I can totally relate....my date is May 3 and I find myself really worried about sticking to this life change. I have failed sooooo many times in the past and I don't want to repeat my failures again. This is costing us over $17,000 and I also worry about failing and wasting all that money. It certainly wasn't easy to come by and I know for a fact that I won't be able to get it again, so this is it.....I HAVE TO succeed! I soooo look forward to being and feeling like a new person. My goal is 135 pounds, which I haven't seen since I was 11. I have no idea what it is like to be a normal-sized adult (or child for that matter), but I can't wait to find out. I'm so glad that I found this forum where I can ask all the questions I want and get much needed support. Thanks so much everyone!:clap2:

does anyone take certain foods in their purse/car for when you are on the go and don't have alot of time? i'm starting to worry that my fast paced lifestyle is going to be a problem when it comes to eating. one of my biggest problems is shoveling in food because i am in such a hurry all the time....so the question is: is there anything great to keep with you all the time just in case? thanks y'all!:help:

I absolutely LOVE spicy food and it just occured to me last night that this may be a problem after surgery. Anybody got any advice? It certainly isn't more important than losing weight for me, but i would like to be prepared. Thanks!

I have no insurance so we are paying $17,000 cash up-front. What are/were everyone else's costs? Did your doc let you make payments? Just curious!:cry -

wow, wow, wow....i'm going to call a few different hospitals today to see if i can come up with a better price. i can't believe how many of you got this surgery for 8,000 to 12,000!!! i could use some leftover money for new carpet! :) -

wow, maybe i should have done some shopping before i picked vanderbilt. that's the way i do everything else, so i should have known. i've already put alot of money into this hospital in nashville, but if i can find somewhere close that is a huge difference i might switch surgeons....i haven't even met my surgeon anyway. anyone ever had dr. torquati? if i could save 7,000, i would SERIOUSLY consider switching. -
thanks, that takes care of that question!

i've thought about canceling a few times and i don't even have a date yet!!! i understand what you mean. i'm freaked out too. hang in there, i'm sure we will all be glad when the surgery part is over! -
I hope to find out a surgery date today....I'm scared too, but i hope i'm saying the same as everyone else in a couple of months....."just wish i had done it sooner!" great post, by the way:)

hi everyone....i am in the process of getting ready for the band. my pshyc (sp?) evaluation was today. i am supposed to find out friday if they can give me a surgery date. i am currently 258 pounds. my goal weight is 135-150. is that a good goal? i have been heavy all my life (over 200 pounds since high school), but never this big. i have contemplated this surgery for over two years and i finally made the decision to just do it. my husband is all for it. we have no insurance since we're self-employed, and that means this is a huge financial move for us. i am very nervous, but soooo ready for a permanent change. i have dieted for years with the same result...lose a few pounds, gain them all back plus 15 or so more. everyone please feel free to email the things that you wish you had known pre-surgery. i am trying to cover allllll the bases so that i'm not totally blind-sided because i'm unprepared. thanks everyone....good to have somewhere to go for been-there-done-that advice.

welcome! glad to hear it's so great for you...hope i can say the same here soon!!

how bad is the pain two weeks in? are you feeling like doing your normal activities yet? thanks, courtney -
i get six (8oz) carnation instant breakfast shakes(made with skim milk) a day for 8 days before surgery. that's it:) it really doesn't sound too bad, but i'm sure i'll change my mind by about the second hour of the first day:):bolt: good luck with that yogart and cottage cheese!
