Pre-Op Appointment - What should I Expect?
PrettyThick1 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op appointment will likely be next week and I was wondering what should I expect? I've done several tests already - blood work, EKG, respiratory fitness test and psych evaluation. What should I expect to happen at my pre-op appointment? I am being banded in Houston by Dr. Reilly and would like to hear specificially from any of his patience - but look forward to all replies! -

What to expect for psy evaluation
PrettyThick1 replied to battychica99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The psych evaluation is easy breezy. Just a questionnaire with 344 redundant questions, a chit chat with the psychologist and you're on your way. They billed my insurance $1085.00 - I think I'm in the wrong business...she racked up that day, there were 5 other people there for the same reason. If she has that volume every day, my God...I need to change careers. -
Looking for a Houston, texas group

Is there a reason why you can't have your surgery in Houston? Your friend isn't a real friend, by the way. -

That's awesome! How was it? When did you get to meet him for the first time? Did you go through True Results? My insurance approved me on Monday, but I don't know how long it will take for TR to get it and schedule the surgery. How long was that process for you? I was hoping to have it done next Friday - the 17th...is that realistic??? I'm glad we have connected - with our surgeries so close together, we can be great support for each other! Gwen -

Getting frustrated!
PrettyThick1 replied to stephanie0456's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You never know why you are experiencing delays, if you are spiritual, you need to consider your timing is not God's timing. If you had the surgery on the original date, you could have gotten into a car accident on the way or gotten a defective band. You just never know, but you have to trust it and just go along with the process as it comes. I was overly anxious, but the truth of the matter is you need time to go through all of the emotions associated with this life changing procedure. Trust me...there are psychological phases you will go through and I believe they are a necessary part of the process. I haven't had much time to adapt - my initial consult was on April 11, 2013 and I'm scheduled for May 17 or 24th. I wanted it done quickly, but just a few days ago I started a new phase "am I doing the right thing?" Today - I believe so! -
Sugery May 24th & second guessing myself
PrettyThick1 replied to URSULAQ1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did...sometimes still do. My friends, coworkers and loved ones say the same thing to me - I don't need the surgery. Well folks, I'm fat on the inside and now I have diabetes. It's not about vanity, it's about living a better quality of life. -

Geez, I thought you were sharing good news! Sorry about that, and I hope it's not too bad.

I like Governor Christy...you'd never catch Rick "Pretty Ricky" Perry making such a personal confession. I'm voting for him if he runs for President. I'm in Houston...being banded through True Results this month.

Governor Christy for President!

Here goes...I might be having second thoughts about getting my band. Whereas I once obsessed over the length of time it would take to get the surgery, I now look at it as a blessing because of the different emotions you experience leading up to the big day. I'm probably rewriting many people's story here, but this is my version and I think feedback from some of the Evangelists and Aspiring Evangelists might help me through this phase. Everyone I tell has the same response - You don't need that, you aren't very overweight. The truth of the matter is that I'm what my elders would refer to as "solid". I weigh much more than my appearance says I do - most of that has to do with the way I choose or sew my clothing. What's more is that I was recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, I snore like a bear and my upper body is out of proportion to my lower body. I've lost weight before, but never enough to get rid of my upper body problems. I'm starting to think about trying diet and exercise - again, but deep down I know what I need to do. I'm so worried about giving up some of the things I love - right now, it's the occasional coca-cola, fried catfish, fajitas and flour tortillas. I know that I shouldn't ever have these things anyway, but I am worried about the cravings I'll have for them and feel very sad thinking that I can't even splurge on them sometimes. Any advice is welcomed.

Just called BCBS to get the status of my surgery claim and it has been approved! This is mind blowing, I started the process on April 11, 2013 - expected this to be a 3-6 month process, easy. BCBS received my paperwork from True Results on Friday and had an answer for me today - Monday! Considering business hours, I really don't think it took them 24 hours for an answer. It just got real.

Any smokers prior to surgery?
PrettyThick1 replied to KH24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you don't want to wait, go to Walgreens or WalMart, Walgreens has the $9.99 (Blue e-cig - at the register)single as well as the starter pack for $59.99. -

PrettyThick1 replied to KH24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've tried chantix, hypnosis, gum, Patches and cold turkey. Right now, it's the e-cigs that help more than anything I've tried before. Even with 0% nicotene, I've been very successful. -
Very upset and scared I will not get approved!
