    Who Got Stuck For Thanksgiving?

This is terrible to say…but my first bite of Turkey, my sister in law screeched across the room for her son to move and as her voice cut through me like a knife, I swallowed too fast and yup I was stuck! That pretty much put a fork in Thanksgiving dinner for me! I pushed the rest around on my dish after, so no one was offended. Had a slice of Pumpkin and Coconut Custard Pie later and called it Thanksgiving!
  3. I had a similar situation, for me it was because of the placement of the incision. It's right along my waist line, where my pants sit, my seat belts hits and when I'm sitting at my desk it's right there as well. (Yes I’m short ) All of those impingements on the wound caused it to block up and a small nodule formed under the skin which worked its way up and opened at the incision site and drained. All clear Fluid nothing infected but still opened up and stayed that way till it drained. I went right to the doctor when it happened. After it was all said and done that wound took the longest to heal and when it finally did it has left the most obvious scar, not that all of them aren’t this one is just more so.

    Immune….nope Not Me!

Hmm...I am going to have to check into that vaccine for pneumonia. I get a flu vaccine every year, but I think your right there are lots of people giving it away this year. If only I knew where to return it I'd be there yesterday! I have asthma, COPD diagnosis. I'm not around anyone that smokes but even some perfumes and other aerosols can trigger an attack. The winter is the worst for me when it comes to asthma for some reason the cold blast of air constricts my bronchial and that also can trigger an attack. I’ve had all my work ups, and my absorption of nutrients and Vitamins is all on point. I know having COPD I am prone to getting a bronchial infection. I really do try to steer clear of sick people, but living in a bubble is impossible. I get really upset at the people in this office that come to work hacking up a lung and don’t even go to the Dr. They make it worse for someone like me, and doing things like traveling which is great, also takes a toll. sleep study was all clear. I'm getting the sleep, no apnea. Though sometimes stress can keep me more awake then sleeping soundly at night. I have 5 kids...... the older ones (18 and up) can be worse than dealing with a newborn! I was just curious if anyone had any ideas to boost the immune system a bit. I hear all kind of things like garlic, Echinacea then I hear it’s bogus, I was wondering if using whole foods and juicing them might help…. my body needs a little help to heal and recover after this round of infection. I’m out of vacation time, or I’d beg the hubby to take me to Hawaii and see if that is covered under health care reform. “wink”.

    Frustrated

What happens when you try to have a salad or vegetables? Are you getting stuck on them? Before my surgery I was unable to eat these things due to IBS and crones. Since I have had the band placed and plication surgery I have been in heaven able to eat salads and vegies without the horrible intestinal pain I used to have. Digestion has been so much better, being a bit slower through the band and better absorbed. I am at 6cc in a 10cc band and not quite at the "green" yet but maybe .5 away.

    Share Your NSVs Here Please!

Went shopping yesterday, I had to get a few things to hold me over...I tried on size 18 jeans...too big. Tried 16 fit like a glove! Tried on XL sweat pants...too big bought the large, could have bought the medium but I have to fly and want to be comfy. Happy Happy...but hubby is not so happy about all the clothes I'll have to find the time to go through the archives and keep what fits and bag up what doesn't.

    Topic Locked Question

I agree with Hazel, and yet I was thinking that having it up gives a good idea to others who might want to start or add to a flame war a clear understanding that it's not going to be tolerated by the administration of the site. I love this site for all the support and encouragement it gives, when it gets all out of control like that it undermines all the good and people that have value to add shy away from the site. Hopefully we are past that now
  9. Bought size 16 jeans! Down from size 22. Good Monday Morning Feeling!

  10. Keep us in the loop and let us know if this restriction level works for you. I'm at 6cc in a 10cc band right now. I have some restriction but I can and sometimes do eat more then I should be. I was worried about another fill but reading all these posts has put my worry on hold. It's going to take a tweak for me I'm sure at least one more.

    Winter Weight

Oddly enough, my husband is telling me the opposite as all my rings are spinning on my fingers. He said in the winter we shrink..and I guess in the summer time I am a bit more "bloated" then I am in the winter...but I would rather think that I am losing inches and weight and that's why my rings don't fit like they used to

    What do you like?

I am loving life these days! My husband and I are going out and doing so much more. Traveling all over the country, and living it up. I'll have to let you know about the seat belt extenders after our flight to TX, first one since we’ve lost about 50lbs I know we will be SOOO happy not to have to ask for it! Or need it!!!! The thing I love the most is not feeling as exhausted every day the way I used to before. I have more energy now, though some of my co-workers aren't as sure that's a good thing as I am bouncing around quite a bit and singing out loud sometimes but I just can't help it I FEEL GOOD!!!!

    Cold Hands And Feet?

By the weekend here in NY they are talking about the temp going up to the 50's...you know it's a bit cold out there when 50 seems warm. I'm not minding though, keeping my boots on and layering up...the cold is stopping the plague that's going around from spreading. As I type this there are 3 people coughing in surround sound like they have some kind of gross cough machine stuck in their chest. Upping my Vitamin C, Zinc and B12 and hoping they go home and rest!!

    What does PB stand for?

I have had only 1 episode in the last 6+ months and I'm happy to leave it that! I was at home, but after a stressful day and the security tech asking me asinine questions while I was eating I swallowed a piece of pork and boy oh boy it was NOT pretty, but after hearing me get sick in the bathroom he didn't have any more dumb questions!!

