True Results question
beanie80 replied to txsonicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call them and ask. I didn't go to true results, but I've had 3 nutrition appointments, and email my nutritionist whenever I have a question. You need more support than what you have gotten so far. It isn't just about having the band placed, it is about a total lifestyle change. From what I've heard on here true results sounds like a lap band factory where you don't get any support or follow up. Please correct me if I'm wrong about them. -
15 days post-op and I finally...
beanie80 replied to deleteme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so jealous! My doc said a month after surgery also. I miss working out so bad. I tried to walk the other day but it was too much. I'm only 9 days post-op today so I guess it was probably too soon. Have fun and have a run for me! -
Tattoos after weight loss
beanie80 replied to aviva1979's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have any tattoos but I'm a nurse and see lots of them. They are going to look kind of sad after major weight loss due to saggy, excess skin. Everything kind of deflates on them. I don't know if that makes sense. -
I am 8 days post op. I can feel my port easily but it feels flat and flush with my abdominal wall muscles. It doesn't hurt when I push on it. I would call my surgeons office tomorrow if I were you. Have you been throwing up? Coughing? Anything vigorous that might have flipped your port?

8oz = 1 cup 4oz = 1/2 cup So if you are eating between 4-8oz you are doing fine

Newly banded bandsters!
beanie80 replied to rbmk14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is called an incentive spirometer. It is used after surgeries to get people to take deep breaths as we tend to shallow breathe with pain. It is important to do your breathing exercises, even if your lungs hurt. Your lungs hurting is your lungs expanding, work through it. -
Someone else posted this so I can't take credit for this link, I just can't remember the original poster http://www.5daypouchtest.com/

Congrats Downysoft! I must have missed your surgery date. It will get better as everyone here says. I'm 8 days post-op and am finally feeling really good. I found that putting some drink in my mouth first and then pouring the lortab in and swallowing quickly lessened the nasty taste. Take your lortab regularly and don't try to push yourself too hard too soon. I hope you have someone there to help you get up and back into your chair. I second whoever said to use an icepack on your port site!

Pebbagirl- It looks like you are getting some great advice. The only thing I can add is it sounds like you need to start over with the low cal/low sugar/low fat/protein shakes diet. I am 8 days post op, do low/no sugar, low fat, low cal and I can't imagine eating pizza. I love pizza. I LOVED pizza. I can't imagine putting that into my body now as I would get incredibly sick because my body is not used to it anymore. You need to detox again, re-set your body back to a clean way of eating. We are all like drug addicts. We get our bodies detoxed and then if we go back and get a little hit of the high fat/high carb/high sugar stuff it is so hard to stop. You have done this once before and you can do it again! Someone else suggested the 5 day pouch test, which I think would be a great idea for you. You have the tools, now you need to get your head straight!

I had a pretty rough night last night and a rough morning this morning. I haven't been able to sleep well the past two nights due to pain and I don't even know what. I will sleep for maybe 4 hours and then wake up, wide awake for no reason or wake up with port pain. I took my dog for a 20 minute slow walk yesterday, ran some errands in the car and I think I just overdid it. It felt good to be out and about, but yesterday evening and this morning I was paying for it. I Have spent the day today with my bottle of lortab, dog, and a good book. Had my first post-op appointment with my surgeon this morning. He said everything looks good. My port was not damaged and it did not flip due to my coughing spell, so that was great news. I still can't go back to seeing patients ft until next week, and I'm a little bummed by that. I'm mentally ready to be back at work, but physically just can't do it yet. I'll go back and see my surgeon in 4 weeks for a check-up and my first fill. On a happier note, I found a delicious low fat/low calorie organic soup called Pacific Cream of Tomato! It has 100 calories, 2 grams of fat and 5 grams of protein in 1 cup. I had it for both lunch and dinner today. I was able to get in 68g of protein so far today, which I think is a personal best since surgery.

Sorry about this gross question...
beanie80 replied to Helli's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't do Metamucil! It is an osmotic laxative. You will have even worse diarrhea and that Johnny Cash song ring of fire will have all new meaning to you. Are you using milk in your shakes? maybe it is an uncovered lactose intolerance? -
Congratulations! What a milestone. Keep up the good work!

Officially nervous about recovery pain
beanie80 replied to Shante92's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drugs; medically prescribed narcotics are best. Gas X. Heating pad for gas pained shoulders and an ice pack for your port site. Friend/partner/relative/stranger basically anyone who will massage your gas pained shoulders. It is manageable, but not a walk in the park. Best of Luck -
Date set for June 27th - anybody scheduled for the same week?
beanie80 replied to heather316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anyone else suffering from gas pains?! I thought I had escaped the dreaded gas pains but my shoulder started hurting over the last day or two. I have done downward dog, taken gas x, used a heating pad, gotten a shoulder massage and my darn shoulder still hurts when I breathe in deeply. ugh. They all helped a little bit, but nothing has relieved the pain. I also wanted to tell you guys I found a great organic low fat/low cal creamy tomato soup! I had it for both lunch and dinner today. It is made by Pacific. -
Congratulations Lolo on scheduling your procedure! It is not an easy road, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy . I'm 6 days post-op (June 26th I was banded) and I'm not going back to work until next Monday the 8th. I'm not going to lie, it's been a rough recovery but every day gets better. Read through these forums, ask a lot of questions, and find some other people who are being banded the same time as you to share the experiences. Best of Luck and you will do great!

I just swallowed my gum...
beanie80 replied to Medikdave's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that counts as a small meal at this point post-op...maybe it will keep you full for a while -
It doesn't sound band related to me, but I'm new to this whole band thing. You might want to head into your PCP and get your ears and throat checked out.

It should fit through your band. You haven't had a fill, have you? was it a piece of gum or a huge wad? -
Very active before lap band, worried about endurance post-op
beanie80 replied to beanie80's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Pygo, my other sport was eating. I've always loved to exercise, but I've always loved to eat. If I didn't exercise like I did I would have probably been even larger. My weight was beginning to get in the way of my exercise and it was really bothering me. I remember doing a yoga class and glancing in the mirror and thinking 'oh that's good that big woman is doing yoga' only to realize it was me. Hence the lap band. -

Terry how many calories do you eat a day and do you eat your exercise calories? I miss exercising so much. I walked my dog for about 20 minutes yesterday (very slowly) and it was hard on me. -
New to FitBit - Hoping to find some friends!

beanie80 replied to heather316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also can feel my port, not my band. I'm guessing the itching is from healing. Anyone else get really hungry but is just too lazy/sick of the options to eat? How many calories a day are you all getting? I'm still less than 400/day -
Congratulations and best of luck!!

Banded Saturday. Should I be feeling this bad?
beanie80 replied to Amberley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just described my banding experience. I am 5 days post op and am finally starting to feel like a normal person again. Just take it easy on yourself, drink lots of water and catch up on some movies. If you have some nausea medicine, take it. Time is the only thing that will make you better
