    Removal

I sure hope you feel better soon. I am a week and a day out myself and I have had my moments too. A friend of mine, who had gastric bypass a couple of years ago, that the first couple weeks totally suck! Your body is going through a big adjustment from the surgery itself and it is also detoxing from the previous way of eating (carbs and sugar), which make you feel like crud. As nurses it is hard to take time for ourselves let alone allow us to have a moment to heal. Work will go on with or without us. Please take the time you need to heal. I think this whole process is a big lesson in "patience", I know that is hard for me, especially being a nurse I like to be in control! Please do call the office and let them know how you are feeling, hopefully they will have some words of wisdom for you! Sending hugs your way!
  2. Good luck to both of you, You will do great!

    Change up

Plateau's stink! Way to stay motivated and not let it get you down! By your ticker looks like you've done an amazing job thus far. I'm still a newbie and so no big words of wisdom, just some encouragement! You can do it!!

    Follow up Today

Congratulations! Very exciting. I am a week out and a little bummed that with the liquids the scale hasn't budged since day of surgery. Started soft/pureed food today. The scrambled egg this morning was wonderful! Hope your appointment goes well this afternoon!
  5. I was weighed at the hospital morning of surgery. I figured it was a way to see if I really followed the preop liquid diet! I was never weighed before any of my previous surgeries. Not sure of how many places do, but I would expect it, especially if it will help you stay accountable! Can't hurt! good luck.
  6. I've been using vanilla and chocolate from unjury. I've added banana to the chocolate one and sometimes will add a spoonful of peanut butter as well for a change in flavor. I've tried the strawberry sorbet, but didn't care too much for it, but I'm not a big strawberry fan either.

    Liquid Diet

By the third day of the liquid diet nothing sounded good to me and lost my appetite as well. I was pretty surprised by it as well!

    Pureed food

Surgery was monday for me, I am on liquids for a week. Get to start pureed on Monday. Each week I get to add something a little new. Excited, yet nervous!
  9. I also had surgery on Monday. I am a lot more sore than I thought I would be. I like a to hold a pillow across my belly for support as I walk around the house as I feel so bloated. I've taken a few walks outside which has been nice to get some fresh air. Today is the first day that I felt hungry, though a popsicle filled me up too much. Trying to figure out the sipping. Yesterday was the first day I met my protein requirement thru protein shakes. Today the emotions kicked in, what was I thinking, did I do the right thing?
  10. That's from the special soap they use before they start surgery. Mine was blue. It's tinted so they know where they have scrubbed and where they still need to scrub. It will wash away. No worries!
  11. Congrats and thanks for posting! I am only 2 days post op, more uncomfortable than I thought I'd be, family is supportive but doesn't really understand it all and now I am questioning if I did the right thing. I keep reminding myself how many say this is the best thing they've done and their only regret is not doing it sooner.
  12. Congratulations! My surgery was Monday. I had to do a 5 day liquid diet preop and lost 10 pounds during that process. Don't dwell on the past, focus on your goals and things will go just fine. Good luck on Thursday!
  13. The roughest for me was the first two days. Once I got to day 3, I had lost a lot of my appetite and nothing sounded good at all. I personally like the protein shakes when they are really cold, put mine in the freezer to become slushy, or blend the powder with ice/water. A lot of it is mind over matter. Good luck, you can do it!

    Banded 5/2/13

Welcome! Hope you are doing well. This is a great place for support and reassurance.
  16. Your fears are perfectly normal. You will do just fine. My surgery is tomorrow as well, so today is a day of keeping busy getting things ready around the house so I can take it easy after that. You've worked hard to get to this point. You've got this!
  17. I see Dr. Berghoff at North Kansas City Hospital. Surgery is Monday, but love all of his staff who have helped me get to this point!

    Banded Today

Congratulations, you made it! Glad to hear you are doing well.
  19. Sorry you were feeling so crummy. Hopefully the chicken and salad will help keep you on track. I am on day of 2 of 5 of liquids. Doing ok so far, I won't lie, the cupcakes my daughter made for her youth group party looked pretty good. My son even offered to put one in the blender and liquify it for me! Keep up the great work!

    NERVES KICKING IN!!

I know how you feel. My surgery is the 6th, went in for my preop appt yesterday and started a 5 day liquid diet today. I'm getting a bit nervous as well, and I've had other surgeries and know what to expect. It's hard to believe after "fighting" to get this for the last 6 months, it's almost here! Just trying to keep myself busy. Glad I work this weekend! Hang in there, you can do this! It will be so worth it!

    Waiting game...

Once all my pre requirements were done they submitted it to insurance it took 4 weeks before we heard back. Of course, they wanted a letter from my doctor which took me 3 weeks to get and then once it was resubmitted it took another 3 weeks. The waiting, wondering and hoping was awful! I was in frequent contact with the coordinator, felt like I was pestering her, but she said it was ok. All insurance companies are so diffrent, some I've heard have gotten approval in a couple of days. In the mean time, it's hard to stay distracted! Good luck.

    Getting into exercise

I agree with the others, you just need to try a variety of things until you find one that you like. Having a buddy helps too. I started with a low impact boot camp class last January and though I stopped doing it at the end of the summer, I have kept up with walking and hand weights as I don't want to lose all the flexibilty I was starting to gain. I love my walks with my Ipod. I'm even starting to jog a little, but I don't last very long with that, hopefully after some of the weight comes off that will be easier. As a single parent, it is "my time". I get cranky when I don't get to do it. At first I think it is hard to get and stay motivated, but once you make it a habit, you'll miss it when you don't do it.
