How long for the compression garment?
lapitup replied to Sue Magoo's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had a panniculectomy on 4-13-09. I'm still wearing mine 2 months later. It feels better with it on and makes me look much better too. I still have the extra fat and skin above my pannus scar - so it is holds all of that in! I'll have to wean off of it! HA -
I want to purchase either a treadmill or eliptical. I am a little over half way to goal. I've lost 70+pounds, but want to loose about 50 more. I carry most of my weight on my bottom half. I started going to Water aerobics about a month ago. I do that twice a week, but need to "up" my exercise. Need some motivation too! What do you think would be better for me? Treadmill? Eliptical? Thanks

Need Help. Panniculectomy in 11 days...now not sure!
lapitup posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am all scheduled to have a robotic assisted hysterectomy, appendectomy and since I'm under - having a panniculectomy. The surgery is going to be performed by a gynocologist oncologist (he specializes in the robotic assisted). I am currently 208 lbs. My personal goal is 160lbs. I went and saw my band surgeon today (to get all my restriction removed . He is adamant that I not get the panniculectomy. He thinks that I should wait until goal and also I should go to a plastic surgeon. The surgeon performing my surgies has done about 100 panniculectomies. (BTW, he is going to do it without charging me). I may have to pay some OR, anesthsia fees, supplies, etc. Now I'm torn. It is hard to look at it objectively because I really want to have it done. I have had A LOT of rashes and skin infections and it gets in the way of exercise. I had the pannus treated with various trx since Jan 2008. Just finished oral steriods. Soooo.....some advice from all you experienced banders out there! :smile2: -
I am having "only" a panniculectomy on Monday, April 13th along with a hysterectomy. I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm a bit worried about the amount of pain - but very excited at what the end results will be.

Getting a "complimentary" panniculectomy with a hsyterectomy
lapitup posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy on April 13th. I spoke with the surgeon about a penniculectomy and he said he has done quite a few and said he would do one on me even though I'm not at goal (about 50 more pounds to do) and would "just not get reimbursed for it". He said cost was not even an issue. He is willing to do it without getting paid. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I also have a call into the hospital. The doc may be willing to accept $0 for the penniculectomy, but the hospital, anesthesiologst, etc. may not be so generous! :frown: -
I'm having a real rough time with hair loss. Especially on top (crown). I have to do the "comb over" to cover it up. I am a red head with really long thick hair (not any more). I am about 15 months out from surgery. I take vitamins and drink whey protein everyday. I'm getting about 70+ grams of protein a day. I have never heard of the shampoo. Where do you get it? I hope I am at a turning point and will get some hair growth soon!

Has anyone gone through a change which includes their past love of food before WLS to transfer of those addictions to other things? Such as alcohol, drugs, sex, exercise (I wish)? I am really going through a strange mental change. Now that I'm getting "noticed" and more attention, I have found myself obsessed with the "chase" of male attention. And an increase is sexual encounters that I would have never done before (unhealthy, unsafe, etc.). I'm in therapy. The therapist said that bariatric patients can have this happen. Anyone else out there?

Great comments. I really appreciate it. How do you suggest I get addicted to exercise?

Where are all the Michigan people at??
lapitup replied to Cinnaberry's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I followed the program through Sparrow Weight Management with Dr. Yenemula at MSU Dept of surgery doing my band almost a year ago. I have been slow to lose. I'm at about 55 pounds now. My experience was pretty positive. Other women in my group (had surgery the same week) have had some complications. -

I've lost 22.5 - 3 weeks post op (including pre-op diet)

I am 3 weeks post op (Sept 27) I have this burping feeling up from my diaphram (not in my throat like in the past). I makes loud noise and I can't seem to control the sound (it can be embarrassing). Kind of like when your stomach growls, but louder than that. It definitely is on a daily basis, especially after I eat and drink. So far I don't have any restriction (which is scary). My first fill is 10/31.

My surgery has been scheduled for Thursday, 9-27-07. Lapband and hiatal hernia repair. I'm so excited. This Thursday 8-30-07 will be my last day on "food" for quite a while. Optifast for 4 week pre-op. YUM!:cry

Congratulations Sharon on your upcoming date. I just received my date of September 27th! YEAH. I'm so excited. No nerves....yet! ~Carolyn

I recently went for an Endoscopy as part of the pre-op testing. The test showed I had a hernia. The surgeon told my MSO that he would rather I have the gastric bypass surgery instead of the band because of the hernia repair. Anyone ever experience this or hear of it? I have an appointment with the surgeon on 8-20-07 and hope to ask some questions then. (I was out of it when he talked to my fiance). I'm really bummed and want the band not GBS. So I'm hopeful.
