I am 61 years old and 4 days post-op and am still on liquids. However, I cannot swallow even a sip of water without severe spasms in my chest area. A lot of burping also occurs. It is very painful and because of it, I am not drinking anything nor am I able to take any of my medications. It doesn't matter if the liquid is warm, cold or room temperature. It still causes the same spasms. In the hospital the doctor told me it would get better but so far, that isn't happening and I'm worried about getting dehydrated.The doctor said I had a significant amount of fat around the upper portion of my stomach and they had to wrap the band around it. I'm beginning to wonder if that has anything to do with it. I have a follow-up appointment in 2 days but not sure I can continue to go without any fluids or nourishment that much longer. Any thoughts?
