txgal1961 reacted to Medikdave in Swimmers? Im nervous...
My doctor said 4 weeks for a private pool, 6 weeks for a public pool. I have internal sutures with surgical glue on the skin incisions. I don't know if the rules are different for incisions with external sutures.

txgal1961 reacted to dee21 in Swimmers? Im nervous...
I'm 14 days post-op. and I called my Dr today re: swimming. They said I can go in as long as all my incisions are closed and I don't have any signs of infection at the incision sites. I can't exercise but I can take a dip! :-) its 105 her in CA and a dip
sounds so refreshing!!

The question should be would you rather a tough month of your life or having a tough time due to obesity for the rest of your life?
When in doubt.. Change perspective!

some drs say yes and some say no
and as you can see, people tend to do whatever they want to anyhow
i say do whatever your dr tells/advises you to do
my dr told me no (same with straws) and i chose to adhere to what they said/advised me to do. so far so good....i havent had a soda or used a straw since i started pre op....nothing missed...

I was told using a straw is up to me but that it can cause us to swallow more air. As far as restaurant glasses, I am grossed out too but I stick to the not drinking during meals so I don't have to worry about that.

as my friend mrsinto said, you will get many opinions
the one that matters is what YOUR doctor advises of you
so call and ask your doctor and get the correct opinion
on straws, gum etc directly from them so there is no doubt.
btw, my dr said no straws either so i adhere to that rule.
otherwise, whatever works for you.

I asked when I went to get my first fill (6/12/13) and was told "never again".
From what I have read on this board some dr's say it is ok so you might have to ask yours when you go for follow up visit.

Down 70 pounds so far...has been a big learning experience. I feel great so far and am adjusting to all the compliments I get. It is so wonderful to be able to pull something out of the closet I thought I would never wear and it fits easily! 50 more pounds to go!

txgal1961 got a reaction from ☠carolinagirl☠ in Question about exercise
My surgery was 5/15 and I had my first fill on 6/12 and not scheduled till 7/3 for my second fill. I was told no core exercises for 60 days after surgery. I do walk, work my arms and inner/outer thighs for toning. No weights at this time but maybe I will be allowed very soon

txgal1961 reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Tiny Dishes, Scales, and Portion Control
I've been banded 17 months and I still measure my food. My family teases me, asking if I'll measure it forever, I just laugh and say "probably!"
I never eat more than a cup of food per meal. So, I use measuring cups when I can. For things like meat I use a food scale.
Zip Lock makes small storage containers with a 1 cup mark right on the side. I use these a lot because then I can just grab my pre-measured meal from the fridge and go.
