    Walking Isnt Enough

I was sleeved on March 25, 2013. So far I have lost 45 pounds. I am very happy with it so far and hope to lose another 55 to reach my ultimate goal. I went to see my surgeon for my three month check up. He was happy with my loss but very disappointed in my exercise. I told him I was going for 60-90 minute walks about 4-5 times a week. He said, "Walking is activity, it is not exercise. You need to get your heart rate up higher." Ok, fine. He is right, I know. But ever since he said that I feel as if walking just isn't good enough and I gave up completely doing it. Now I do nothing. Its like if its not good enough then why even try. I feel guilty and ashamed of myself but its almost as if why do it if it doesn't count. I cant get myself to workout in the gym, despite a high monthly fee and prepaid personal training sessions. I just lack any motivation now. How do you get back on track? What worked for you? What kind of exercise do you do? I need a swift kick in the rear I think!! I want to tone up but Im afraid of failing. Im afraid of being sore. Hell, I may even be afraid of succeeding.
  3. This may sound crazy but I'm scared to succeed. I want to be thin and healthy and toned. I know I need to exercise to achieve that. But all I can do is think about it. I can't actually make myself go to the gym and workout. I'm scared ill fail. I'm scared I will succeed. I'm scared to look good. Im so used to hiding under all this fat. It's been my comfortable place for so long. Now I'm 40 pounds down and getting lots of attention. Which I do want. I want to be thin and toned so bad. But I lack any motivation to start a workout program. Im also scared lifting weights will make the scale move up. Im scared of being sore. Of looking foolish in front of others. I'm scared ill become obsessed and bore people with talk of the gym and calories and all that (like my fiancé who became so obsessed with fitness we broke up over it) plus im so used to men being mean to me about my weight. I have a strong history of being not good enough because of my weight and taking in mean comments about it from boyfriends. maybe im just scarred. sigh I even bought new dresses in a smaller size and I'm scared to wear them because I'm scared someone will tell me I look foolish in it. Has anyone else felt this way? How do you find your motivation? Did you see good results once you started working out? Anything you could tell me would help! Thanks!!! PS. I walk my dog for 60 mins a few times a week but my surgeon told me that is not exercise that is activity and I need more vigorous heart raising activity.

    Consequences of no protein

My surgery was March 25, 2013. I've lost 40 lbs so far. 60 lbs more to go ideally.
  5. To be honest I am not meeting my protein goals. Not even close. Maybe at around 30-40 grams a day. But the weight is coming off slow, like 1-2 pounds a week, so I just try to eat healthy and don't worry about the protein lacking. Am I hurting myself? Would the weight lost be faster? I'm scared to eat more! Why do we need so much protein? Would love your advice, explanation, personal experiences. Thanks
  6. I went in for my 6 week checkup. My dr was disappointed I had only lost 20 pounds. I told him I was eating around 500-800 calories a day. He said eat more! Up to 1200 cal a day. That seems so counter intuitive doesn't it. Because for years I ate 1200 and exercised and lost nothing. So how is doing the same going to cause weight loss now? Please tell me your story and any science you understand about how it will work please?? Thank you so much!

    dumping syndrome

I thought it couldn't happen with the sleeve. Boy was I wrong! One gram of sugar and I'm in the bathroom immediately. Worst case of diareaha Ever and it happens instantely. it is horrible. I would have gone with the bypass had I known they both can cause dumping syndrome. Oh we'll. have to work with what I got now.

    Weight gain?

The surgery went well with no complications. The first two weeks I lost one pound a day. Week three I lost nothing. And now in week four I am gaining weight!!! I am so sad and disappointed and scared I altered my whole life for nothing. Im still earing mostly soft food and liquids and walking at least 30 min a day. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone else experienced weight gain after surgery??? I'm dying to know of I'm the only one and what can be done or do I need to contact my doctor? Omg so disappointed!!!
  9. Getting ready for surgery and wondering about dumping mostly. I understand that sugar can cause it. But what about fruit that has natural sugar in it? Does that trigger it for you? And what about the protein shakes we are supposed to drink? I'm sure they have sugar. Does peanut butter do it too? Please let me know what you have found surprising that you dump on and also maybe what has surprised you that you can eat and not dump. Thanks!!!!!
  10. I'm getting very close to my surgery date. But still having a few doubts. I'm very worried I'll be the one with complications or problems and since I'm paying out of pocket it's a big risk. Just kind of wondering about your experience. What is the best thing? What has been the worst? Did you need additional surgeries or have complications? How has dumping syndrome affected you? Would you do it all over again?? Please share! And thank you for your support and help. I really have enjoyed these forums. You are all so nice and helpful. God bless. ---Megan.
  11. I starting gaining weight years ago and found out it was being caused by hypothyroidism. I am on snythroid. However losing weight on my own is impossible. Despite an almost perfect diet and hours and hours at the gym I can not lose weight. It is very discouraging. I am scheduled for roux en y surgery in march. I am a self pay patient and have over 100 pounds to lose. My question is though.... Is it possible to lose weight with gastric bypass if you have hypothyroidism? I don't want to spend $22k and endure dumping and such if I am destined to be overweight because of the thyroid problem. Please please tell me how it worked or didn't work for you? Thanks so much!!!
