Nothing hurts more than when a 'loved one' criticizes. I suspect since you haven't told your mother about your surgery, she's not very supportive. I would look to avoid her for a while as she seems to be toxic for you.
My sister is also heavy and she is getting pressure from some family members to do what I did and get the lapband. I've never pressured her and try to downplay my focus on eating per the band when I'm with her as it is very important to me that she make that decision herself.

I had mine for four years....i used it often! Mostly for smoothies/protein shakes. It did pretty good at crushing ice. I'd mix about one cup ice, one cup unsweetened almond milk, a serving or so of chocolate protien powder, and sometimes PB2. It finally quit friday.....i got a ninja one from kohls sunday. So far, so good. This ninja is very powerful! Makes snow out of ice! Sixty bucks at kohls.

I had surgery this morning and am home now. Not to bad with the pain. Able to sip ok. The gas pain in my shoulders is there but manageable. All in all, not to terrible so far. I am wishing my other June 10 peeps good wishes today, ArtM and metsmomma. Hope all is well with everyone. Thanks for all of the prayers and well wishes from everyone too. It helped.

I've seen posts like yours before so I would say what you're feeling is normal. Obviously no one can hold you back but you at this point. I think the trigger for this behavior is the idea you won't be able to eat your favorite foods ever again and that's just not the case. We all indulge ourselves occasionally. But once you're banded and your band is adjusted properly you may not want to eat all those foods that created the person you are now. You'll still be you, just you with more confidence and self control.

I can't believe she did that!! Oh my gosh, I'd have gone ballistic!!
Whenever someone has given me unsolicited (often ridiculous) advice about my weight in the past, I usually have just said "Well I can lose weight but you can't fix ignorant. Good luck with that".

My mother came to visit and proceeded to tell me I need to lose weight....multiple times. As she was leaving she handed me some diet pills, metabalife?, and told me to start taking them. The bottle looked old so I looked at the expiration date and it had expired in 2003!!!! She does not know I am getting lap band in 2 weeks. When she sees me next and notices I have lost weight I am going to tell her it was the expired metabalife pills that she gave me that helped hahaha oh family.
What was the craziest/weirdest/most outrageous/offensive thing someone has advised you to do to lose weight?

You won't know what you are capable of until you try!! If for some reason lap band isn't the right tool for you, at least you can say that you tried it and move on to something else that does work for you.
    You can do this
You can make good, healthy positive choices for your life
    You deserve this
You will never be perfect, but you will keep trying over and over again
You will not give up on yourself
    You can do this!!

I read somewhere that people should wait 6 months because some have a "trading addiction" (trading food addiction for whatever) problem. Idk if that's true, but that's what I've been kinda sticking with.

You are very wise to start changing eating habits now. It took years to develop the ones we had, and it will likely take a good while to change them. I am at 17 months, and still catch myself cramming in food like I am in a hot dog eating contest. I takes constant focus, and we have to work for what we want.
Best wishes to you. I found that when I chew more, I do not need to wash my food down with liquid. I do however drink right up until I start eating. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your advice! I think I'm not going to say anything to anyone until people start asking.
I agree with Terry that I can't lie and give people false hope. I got to this place because someone else who had lap band was honest and open about it when asked. I hope I can someday be someone else's inspiration like she has been for me. I'm not going to run around telling random people either. As someone else said, it is my private business and I'm doing it for my health. Thanks everyone!

Don't be too hard on yourself! We are all addicts. Alcoholics/drug addicts don't have to consume their drug of choice to survive like we do. Drink lots and lots of fluids and maybe leave the house when the family eats.

When I was anticipating this surgery, there were a couple of people who also said that I wasn't that heavy; not heavy enough to warrant surgery. Though that was nice to hear, the reality was.....YES, I was that heavy, and the number continued to climb.
I also went through the gambit of feelings over the months prior to surgery; many of those months just getting to the decision to do it. As difficult as it is to wait, it's a blessing. This is a huge life changing step, and not one that anyone should jump into. Once I decided against having a gastric bypass, the lap band (+ plication) wasn't as scary, and I never questioned my decision. My behavior, the scale AND the mirror told me ALL I needed to know; if I didn't do something, I would continue to gain weight, and eventually have some catastrophic health event......probably, death.
I don't know how old you are, but ask yourself this..... Is there anything you are going to miss eating, more than you miss feeling good about yourself? Instead of focusing on what you'll be giving up, try & focus on ALL that you'll be getting in return; especially, a beautiful HEALTHIER you. Imagine not dreading getting dressed in the morning & looking in the mirror. Imagine how it will feel being lighter on your feet, not dragging around the ball & chain of the extra pounds. And the reality is, once you're well on your way with the band, on occasion, you can have a little bit of the things you love - in moderation. There is nothing wrong with fajitas, but you will only eat a small amount. Fried fish is never a good choice, but on occasion, if you have a taste for it, you can have a small amount. As long as you count the calories, and stay within your program, you are fine. However, with the band, Coke is something you will need to give up. Aside from all the sugar, carbonated beverages are a huge NO when banded.
The bottom line is, you have decide what's more important to you; continuing to eat whatever you want when you want it....continuing to gain weight with more life threatening health issues, or putting the unhealthful lifestyle in reverse, and moving in the direction of good health and longevity. Type II diabetes is SERIOUS! In retrospect, is fried catfish really that important?

What you're going through is totally normal. I know I was second guessing my decision right up until the time they wheeled me into the ER. I had failed so many times before that I just didn't believe this would actually work for me. I weighed over 400 pounds and was miserable. I couldn't picture myself any other way, either.
Now, I sit here recovering from another surgery. 3 days ago I had a major hernia repair, Tummy Tuck, and skin removal. I started this journey in a 7x or 8x shirt and right now I'm wearing a ladies size large. For the first time in a decade I'm not wearing a shirt that goes to my knees to cover my gut. When my boyfriend saw me his jaw literally dropped. He's been going on and on about how awesome I look and what a cute figure I have. My 18 year old daughter saw me and said "holy crap mom, you're skinny!!" All this and I am still very swollen and have drains in from surgery.
It's extremely surreal to lose over 200 pounds and now to be healing from this recent surgery- and none of it would have happened without my Lap Band.
Contrary to my own stinking thinking 200 pounds ago, I am not destined to be fat. You are not destined to be fat, either. You are destined for success and happiness. Believe that and believe in yourself.
Hang in there. We believe in you
