    easy to self destruct

Oof! I know what you mean and I don't even have all the parts that make that an issue! I have one ovary left...but it's enough to send me into the salty sweet greasy craving mood swings. Still causes some Water retention and bloating too! Aren't hormones fun?! NOT but they are amazing in the things they can do to your body!

    Obamacare may deny WLS?

Hi Chris, I don't think we are trying to say too much about the health care in Canada as opposed to what is happening here with this bill. The socialized healthcare you have there sounds like it works for you and for a bunch of other folks I know in Canada. We don't know what it will be like here if it should be socialized, and I think what people are saying is that if it follows the Obama Care model as it's set out, they are not happy about it. I believe things are what you make of them, and it's great that your country's healthcare is working for you and you are doing well.

All I can say is sometimes the evil that you know is better then the evil that you don't know. They have yet to put a viable candidate on the block IMO

    Obamacare may deny WLS?

Your right I can see that happening if we let it. That is why the bill has not passed, and why they keep changing and poking holes in it. I agree it needs to be re-worked and we should not have our choices taken away for the sake of providing health care to the masses, there are better ways to accomplish this. I don't want to see that socialized health care anymore then the next guy, the only thing I do support is the need to do something. The system must change, and perhaps this bill for the good the bad and the ugly can be the catalyst for that. I would not vote for it as it's written today, and most of the population of America wouldn't either. We are on the same side.

    Insurance criteria help needed.

Tryingforever.... Speak to your PCP. If you see them regularly and they know you are having weight issue...perhaps they can go back through you chart for 6 months. My PCP had no problem signing the forms the insurance company required just by going back through my chart. I post dated the forms for the 6 months and sent them to the Surgeon and the insurance company and all was well. My PCP knows me well, and knows that this was something I needed and that I would be healthier because of it, she had no issues helping me to facilitate that goal. Talk to your docs the worst they can say is no. Best of luck to you!

    Obamacare may deny WLS?

Ugh..OK I typed a whole post and lost it....so now just a paraphrase... So my question short and sweet was this... Are the people in these states that are going to be without coverage for WLS the ones that have to rely on the Government plans for health care? I work and pay for my health care coverage, and here in the US we have a choice. We are not forced to use the Government programs, and we can also pick and choose from the programs available should we need to. That is the difference. These people can choose to get a job where they are provided the type of health care they seeking, or they can choose to pick from the Government selection, and at least have some kind of health care so that the hospitals they end up in don't have to eat the cost of their care. Ultimately we are all paying for this. Hospitals go bankrupt and nurses are laid off, staff is cut down and when we need them not only are they not available, but the cost of our health care rises to off set this loss. Obama care while it has it's flaws, also has it's merit. There should be some cost regulation on the testing and treatments that patients require. Doctors and nurses and hospital staff should be paid for their services, their experience and their education. However we should not have to pay thousands upon thousands of dollars for blood work and MRI's, chemo treatments etc. Here is an example: The cost of stitches, 7 of them was over 3 thousand dollars. The hospital billed out my son's stitches as "surgery". Really? The resident doc, stitched him up in the ER. No plastic surgeon came to check him out. I could have done that at home for the cost of the medical kit. $10. If you factor in the cost of the hospital time and the Dr. that bill should not have exceeded $500. OC provides patients that have a change in insurance to be covered for per-existing conditions and that is a plus, it provides my 21 year old son who is just starting to find a job and can't afford his own medical coverage the opportunity to be covered under my health plan until he can afford his own. Yes there are regulations on the plans that are chosen by those without coverage, but they have a choice as we all do, and it takes some of the burden from the American people who now currently pay higher taxes for Welfare and Medicaid. Empower people to work for themselves, to live their lives and to take care of themselves. Provide those who are suffering from traumatic injury and illness a respite from the high costs of care and allow them a fighting chance to recover and be able to afford to continue living. That is a message I can stand behind.

    Lapband with Plication

I have had the procedure as well. I don't feel much difference from the plication, but my husband who also had it done has noticed an increase in the speed of digestion. That is what it is supposed to do, it mimics the sleeve operation without the removal of the stomach, rather the stomach is folded in on itself and then stitched into place to hold the fold. Did you have any other questions about the procedure?

