What the band did for me
PrettyThick1 replied to Joel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just looked at your before and after photos and I am in awe. YOU ARE SMOKIN' HOT NOW!!!!!!!! I'm so serious...you are yummier than the bad food I use to eat!!!! Ooooo weeeeeee!!! Thanks for your uplifting post, you have made my day! -
The wait continues
PrettyThick1 replied to LapbandLo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been there and yes it sucks - big time! But there is a reason for everything, so you must take it in stride. The time will go faster than you think and before you know it, you'll be at day 1 after your surgery moaning "what the HE- - did I do to myself!" LOL Day 1 is the worst - after your first week you'll be VERY happy about your decision. -
Why does it hurt to eat in the mornings?

I will not likely get another fill on my next appointment though. That would be asking for serious trouble. -
Why does it hurt to eat in the mornings?
PrettyThick1 replied to goal_will_be_met's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm like that, too. I can't eat a thing and sometimes it's hard to even choke down a Protein shake. I deal with it by having a cup of coffee and a protein shot, then I have something to eat after 12 noon. I think I'm a bit tight, too but I don't want an unfill because the weight is coming off well and I don't seem to have any other adverse effects. -
I am also a True Results Houston patient!!! I have BCBS and they took a whopping 2 days to approve me. You can find out faster by calling them directly, since TR doesn't know until they get the letter in the mail - which will take about a week to happen. After I was approved the soonest they could get me in was 3 weeks later, because my surgeon (Dr. Christopher Reilly) was going on a 2 week vacation! It felt like an eternity, but it flew by so quickly! So I would say you will go for your preop appointment in another week or so and you should have your surgry by mid August at the latest. Good luck...keep us posted!!!

What Did I Get Myself Into?
PrettyThick1 replied to LittleGirlBlue's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Not so glum chum...this is the tough part and we know that this too shall pass. You're going to look and feel amazing very soon!!! Your family and coworkers understand that you aren't a slacker, there are times when we have to do what will make us happy - you've done that, now let's just look forward to the end result! -
Sooooo now...

Noticing the frequency of your fills...was that doctor recommended??? It seems a bit aggressive. I'm only scheduled for fills once a month. -
Yes, you are nearing your time for a fill - 3 weeks is optimal. Don't worry about the slower weight loss, that happened to me but after a few days and a fill it kicked back in. Try to get a few more calories in, I think it makes a difference if you get at least 1000.
-
My doctor had me schedule my first fill the day after surgery and it was 3 weeks to the day of my procedure. I think he nailed the timing because it was at that stage that I started feeling hunger again. What's more is that my weight is on a steady decline (3+ lbs. per week) and I can only think that getting the fill at the right time had a lot to do with it.
-
Small victory - I'm noticing the inches are reducing even faster than the pounds are and in light of that, I've raised my goal weight by 15lbs. I don't need to lose as much as I thought I did and looking at my new ticker has me very excited...I'm getting there faster than I expected. When I tell people how much further I have to go their reaction was .."Oh nooooo, you don't need to lose that much more" and I think I agree with them. I'm not in a skinny girl frame of mind and as long as I have a close to normal BMI, I'm going to be satisfied. So...here's to 37 more lbs, may they melt away as fast as the first 27 did!

Complete Lap Band Failure & Then Success

I'd rather not follow a diet whose creator is dead because he followed his own plan. High fat? Who does that?!? -
Lumpy near port incision. Normal?
PrettyThick1 replied to BringingSexyBackToTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, all of that is normal. I am 5 weeks out and it is still a bit hard there. Depending on how heavy you were, you may or may not feel your port. It is nothing to be concerned about as long as there is no rash or drainage coming from the incision, you shouldn't worry. -

Go for my Very First Fill tomorrow!!!!
PrettyThick1 replied to fashionstylist's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you should have any solids for a few days. The first couple of days should be liquids only, then mushies on day 3. Be careful in the days to come, I made that mistake and I almost messed myself up. The day of the fill isn't bad, but be careful... -
so scared help me
PrettyThick1 replied to myshine84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl you have nothing to worry about. I've had surgery a few times and the best part of it is being put to sleep! La-la land is no place to fear, at all...I like it. LOL It's easy to see how Michael Jackson became addicted to it, seriously. Now, happy thoughts...enjoy the process because when you get home and the hospital drugs wear off, you'll wish you had more. True or False? PB'ing & Vomiting within 6 Weeks of Banding
PrettyThick1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just read somewhere that if you PB or vomit within 6 weeks of your surgery, your band will slip. I don't think I've vomited because whatever I spit up didn't feel like it went all the way down. Please share what you can about PB'ing and Vomiting - I don't know how to tell the difference. And...if doing either of those will cause a slip within the first 6 weeks. Thank you!!! -
If your band has slipped, how did you know?
-
How does it feel when you vomit? Describe a PB.

How do you know the difference between PB'ing and vomiting? -
Why do they say not to drink with your meal and to wait 30 minutes after your meal?
PrettyThick1 replied to BringingSexyBackToTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, thanks for asking! I feel much better today and have been able to eat a normal amount without any adverse effects!!! I'm eating much more slowly and definitely not drinking before or during a meal. Maybe my last fill just needed to settle down. But it is definitely better than yesterday!!! -
Well, I've decided to get an unfill. I just tried to drink a Protein shake and it's not happening. I hate to do this because I'm worried it's going to set me back and I'll be hungry all the time again. I'm so disappointed, I need restriction or else I'm going to put the weight back on. I tried to ride it out, but I'm miserable. If you've had to get an unfill, did it set you back? I'm so sad.

I think I'm in trouble...too tight?
PrettyThick1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think my band might be too full. I can hardly keep anything down and I spit up just about everything. How long can this go on without me causing a slip? It's more of a PB with lots of slime, it doesn't feel like it's quite going down so I don't think that's a vomit. Plus it always happens with the first 2 or 3 bites of food. I'm going strictly liquids for a while, but I'm so sick of Protein shakes I almost gag when I start to drink them. Any advice will be appreciated. I don't want to get unfilled, because I'll go back to being hungry all the time again. Please help! -
Going in for an unfill ; (
PrettyThick1 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your replies! My protein shake is going down well now. I think I may have been drinking too fast, drinking too soon before meals and I know I sip during meals - all 3 are big no-no's. So I'm going to follow doctor's orders and ride this thing out! -
Survey: How many cc's did you get in your first fill?
PrettyThick1 replied to beanie80's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded with 3cc's and had another 1cc added 3 weeks after surgery. I felt no restriction and was hungry after that and my doctor added another .5. That's when the problems started - but I know what's wrong. I'm drinking too soon before a meal and sometimes during a meal. I'm going to do right though, I don't want to hurt myself or get unfilled yet. No drinking while eating...I'm learning that really quickly and it's not just because it washes the food down too quickly! -

PrettyThick1 replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi CG: I made an appointment for an unfill just a few minutes ago. But now that I think about it, I have been drinking Water too soon before a meal and sometimes I've been drinking while eating. I'm going to try to do things the right way for a few days and see what happens. I'm doing well with my Protein shake today and if I have to go strictly liquids for a few weeks that's what I'll do. I'll keep you posted.
