Any smokers prior to surgery?
kmbrtn replied to KH24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That stuff is horrible! I was using it when I had a hysterectomy and was in the hospital three extre days due to heart issues. Haven't touched it since. -
Fir those of you who have Aetna, create an account on their website and you can view the prerequisites for pretty much any procedure. I'm in AZ and found out I have a few options to start down this path...BMI is not a problem and I have ten years of doctors visits that document my weight. I even have hospital records documenting my weight. I either need to go six months meeting with a doc and nutritionist or dietician. OR Participate in a 90 day surgical prep regimen including behavior modification, consult with dietician, exercise program, and reduced calorie diet. Guess which one I'd prefer? Hope this helps. Nite all

Any surgery for stenosis? Curious because my husband is still working full time 2 years post op. L4/5 and some disk issues. Stenosis was so bad he was almost in a wheel chair.

Hi all, I've been lurking around for a while now. I found this board doing research about lap band and even cancelled an appointment with a surgeon based on reviews here. Thanks so much for all the info! Made my first appointment for consultation at True Results for next month, no days off between now and then. I've already got confirmation from my insurance for coverage, Aetna, so when I go for my appointment they will be able to tell me what the time line looks like as well as what my out of pocket will be. I'm terribly nervous, but excited as well! Thanks to everyone for your honesty and all the tips and info. You've helped me make up my mind and go for it!

@hmmrgrl I actually know a few people who have had one type of barriatric surgery or another. With the exception of 1 person all would do it again. The 1 person has gained a lot of her weight back and is having medical issues. She eats a lot of junk though and doesn't exercise at all. I also did a LOT of research before I made a decision and also talked about it with my husband and my mom. I read everything I could find and lurked in a lot of chat rooms and message boards reading what actual patients have said after their surgery. This message board has a wealth of information. I also researched doctors in my area including patient reviews. I don't need a referral from my doc with my insurance so I just made an appointment, but just be honest with your doctor and talk about it. Explain how you feel and why. Doctors are supposed to be on YOUR side so if yours isn't maybe a new doc is in order. I'm terrified believe me, but I want to be healthy and look good more! Good luck and keep us updated!
