I have to do two weeks, I am one week in and I can tell you the first 3-4 days are hell, I didn't think I could do it. I'm finishing day six and the last 2-3 days haven't been that bad. The broth, sf Jello and popsicles help. Also, if you have a Kroger, they have sugar free jello squares. I find them good for when I go to the fridge for a snack. You CAN do this and don't let anyone get into your head and tell you that because you cant do this or because you struggle with it you cant be successful! That's bull! Someone told me I should reconsider because I found this so hard. In my opinion if you don't find this hard you don't need the band in the first place. Good luck, you will be fine! When you need food, find something else to do, walk, clean, sleep! Good luck!

So my surgeon has me on a pre-op liquid diet. I've noticed that many people are put on a no carb diet before their surgery. I'm following the diet all day with a shake for breakfast and lunch and three liters of water, but instead of a shake for dinner I've been having a packet of salmon (putting lime and salt on it) and sliced tomato's. Question 1: Is this going to keep me from having surgery? I don't want to sabotage myself but I am not a sweet eater and these shakes are killing me. They aren't bad in taste I just don't like sweets, if they made one that was turkey and gravy flavored I'd be set! For the know it all's, I know why I have to do the diet, I know it shrinks my liver and I know it's tough. However, I've also noticed that many people that have a low carb/no carb pre op diet so I don't see how this is going to keep me from having surgery. Just in case, weigh in with your opinion, please. Question 2: Is there a "too much" with the sugar free jello, sf popsicles, and chicken broth? I'm only having a cup of the broth a day 1-2 of the jello cups and rarely a popsicle. I'm just trying to gage how I'm doing in comparison to some of you that have done this already. I know that in last three days I am to have nothing but the shakes and water and I am totally preparing for that but up until then Im sticking to this to the best of my ability and hopefully not sabotaging myself in the process. Thanks to all!

I can't take it any more!
Gizenhoffer replied to indenial's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband was doing the same. Then I started leaving the room when he'd eat and he seriously would ask me, "Why?" he, and the kids, are now eating the kitchen and staying far away from me with food. They want this for me and it shows. Maybe he just needs to know how hard it is for you? -

Thank you, this was helpful. I cant believe you didn't have a pre-op diet, you are one lucky girl. I'm tempted to look up your doctor and switch, LOL! I don't want to buy anything else because I've literally bought all of my shakes for the next two weeks. However I will look into adding the protein power. Thank you! -

The diet your doctor gave you is exactly what I am doing now. This made me feel much better, thank you! -
2-Week Pre-Op Liquid Diet? BRING IT ON!
Gizenhoffer replied to HelloGoodbye's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find having the shake in a bowl and "drinking" it with a spoon really helps! It slows me down and I get two bowls out of one shake. It tricks my mind into thinking I'm eating cereal. -
Okay, so today was day one of the fourteen day diet. I made it through the morning and the entire afternoon, with no problems and I made it through grocery shopping with some support....then came dinner. How am I going to do this with four teenagers and a husband that is skinny as a rail and they all eat what they want...right in front of me?! I ate two pieces of pizza...the whole time I'm telling myself, you really want this surgery, you need this, stop it...kept on going. I'm apparently going to have to lock myself in the attic when I get home or move out for the next 13 days. I'm going to bed, tomorrow is a new day and I'm banning anyone from having pizza in the house. Any ideas for ways to fight the food monster are greatly appreciated.

The EGD is super easy, they wheel you back and place a guide for the camera in your mouth. Its like a plastic square with a hole in the middle, the next thing you know you're waking up. The anesthesia isn't bad either, wears off quickly and I had no problems with being loopy or crazy. In my opinion it was a nice nap!!

I am so fed up...
Gizenhoffer replied to PrettyThick1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two and a half years ago I was denied, then I reapplied and was approved in 24 hours. Who knows what they are doing? Just hang in there! It will happen. -
OMG I am so feeling this right now!

Well tonight was better, I ate a black olive and one nacho. Someone suggested replacing the shake with three eggs scrambled and that really helped. Part of the problem is that I am not a sweet eater. I hate them actually, so taking away my salty goodness is killing me! When I got home today I had some brothe and that really helped. Thanks for all the support, I'm hoping this is just a process and tomorrow I wont snack at all! I keep reminding myself why I am doing it but I cease to care when the food is in my mouth. It's hard to change 30 years worth of bad eating habits in 48 hours. I am trying and I can do this, I will not give up!

Cooking isnt' the problem, the liquid diet is the problem. Im on liquids their on solids and I'm not cooking at all, not touching the kitchen. However, I find myself in there a lot....for the wrong reason. My problem isn't hunger is addiction.

So, I have surgery in about three weeks. I'm petrified of the diet, but I know that it's worth it, and I am hard worker so I'm not afraid of that and I am mildly excited about my future. My problem is that I have been the "fat girl" my entire life. Elementary school, middle school, HS, college...etc. I feel like a part of who I am is tied to my weight and without that I don't really know who I am. Does anyone else have this problem? I've never been uncomfortable in my skin, I'm not self-conscious and I have no problem being fat. My husband says it's my best quality, I don't care, I don't complain, I don't make excuses and most of all I don't limit myself because of my weight. I love me, my body and my life! My problem is that I am sick, I have diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea...blah, blah, blah. That is why I am getting the surgery, and frankly it's the only reason I am getting it. I don't want to be a skinny girl, I don't covet the super model physique, frankly it scares me a little...to be skinny with my personality is a dangerous combination. I just want to be healthy...and fat. Is this weird? Am I crazy? I don't want to do this and be miserable, but I don't want to not do this and die either. I'm doing it, that has been decided, but I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has felt like this and will it pass?

Who am I if I'm not fat?
Gizenhoffer replied to Gizenhoffer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You didn't think anyone could be happy being fat? Seriously. I guess because I've always been fat I've just accepted it over time. The smallest I've been, that I can remember, is in a size 16-18. Frankly, I loved being that "tiny" it was the perfect size for me and I stopped there but I got married, adopted some kids and I cant work out three hours a day like I did back then. Thanks for all the encouragement, I appreciate it! -
How do I get a ticker? I am a newbie!
