    Band Slippage Blues

I too am so stressed because yesterday I was told that I have a prolapse. I have to go back to my dr in 4 weeks. I am down 40 lbs since my surgery in May and was feeling great and excited about my progress now I'm disappointed and worried that I may have to have the band completely deflated or possible surgery to fix it. I had 3 adjustments, but had to go have a small amount removed after the 3rd it was too tight too fast. Then I caught a virus/ stomach flu and was horribly sick for almost 2 weeks and because I had been throwing up so much from that more Fluid was removed to let my stomach heal somewhat. I did get to where I was more hungry and could eat more at one time in the past two weeks but I definitely didn't eat the way I did prior to being banded. I was concerned when I was sick about the throwing up very frequently causing a problem but I have felt good since I got over the stomach bug. My stress level has been very high also. Dealing with 2 kids (18 & 20 yrs ) that are being so rebellious that I've had to make them move out of the house and they tell me at the dr not to be stressed. I am hoping and praying that things look better in 4 weeks and that my worrying over this prolapse doesn't make things worse.
  2. Was banded May 9,2013. Got my first fill 4 weeks later. I did great until my 3rd fill in Aug. I was a little too tight and having reflux pretty bad and wasn't able to get my food down. So went to the dr and had some fluid removed and immediately began to feel better, then about two weeks after that I got an awful stomach virus and was terribly sick for over a week. During this time I had more fluid removed to give my stomach a chance to heal and settle down from the virus and throwing up so much. We'll that was five weeks ago. I just went in today for an adjustment. I had gained 3 lbs, which didn't really surprise me since I lost almost 10 lbs in 6 days while I was sick. But today I was told I have a prolapse. I've got to go back in 4 weeks from today. If it doesn't look better then all of the fluid must be removed, wait another 6 weeks and check to see if it is any better, if not I will have to have surgery to reposition the band. Has anyone else had any problem like this?
  3. Was banded May 9, 2013. Everything went well. Got my first fill at 6 weeks then in August I was having a lot of throwing up and reflux so I had fluid removed. I felt better right away. Then in September I got an awful stomach virus and couldn't keep anything on my stomach for over a week. I went to see my dr and we removed more fluid to allow my stomach to settle down and heal from the virus and the throwing up. That has been five weeks ago. I went for an adjustment today and I had gained 3 lbs which didn't really surprise me since when I had the virus I lost almost 10 lbs in less than a week but I am now worried about this prolapse. I've got to go back in 4 weeks and if it isn't any better or is worse all fluid will be removed, wait 4 - 6 weeks see if that helps if it doesn't then surgery to reposition the band. They also said try not to be stressed! Yeah right! I'm a worry wart anyway, not to mention the past 3 months have probably been the most stressful time of my life as I have been dealing with my 18 & 20 year old kids acting up to the point that we had to make them move out of the house. So how I'm going to avoid stress I don't know. Sorry for rambling on. Has anyone else had a prolapse? Is this a common thing? I am just so upset and disappointed because I've lost 40 lbs and had been doing so good. I don't want to back track and I especially don't want to have to pay for surgery again. Any advise?

    Stress? Tighter band?

I have also had this problem. I was doing great after my last fill then unfortunately had some issues come up with my oldest kids and the worry and the stress made it awful. I had about 3 horrible weeks where I had to eat soups and drink protein drinks after I had been able to eat solids with no problems.
  5. I have been throwing up since Friday. I had a small amount of fluid removed 2 1/2 weeks ago because I wasn't able to eat solids and I was having problems with my food getting stuck. After fluid was removed I was better until 3 days ago. But when I am sick now it feels more like when you have a stomach virus not like when my band was too tight. Has anybody else experienced this. I am afraid that I'm going to mess up my band from throwing up so much even if it is a virus.

    Overeating

I kinda feel the same way. I've had my 2nd fill and I definitely don't eat as much as I used to but I feel like I am able to eat more than I should.

    Protein powder makes me ill

I found that I am allergic to the whey protein. After a week on it I had noticed that I had been itching but I hadn't pay much attention to it then I noticed a rash on my legs, then arms and the tops of my feet. It just about drove me crazy for days. So I went to the Vitamin Shoppe and got some egg white protein and it cleared up after a few days of not being on the whey protein. The Jay Robb brand is the best one I've tried so far. Also I bought a shaker bottle with a whisk ball in it and it mixes the shakes up better than the blender.

    First fill

    Congratulations!
  12. I have Baractric Advantage. The vanilla and chocolate are pretty good. You can add fruits to the vanilla to make some tasty shakes. I would say you could do that with any vanilla flavor. My favorite is to add a spoonfull of peanut butter to the chocolate. It is so good. These were recipes that they gave me at my doctors office when I got the powder before my surgery. I am on clear liquids right now and will be glad to get back to those shakes.

Who am I if I'm not fat?

I think that you will find that you are still you but will enjoy having a healthier life. Good luck!

    Banded on May 9, 2013

I was also banded May 9th. I have felt pretty good. I am sore in my stomach and expected to be but any pain I've had has been caused by the gas that was put in me for surgery. I've walked alot and rocked in rocking chair helps too.
  15. I started my pre-op diet 9 days ago and since then I have developed a rash that started on my upper thighs and arms. I first thought it was a heat rash but it is spreading. It is now on the tops of my feet. They ONLY thing I've changed in this time frame is that I am on the whey protein meal replacement shakes for 2 weeks prior to my surgery. Upon googling this problem with the whey I did find that sometimes you can develope an allergy to it. Has anyone else had this problem and if I can't use this whey protein what can I use as my meal replacement? Of course it is the weekend and I can't go to my drs office until Monday.
  16. Thanks, I will see what I can find but the nutritionist told us to be sure and use the whey protein. I didn't know if it would mess up my diet if I changed or not.
  17. Has anyone on the whey protein had any reactions to it? I have developed a rash since starting my pre-op diet 9 days ago. The diet change is the only change I've made. No new soaps, detergents, meds or anything like that.