    Port hurts

Every now and then I feel like my port is sticking out a bit more, or is more sensitive. It's usually because of the way I am sitting or leaning up against my desk at work. Occasionally when I do some exercises or lift something very heavy it will happen as well. It just reminds me that I have had surgery and I need to stop trying to be Hercules and sit properly at my desk If the port really bothers you though, when you see the Dr. you should mention it to him/her just to be sure there isn't something more going on in or around it.
  11. I can't seem to shake this upper respiratory infection...I'm on antibiotics, and I know I'm pushing it too much and not taking enough time to rest. I'm running around all weekend with unexpected family in from out of state, stressed out over kids putting hands through a glass window and needed stitches, and I'm still feeling sick and just not making the best choices! I'm at work today, feeling really fatigued and lazy, worst of all I'm feeling really guilty about it

    Feed a cold....

Well Ladies and Gent's it's here...cold and flu season! I caught me a right nasty cold too! Sinus is clogged throat is scratchy I sound like a guy who swallowed a bull frog...chest is tight bit of a cough just miserable. I wasn't trying to catch it. It just cropped up and made it self at home! So I'm trying to fight it with everything I got, and I wonder...what's best to feed this cold? Starting with some tea...working my way to chicken Soup and salad for lunch...keeping Protein high.. Anyone out there in bandland have some good ideas for feeding a cold? I'm finding I'm not so hungry...but making sure I am getting that nutrition in so it doesn't get worse. How about Mucinex? Anyone have any experience with a cold/flu and the band?

    No pound loss

Hi there ND, Let me say congrats on getting to where you are so far. The thing that is happening to you right now is pretty much on target with what a few others have said. Your body is in a bit of shock right now. First you had major surgery, trauma. Your body doesn't know you did that on purpose. To our bodies it's just trauma. Something that happened that upset it's usual balance. Even if that balance was bad our bodies were used to it. Second you are adding MORE trauma now...your eating low calorie low fat no carb. Your body thinks you are starving. It doesn't know you are choosing to eat this way and that there is food all around you. It thinks it needs to hold onto the fat stores for emergency use in case of famine. Then you are adding in a work out that is depleting the body of 1000 of the calories you are putting in and leaving it only 200 to work with. So it is taking it all and squirreling it away to save it for a rainy day. Take a mini break. Eat, and rest. Muscle needs time to repair. When you don't give it time to repair it swells and holds onto the lactic acid. Don't stop don't give up, just take a rest every now and again, throw a carb or two a healthy one in, and you will see your body will relax and let you and the number on the scale will plummet. I know we are not athletes, but if you check out some fitness mags, or books you will see that they all pretty much have the same fundamentals to gain and to lose muscle and weight. Your doing great! Keep going strong! Work out for me today! I feel too sick today especially after a morning at the DMV

    Water

My NUT explained that the reason they say to drink 30 min. before is because some times the Fluid can fill the pouch long enough that adding food to it too soon can do one of two things... 1- It can soften the food and make it slide through, or 2- it can make you feel uncomfortably full and over dilate the pouch. I would think that if the second one is happening though, that the band is a bit tight. If fluid can't pass through...but I am thinking clear fluid like Water not shakes or anything like that which is what they could be getting at with that second statement. Then conflicting to this I read I'm not sure where..I read alot maybe in the big lapband book..but don't quote me on that. There is a technique called water loading where in people drink lots of water prior to eating so that they are not so hungry or feel fuller faster when they eat. Anyone have any experience with either of those theory's?

    Feed a cold....

Oh yes I know but they are a bit large to swallow and so far I have not had any issues with pills getting stuck...I did find the blue liquid Mucinex, took that last night, rubbed Vicks vapo on chest and back and slept in a little Vicks coma last night It really broke up lots of congestion, and I was able to get it out. Might be looking at a visit for the Dr. for antibiotics...looks a little more serious then just a cold

    Happy

I think you are all great! It took me some time to get back to 100% myself after surgery. Truth be told I have never gone back to myself. I have become a better more exuberant self. I like me better now then I did before and I thought I was pretty great too I noticed for myself after going back to solid food, I wasn't feeling so great and my energy was getting really low. After going to the Dr. they found that my Protein levels weren't where they should be. I wasn't so hungry and I wasn't keeping the protein intake where it needed to be. I have since made changes and BING energy level is better!! Ameyer, I will share with you what a friend on here shared with me. There are protein shots by Body Fortress. They are 2.5 oz only 110 cal but they contain 26 grams of protein. They are thin watery substance fruit punch or grape flavored. Check with your Doc of course and/or your Nutritionist, but that is what helped me. I could easily add a 2 oz vial to my diet and they helped so much. Feel better soon! Keep us up to date.
