Your PCP doesn't sound very supportive, they sound like a total ignoramus! If you aren't able to get their support you really should find someone who will! Good Luck! -

Constant Burping
DMJ 0340 replied to juliecatherine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been banded since beginning of May and still burp all the time......when I wake up in the am, at the gym, before eating, after eating, etc... -
My port had flipped some time after my surgery and when I went in for my first fill my Dr couldn't put saline in as the correct side was facing down. I had to have another surgery to correct it. It has been almost three weeks and am looking forward to my next fill. My Dr. Said it was the first time he had seen that. I think it happened when I was walking my dog on leash and she took off after something- pulling me along. My Dr thought it could have been caused from working out. Good luck to you! The port surgery was much easier!

Make sure you are walking, it helps with the gas pains from the surgery!

I have used the unjury protein powder which I order on line, quick delivery, and taste is decent. They have several flavors. Protein shakes are key to success!

I feel the band in the mornings. It feels tight, drinking hot tea helps! There is a bit of pressure I feel from the band- its not painful, just there. Good luck in your journey! -

Discomfort shouldn't last too long, make sure you do as much walking as possible, as it will help with the gas that makes you feel the discomfort. Also I would encourage you to sip water and your protein drinks constantly to stay hydrated. I must admit I took 2 weeks off of work as I tired easily after surgery. Good luck, stay hydrated! -
I was scheduled to have my first fill this morning. After about 20 minutes of the dr. poking around and hitting nothing but metal, he decided I really needed to have some x-rays to see if my port had turned. After numerous x-rays it was determined that my port had indeed flipped. My Dr. Says that he will need to go back in and fix it. Has this happened to anyone else and if so how was the surgery (I am assuming much easier than initial surgery). It's not clear how port flipped, the dr. Thinks my workout may have been a factor- I am a little bummed, it has been over a month and was looking forward to fill!

I say walk everyday if you want, I don't think it will hurt you!

I just made this flavorful dish that is vegetarian but very delicious! You need: 2 tbs of Olive Oil, 4 cloves of garlic-thinly sliced, 2 tsp of grated ginger, 1 tsp seeded, coarsely chopped Habanero chili (which I found at chain grocery store), 1 tsp ground cumin, 1 cup chopped onion, 4 cups chopped Yam, 3 cups cauliflower florets, 28- ounce can diced tomatoes, 2 cups cooked black Beans, 1/2 cup Water, pinch saffron (boy that's expensive!), 1 cup chopped cilantro, 1 tsp of sea salt, or to taste. 1. Heat oil in 6 qt. stockpot over med heat. Add garlic, ginger, habanero, and cumin. Sauté until fragrant (about 2 min. 2. Add the onions, yams, cauliflower, tomatoes, beans, water, and saffron. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cover (should be simmering), stirring occasionally, for 20-30 min. 3. Add the Cilantro and salt- adjust seasoning- let simmer for 5 more min. Although it suggests to serve with rice- I had to pass. Another option could be flatbread. It had nice heat- not a summer dish but its been chilly here in New England!

Banded 5/13 - help!
DMJ 0340 replied to lologard44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded in early May as well and am on soft foods. I've lost 8 pounds since May 2 (surgery date) and began working out again a week and a half ago. The last two weeks I haven't lost any weight. I started tracking my food on My Fitness Pal as others have suggested to keep focused. I think it is fair to say that our body needs time to adjust. I don't go in for my first fill for a couple weeks. Good luck! -

I was banded on May 2, 2013! Prior to banding I would get up around 5:00 and go to the gym before work. Now my mornings are slow and I don't have the energy to go to the gym first thing. I hope that that will change as I progress to soft foods. Right now I walk mid morning (I haven't returned to wrk yet) a couple of miles. Working out puts my head in a great space! I wish I had some energy!
