When Can I Start Jogging?
sp70 replied to hockeymother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 3 week post op appt yesterday and received paperwork with the 2 week info that said I had no restrictions in regards to exercise. I have done a little jogging with my walks, but when it starts to bother me I stop. The further out I get the less it bothers me. -
I would check with your doctor to be safe. I was told at after 2 weeks, I had no restrictions at all. I was about 2 1/2 weeks out when I started using hand weights.

Just had Surgery Tuesday with some Problems
sp70 replied to dannygoody's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
They haven't put anything in my band and won't until 6 weeks post op. Sorry you had troubles, hope you feel better! -
Thanks everyone! I weighed myself a couple of times the first week post op and told myself at that time I didn't want to become a slave to the scale. So hadn't stepped on it until the doctor's appointment today. I've been pretty hungry the last couple of days and at that moment (stepping on the scale) , it felt like the "other diets" I'd been on. My nurse and nutritionist were very supportive and encouraging. I know good things take time, it's just the little demon sitting on my shoulder telling me otherwise! So glad that I found this site to hear what others are going through as well. It's just me and the kids at home, no one to talk to about it. My teenagers are assupportive as they can be, but don't really understand it.

Oh....Hello appetite....Now go AWAY!!
sp70 replied to WheelCrazy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
walk, walk, walk and maybe try a heating pad on the shoulder....it helped me. Others have used gas-x. Maybe try blending some fruit into your Protein Shakes to thick them up. I blend mine with bananas and ice to make it similar to milkshake consistency. Hang in there! -
I like the classic chocolate and the vanilla. Don't care for strawberry sorbet, but I'm not a big strawberry fan either. The chicken broth one isn't too bad, but can't do it anymore as I had a lot preop and am burned out on it.

Post-Op Roundup - how is everyone doing?
sp70 replied to cat whisperer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgery was the 6th, so I am 3 weeks out and doing pretty good. The soreness is all gone. Still having some troubles with constipation, but we're working on that. I'm in the middle of my diet progression. I find myself eating the same thing every day because I feel unsure of what's ok or not based on my list. Today I felt like a newborn, starving every 2 hours! I see my doctor for my post op visit tomorrow, I was bumped twice last week due to him being stuck in surgery. I walk about an hour a day 5-6 days a week, just started doing some light arm weights. Still lots to learn about living with the band! So far so good. Sorry to hear about those whose surgeon did not talk to you or your family after surgery. That's not right! He answered my questions before hand and then told my mom how things went after and answered her questions. -
Any opinions or experiences with the Nutribullet?
sp70 replied to show1980's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't have the nutribullet, but do use my hamilton beach single blender and love it. It has helped me change up my Protein Shakes. I like that the container also serves as the serving cup with covered lid. So it's easy to make and take on the go. I've added peaches/ bananas and some yogurt to my vanilla Protein shake and it's pretty good. I'm not a fan of yogurt, but it's not to bad as a smoothie. -
Way to stay motivated! So glad you are putting yourself first. That alone, can be a difficult task.

Time between consult and surgery
sp70 replied to Mandemonium's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw the surgeon for a consult last October and was banded this month. Due to all the insurance hoops. Once I got insurance approval surgery was set for 3 weeks later. -
Try to get some rest tonight! You are going to do just fine. Take it easy and follow your doctors orders. Here's to a speedy recovery!
-
What you are feeling is perfectly normal! I had to work all weekend prior to surgery and when I got home I was so busy trying to get the house cleaned and laundry all done. Then I talked my mom's ear off on the way to the hospital and in the waiting room! They will take great care of you and explain everything every step of the way until you drift off to sleep. Things will go just fine, take it one day at a time. You're going to do great! Good luck.

I chose the band after consulting with my surgeon. It is not as invasive, quicker recovery (bonus as a single parent), and he really felt with what I was already doing in regards to exercise and what I need to lose, the band would work great for me. I am only 3 weeks in and so far so good, but I am still learning and still on my staged diet progression. Good luck with your decision!

I have struggled as well. My nutrionist has had me take mirlax (or she also suggest milk of magnesia) daily. I was doing a stool softener, like colace and started my benefiber back up, but she had me stop that, she was afraid the fiber right now would bulk things up too much and cause more troubles. The mirilax has helped. Hope you find some relief soon!

I feel your pain. I waited 4 weeks initially then they wanted more a letter from my pcp which took me 2 weeks to get and then another 4 weeks waiting on insurance. Drove me crazy! It's quite a lesson in patience, which is very hard for most of us. Good luck!

Good Luck with your new endeavor! Have fun.

Good point! Though my scale hasn't moved much lately, my close are fitting differently and my blood pressure is lower than it has been in years. Plus others are starting to notice the change in my appearance!

I'm not gonna lie...I'm so embarrassed...but I'm not gonna lie.
sp70 replied to BekahC79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first week out from surgery, I too felt that with nothing but liquids I should be losing, afterall I lost 10 pounds on the preop liquid diet. To my surprise I was up 3 pounds from day of surgery! I took note of what others here said, this is a time of healing not weightloss that will come. I told myself at that point and time I am not going to be a slave to the scale. My plan is not to weigh more than once a week. I've been in the bathroom in tears as I watched my family eat a nice cooked out meal with all the fixins while all I could have was liquids. We've all been there. Don't be so hard on yourself. Take it one day at a time, you've come too far to give up now! Good Luck. -
Sudden motivation 5 months into my Dr. supervised diet! SO CONFUSED
sp70 replied to CWinkler340's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 20 pounds on the my physician supervised diet. My PCP even questioned if I should go ahead with the lap band, but I knew my chronic history, I can lose it but can not sustain and maintain the loss. I knew in my heart that this was the only way that I could get and stay healthy! -
2 Days Post Op Shoulder Pain On/Off
sp70 replied to PureGamble's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
place a heating pad on the shoulder area and walk, walk, walk to help your body get rid of it. Best wishes! -
I didn't find out about my liquid diet until the day before I had to start it. So it didn't really give me time to think about it and plan any "last meals". This is a lifetime change and some of us have some head work to do. Today was my first day post op that I had head hunger really bad! I'm only 2 1/2 weeks post op and too far in to quit now! It's not easy, but you can do it!

1.5 Weeks Postop and SOOOO Excited! 2 days rough start, but great now!

Amazing! That's less than a month. Congratulations!
