    So what about straws?

I was told not to use a straw either..because it brings in to much air? I look forward to hear what others think.

    First fill today

Well, by now you probably have had your fill done. I also had my first till today, and like you, I was a basket case. The nurse actually held my hand when it was being done, and I watched everyone like a hawk when they came out of there. All in all, it was a breeze! Now, I guess I will have to wait and see what the future brings. Did you get yours done? The way I look at it, is I can always have the Fluid taken out if need be.

Wow, I just had my first fill today (Friday). I have to be on liquids through Sunday, then soft/mushy foods till Thursday! UGH< who knew I was going to be back on these god awful shakes!!

    Should I or Shouldn't I?

I don't understand what the family is concerned about either. I think it would help you to feel better....go for it. What do you mean "approved" for plastic surgery. Did your insurance approve it?

    Surgery Day!

God Bless, and can't wait to hear from you when it's over. Be patient and take care of yourself!
  6. My preop appointment took a lot longer than I expected. They drew blood for the blood gas test. Then they drew regular blood work. Did EKG, chest xray, and complete medical history. I think it took 3 hours, or so. I went right from there to my pre-op seminar where they teach you for 3 hours how to eat before and after your surgery.
  7. UGH, I am 2 weeks out from surgery, and I DO get hungry. Usually about 2 1/2-3 hours after I ate last. I am on liquids still though. So, I usually have some jello, or popsicle. Can't WAIT for tomorrow's Dr appt when I can be moved on to mushy foods! Today is 4 weeks since I began this whole process, 2 weeks pre op I lost 20 pounds...2 weeks post op, I lost 15 pounds for a grand total of 35!! Oh yeah, I'm still a bit ummm, fat, but I do feel good just losing that!
  8. Hi everyone, I haven't been on line in a while. Cat whisperer I'm sorry for all that you went through. Did you know that the surgeon had put fluid in at surgery? I just assumed it was empty? I'm glad you are feeling better. And to those of you that are less than 7 days out from your surgery, you will feel better...just be patient. I was not a happy camper. But, tomorrow it will be 14 days for me, and I am happy...a week ago, I wasn't liking this banded life.
  9. PS. Good luck on Tuesday! God Bless
  10. Jennifer, I am 10 days post op. I also had my hiatal hernia repaired. It made it very difficult to laugh, cough, yell, and sneeze! Today, is the first day I feel painless in my diaphragm area. I find it tender still, but much easier to laugh!
  11. I agree with what everyone else said, except I would also suggest having some sugar free gum. Or, I bought some sugar free hard candy. After you drink your shake, and you shouldn't drink anything immediately following..;you need something to get that taste out of your mouth.
  12. I am 10 days post op and wondered the same thing about the two. My own feeling was, if I ended up like some people...always sick after weight loss surgery, I want them to be able to take it out. From a Dr's point of view maybe it's less temperamental than a band? A person with a band needs fills, and the Dr has to get it just at that right point for you. Perhaps it is a hit or miss for them. I don't know. But, I do wonder about the data on a sleeve, it hasn't been around as long as the band.
  13. Hi everyone, I went to my general practioner today because my eye sight has been blurry since the surgery last Monday. Turns out I am dehydrated So, I am just putting this out there for everyone...make sure you drink your fluids and try to take in everything they tell you post surgery! Good Luck and God Bless to those who are in surgery today..
  14. Help! I am 7 days post op. I have been drinking Boost shakes with added protein, and am getting sooooo tired of them. I have 8 more days of this (until my follow up appt next Tuesday). I am finding I can only "eat" about 5 oz of anything at a meal. Dietitian says I can have FF pudding, and fat free, or heart healthy strained soup. I bought a couple soups yesterday, and not happy with my choices. Any suggestions for soup? AND, how do I add protein if I am using soup? Unjury says it has to be warm, not hot liquid...????
  15. OH, and I forgot to say good luck to those of you about to get your surgery, it's really not bad...you just have to have patience with yourself, and take time to WALK and REST.
  16. Hi everyone! It has been one week today since my surgery. To date, I have lost a total of 31 pounds, and that feels great! My surgeon keeps me on a liquid diet until I seem him which is May 21st. I am getting tired of Boost shakes, and am looking for some good soup to buy that is "fat free" or "heart healthy". AND, how do you put protein into that? Thoughts are welcome!
  17. I was in the hospital for a total of 30 hours. They had me on IV the entire time. I peed my brains out post op days 2 and 3. I always have issues with water retention, but my ankles look the best they have in YEARS!

    ***1 YEAR BANDIVERSARY***

Blanham, I was just posting in one of the other forums that I was not having a good day, I had my surgery on Monday and just don't feel good today. I am starting to wonder quality of life, and if I will ever be happy again. Then I read your post, Thank you so much for such uplifting thoughts. You helped me to have hope in this process. I also know what you mean about not telling anyone. Sadly, my friends have told other friends, and every knows. What they don't know is that I want to loose 100lbs that I gained when I quit smoking. It's a big goal, and hopefully I can make it happen! Again, thank you for your post.

    May banders!

I woke up feeling the same way this morning. Just lousy. I was good yesterday except for the gas pain in my shoulder. Today, I took an anti nausea med, and am hanging in there. Not a good day today, I'm not a happy camper. On days like this I get paranoid about quality of life after this whole thing is said and done. That being said, it's time to take my antidepressant

    May banders!

Thank you, that is EXACTLY the info I was looking for. I truly had been feeling much better today until my shoulder..today. How are you doing? I had a hiatal hernia repaired also, so it still hurts to sneeze, cough, laugh or YELL. (my family is appreciating the quiet :-) )

    May banders!

Ouch, ouch, I have this horrible pain in my shoulder just like I read everyone said would happen. Took some advil, but it's not working. I am debating on taking Percocet my Dr sent me home with. I haven't taken it since Tuesday (my surgery was Monday). Would I be better off with hot pad on my shoulder instead of pain med?

    May banders!

Is there anyone on here who is post op, and can answer a question for me? I cannot get more than about 4 oz of my shakes for my meals down. I am adding protein to them. But, I just wondered if anyone else was experiencing that? I feel like I am not getting enough nutrients. However, I am only 3 days post op, and just started my shakes last night for dinner.
  23. I had my hernia repaired when I had my band surgery Monday morning. I don't know what to compare it to. All I know is, I can't cough, I can't laugh, and I can't sneeze without experiencing severe pain. Trying not to take Percocet they sent me home with, I got up in the middle of the night and took Tylenol. Helped for a little bit. I'm sure it will get better. Good luck!
  24. Well, this is it. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am. Good night to you all!
