3 weeks post op.. No restriction
sp70 replied to marcelaS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You felt restriction initially because of swelling, as the swelling subsides, so does the restriction. Right now it's all about healing and learning will power and the band diet. Once you start getting fills that will help with portion control. Don't beat yourself when you realize you made a not so good choice, accept it and move on from there. You can do it! -

What do you do when you are craving low fat ice cream?
sp70 replied to sherrintxs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I substitute sugar free pudding with protein powder when I am in need of a sweet snack. I used to eat ice cream almost daily! I've had it twice since my surgery in May. It's hard to pass up home made ice cream. My daughter makes fun of me because when I splurge and have a little, I add protein powder to it too! -
I would imagine with the movement you are stretching your abdominal muscles a bit which is putting some tension on the port sutures making it sore. Until the area is all healed, you will feel some soreness with various activities. I am over two months out and this weekend at work I had to carry 2 pagers on my waistband which is right at the level of my port and I was a bit tender by the end of the weekend. It wasn't until the second night when I leaned up against the counter that I realized what was causing the irritation!

Cigna denied me at first as well, wanting a letter of medical necessity from my PCP. Was leery with the wording from my pcp, because he didn't outwardly say he would recommend the surgery, but did say I would benefit from it. I was approved a couple of weeks later. Hang in there!

If you are sipping pretty much non stop, I wouldn't think you are dehydrated. A quick check would be what is the color of your urine? If it's light or clear you are not dehydrated, if it is really dark then it is concentrated and you are dehydrated. Hope that helps a little!

I take mirilax daily in my protein shake. I took benefiber preop, but that just wasn't cutting it. If you are really straining to go, the blood you passed was probably from an internal hemorrhoid. I've had problems with those in the past too.

My doctor gave me liquid vicodin post op. I took that for about 3 days and then switched to regular Tylenol and did just fine.
-
For my colonoscopy they had me take the ducolax tablets and I also had to mix a bottle of mirilax into 2 bottles of Gatorade. Though you avoid the reds, orange and purple, you still have somewhat of a choice on flavors. Maybe see if you can do that instead?

I have pulled all the tent size clothing out of my closet, if my pants/shorts don't look like a skirt when I cinched my belt, they stay. I have gotten a couple of pairs of capris and a couple pairs of shorts and a couple of tops that fit nicely. Check out the goodwill stores, they have nice clothes that won't cost you a fortune when changing sizes frequently.

My insurance (cigna) denied til they received the letter from my pcp. Not sure about others. Good luck!

I also have Cigna and required a second submission because we were not told about the letter of medical necessity from my pcp. Once that was submitted, it took another 2 weeks. My BMI was 35 when I started and with the 3 month supervised weight loss was down to 33 and was still approved due to my comorbidities. The nurse told me they go off the initial BMI and I had to do a supervised weight loss program to show that I could follow a plan and lose weight. More or less to show the money will be well spent! To pass the time I was still working on my eating habits, using small plates, watching my portions, eliminated carbonated beverages and increased my water intake to the goal of at least 64 ounces/ per day. I also continued to work on my daily exercise. The sooner you start some of those things, the better off you'll be. Good Luck!

You are still healing and it will take some time. I gained the first 2 weeks post op! I saw big changes in how my clothes fit and how I looked long before the scale started moving. My doctor also told me once I had my first fill I would start seeing a more noticeable weight loss. My nutritionist also told me that a SLOW steady weight loss will be easier to keep off. Hang in there, it will come!

I went over 9 days post op before I had my first and was miserable. Milk of Mag became my friend. 2 months out, I still have problems and take a scoop of mirilax daily in my morning protein shake!

I work out at 5 -6 days a week, sometimes twice a day. I've been waking up by 5 most days so I get up and go walk/run for about an hour before it gets too hot.(I'm in week 4 of C25K). I sometimes do the wii zumba and if it's too hot and I didn't get my early walk/run in, I will do the elliptical for about 45 minutes (but my feet go numb) and then do some kettle bell workouts. I like to mix things up so I don't get bored! I'm to the point now, that if I miss a day of exercising, it stresses me out!

There is a lot of swelling right now, which is why you may only take a couple of sips and get full. I think I had a goal of 4 oz per hour in order to stay hydrated. It should get better each day. As far as the gas pains, walk, walk and more walking will ultimately help with that. The heating pad and some gas x has helped others as well. Congratulations on beginning your journey!
-
Congratulations!! You are well on your way now! Please remember to take it slow and chew really well. I was in a hurry and I guess I thought I could still eat the way I did pre band and pre fill and was very mistaken!
-
It was a good 2-3 weeks or so before my port didn't bother me much. I am 2 months out and if I get to laughing a lot, I notice it! Healing takes time, it should get better every day.
-
Will definitely have to try it, that was my favorite flavor preop. Thanks!

Just had first fill--how long does this feeling last?
sp70 replied to Prynn65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The fill can cause more swelling, which is why they say go back to liquids. So hopefully, tomorrow you will be feeling better. Just remember to eat slow and chew really well. I was able to progress to soft foods the day after my fill and ate like I did before the fill, which was a mistake. Advance as your doc recommends and you can tolerate, you'll do just fine. -
Congratulations! I have seen some info on the tough mudder and it looks like it would be fun, though I am no where near ready for something like that. Just started my 3rd week of couch to 5k. Good luck!
-
I did the same thing last night with scrambled eggs! I was so excited to see my son who's been gone all summer at camp that I wasn't eating like I had the band. Ouch! When will I learn?!?

How do your other doctors feel about you tting the lapband?
sp70 replied to clg61753's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP was fully supportive of me at the start of the process. Then I lost 20 pounds on the physician supervised diet and he felt then that I could do it on my own and was no longer as supportive. (I had lost that same 20 pounds at least a dozen times before!) When it came time to write a letter to the insurance company, he wouldn't say he recommended it for me, but did say that I would benefit from it. Luckily, with all the other documentation on file, they approved me!