Gotta Get This Off My Chest

I'm not peeved. Cheryl is right, it’s not always easy for people to express their intent or feelings in writing on a forum such as this. Sometimes people are in a rush, or ill-tempered at something and most of the time the writing is subjective to that end. We read the writing as subjective putting ourselves in the line of fire even if we are not the intended target. Most people I believe are here to get support and to give support to others. We are all here to share our journey with people of like mind. Even those that jump from forum to forum now with the new site have something to share and something to learn. We have all been overweight at one point and we are all trying to lose weight and get healthy and so many more things as we go about our lives day to day together. I have never been one to flock to sites like this for any reason, but from this site I have learned a lot and tried to share what I have learned in return that works for me.. Everything I post IS subjective because it's coming from my experience in my own life. It might resonate with you or someone else, or maybe it's way off base and someone might tell me hey lady if you lift your head by a millimeter your whole perspective will change, and maybe I need to hit the brick wall first before I can make that change. It’s been known to happen to me J That is why I am here, and why I am still here. Yet you are right there are some people out there that believe they sit above the rest, and that is their issue not yours or mine. We let humpty dumpty sit on the wall and that’s his prerogative, and it’s well known that we can’t put him back together again when he falls. So let them sit there, prattle on about this and that, and I just ignore it. On occasion they have something interesting to contribute and most of the time they are good for a laugh and that’s healthy and healing too. Don’t worry…band together with us and your gonna be A OK.

    Popcorn

I was worried about the popcorn too, but I went to the movies with the hubby and my nieces and I tried it out and it was good. Didn't make me feel stuck or sick after and I shared a small bag with the girls. I love popcorn but it never really loved me back. I used to have issues with it before the band...and thankfully since my digestion has actually improved with the band/plication surgery having some popcorn without residual pain was GREAT!

    Lapband Haters

Reading this forum, does make me wonder though how people go about choosing one method of WLS over the other....when I was going for my band, I went to see a doctor who exclusively does band surgery. That was my preference since I had known a few friends and others who had the by pass and suffered medical issues, and complications including death. Since I have met my doctor the first time, there are now other doctors in the Bariatric Practice of the hospital that perform other WLS such as the sleeve, and by pass. From what I understood from the initial meeting with my doctor was that if I was not a "candidate" for the band I would be referred to the other doctors to see if I might be a candidate for their specialty. Which makes me think that there is some standard of measure that makes someone a candidate for one surgery vs. another other the fact that we are all over weight, and I don't think it is solely based on our preference as it was in my case.....but my assumption could be wrong insofar as I have not heard or understood what the metrics consist of that makes someone a better candidate for the band vs. other WLS. Does anyone know if there is such a thing, or if surgery is undertaken based solely on the preference of the patient? Apologies if I’m rambling…I hope this made sense it’s been a rough day J

    Need My Game Face On...

Right now you are feeling as if your going to the elecric chair. Like you will never have another piece of cake or eat a cookie again. It's a head game we play with ourselves, but it's not true. Once you clear all the obsticals after surgery and you move to solid foods again, you will be able to eat anything you want to. The magic is.....that you may not want to! The mental and emotional reasons we eat and sabbotage ourselves on "diets" will be there until we are ready to face them, deal with them and put them into perspective in our lives. The band won't help that, but it will be an awesome tool to help you move through the phases you need to go through to work those issues out. The band takes 100% commitment, and if you are willing to give it 100% it will return the favor and be there for you 100%. So you can let yourself off the hook. You are not walking the green mile to the place where there are no longer Cookies and cake, you are moving you way to the green zone, where cookies and cake are only visitors for specail holidays and occasions where a bite of them is good enough until the next occasion which is months away. I'm a sweetie I love my sweets, yet I have been sitting behind this whole glass bowl of all kinds of favorite Halloween candy...chocolate, pure sugar nerds starbursts you name it ti's in there, and I can proudly say I have not touched not even ONE single piece of any of it. I can honestly tell you that I have NO desire for it. When I am hungry I eat, I choose food that is good for me with Protein in it and I tell myself to appease my visual and head hunger that if you want it Lisa then have it...and the reply is...nope I"m good thanks. Be kind to yourself and know that you can do this, and the band is an amazing tool that is there to help you as YOU work your way through learning how to use the band, and how to face those cookie monsters and clear them away once and for all. For me the band is not a race, it's a life long journey. I'm not looking to post huge numbers of weight lost in 6 months, I'm looking to share realistic numbers of weight gone forever never to return over the course of the rest of my life. I know I didn't gain this 100+ pounds in 6 months it took me 23 years, and if it takes me 2 years to lose it all that's a BIG WIN in my book!! Best of luck to you, and always come back to the group here there are many with good advice and support. It really helps me!!

    Unfill Question

I too am having a similar issue Mandy. I think I need just a touch more of a fill to be in that zone. I'm holding off until after my trip the end of this month. It seems that green zone is a delicate balance. Perhaps any swelling you had when you got the first fill has now gone down and that's leaving you a little more room in the stoma. Let me know how it goes if you decide to put in a dash more or decide to stay where you are. I'm dancing around that green zone but haven't stepped on the target just yet
