Liquid won't make you feel full.

Good luck Brendan! I'm home. Did the dishes and went for a walk for 15 minutes. Now resting and having Water with cordial. I feel fine. I found out today that the surgeon repaired my hernia at the same time as the sleeve.

Anyone not struggled with weight their whole life?
mistysj replied to nervousnellie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No, but I thought I was and was told by my parents I was. I was always bigger than my peers. In high school I was around 120 lbs. I'm 4'11". I was very active in matching band and track. My parents always restricted my food. I went to college and the brakes came off. I was 175 by the end of my freshman year. I graduated around 200 lbs. my highest adult weight was 225. My surgery weight was 98 kg which I think is around 215 lbs (I'm in Australia now). The lowest I have been as an adult was around 155 lbs when I lost 75 lbs on Weight Watchers in 2002. I was just on the cusp of overweight, wearing a tight 14. -
Anyone Have A Relatively Easy Recovery Story?
mistysj replied to Birdy18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was super easy. No pain meds after the morphine in recovery. Sips of Water for 24 hours. Leak test was fine then full liquids. I was able to have about 4 ounces at my first meal. No nausea. Heat pack for shoulder pain. Two nights in hospital and I go home this morning. Oh and it looks like my diabetes is in remission already. My readings are under 5 mmol/l consistently. No more metformin for me! Update: it has now been 8 days and I have yet to have an issue. I have gotten my water and Protein in each day. I have walked at least 10000 steps each day. I have not had much pain and have only taken Tylenol. I haven't felt hungry or tired. I haven't thrown up or had any nausea. I do have loose stools once a day but that is pretty normal for a liquid diet. I begin purée next Tuesday and this should improve. I go back to work Monday, but I have done a bit of work from home so I don't feel overwhelmed when I go back. Also my blood sugar has stayed at 4.9 mmol/l (about 88 mg/dl). I haven't taken metformin since the day before surgery. Update: it has been two weeks. Today was my first day back at work and tomorrow I start purée foods. No road blocks yet. Tomorrow I have my second weigh in. I feel so fortunate that I didn't have any complications or really any pain at all. Physically, this surgery was easier than my hysterectomy and tons easier than my ACL reconstruction! And easier than carpal tunnel surgery because the weight lifting restriction is not as stringent. I actually feel ready to kic my exercise up a teensy bit and may start doing a few squats and lunges and see how I feel. I also had my two week follow up with the surgeon and he said that all the incisions are healing great! Update: coming up to the end of my fourth week and I have had zero trouble. I'm about to transition to soft foods and I've lost 16 pounds and I'm about to dip into the 100s. I think my easy recovery is absolutely the norm. I hope this encourages people. -
To make sure my bites are small enough I just dip the spoon tip and that's my bite. Or liquids its just a tint sip at a time. I haven't had much yet, only one meal that wasn't water.

Great I will find it!
-
Blood sugar 4.9. That's a non-diabetic number, folks!
-
No I'm going home in the morning so I should be right. I might just ask for an up and go or some milk for brekkie. I have lots of suitable things at home.

You are doing so well, Dean! Your doctor must be happy as well. As for me, I had my first unpleasant side effect. A bout of he runs after dinner. But this too shall pass. I'm a little worried because the Soup had some small bits in it and the custard was thick so I didn't have much of either. The only hing that felt ok was the yogurt. I was dipping the spoon in and licking a tiny bit off at a time. I managed to get about 2/3 of the container down. I don't feel very stuffed but maybe that's because it's liquid.
-
First meal! I will only be able to have a few tastes. The nurse had to take some things away. Jelly and ice cream.
-
My blood sugar has dropped from 7.7 to 5.2! It looks like the metformin might already be in my past.
-
No leaks and I'm in the clear. No more IV, I was able to have a shower, and I will be able to start on full liquids! I had a bit of stomach pain during the leak test but nothing since. Panadol is doing the job. I can swallow capsules no problem. I'm on nexium too.
-
I just had the leak test. They had to do it twice because the doctor wasn't sure about it. I don't know for sure the results but the X-ray tech said it looked fine to him. I had to drink this clear liquorice flavoured stuff. I've had worse. If the results are good I can get off the IV and try some liquids besides Water.

I hope all went well!

Same principles. It also speaks of the benefits of using the lesser curvature. -

I go in in half an hour. I'm thrilled! I saw your post about being scared and I'm sorry you are feeling that way, but you'll be sleeved before you know it and this will all be a distant memory.
