniac daily. During those years, I loved the way I felt and looked, but I hated the fact that food was still controlling my life.

I avoided food and anything to do with food. The problem was, once I began to eat, I wanted to eat until completely satisfied, and that was just too many calories for my body. I did not attend holiday dinners with family, much less ever went out to dinner with family or friends and would not bring any food into my house for myself--only for my children. It was an awful way to live.

Ten years ago I re-married and my husband insisted that I eat "meals". This was very frightening to me, as I knew that I would likely begin to gain weight. I had lived and maintained my "perfect weight" essentially by eating dry cereal throughout the day and drinking protein drinks. I could not even tell you how long I had gone without eating a a true "meal".

Well, 10 years later after my re-marriage and eating "meals" again, I had gained 10 or 15 pound every year until I had reached the highest weight of my life. I got on the scale that said I weighed 240 lbs after seeing photos of myself taken at a family event and could not believe that I was so big. The photos along with the scale alarmed me so much that I decided it was time to do something drastic. Tired of being on the roller-coaster of struggling to lose, only to gain it back and then some--I decided the gastric band was the tool that I needed to lose weight and keep it off for life.

I had the surgery on June 20th, 2013. That was one week ago. I have already lost 10 lbs and don't yet feel hungry. I was very nervous about having the surgery and had all sorts of thoughts running through my mind about whether I should do it or not right up until the moment they placed me on the operating table. But then the next thing I knew, I woke up in recovery. The Dr. said the surgery went very smoothly, only took 25 minutes--and I haven't looked back. I am THRILLED that I went through with it and look forward to being a much healthier and happier me with the help of my new band. :) That MY STORY!
