It can come from the drink they give you for the leak test too. I'm 9 days post-op and it still happens to me once a day. It's normal. This too shall pass (slower and more solidly).

Sleeved May 15 and Regretting it
mistysj replied to RainbowBrite26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It might help if you don't put yourself in a place where you are surrounded by things you can't have and smell so strong! Can you go to the library to study instead? -

How to start loving your workout! (Or anything you hate to do)
mistysj posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
This article is great! http://feedly.com/k/Z0Ds2w I already do this to a degree. I love listening to audiobooks and I only do it on my commute and when I'm out walking. I think maybe I need to limit it to just walking, and sweeten the reward even more! -
I'm back to my old eating habits ;-(

Can you think back and remember why you wanted the surgery! What were your goals, dreams, plans? What are your NSVs so far? How do you reward yourself? Maybe think really short term and each time you eat on plan or exercise, give yourself a small reward like buy an app for your phone or a track on iTunes. Also maybe you can make a list of pros and cons about eating back on track vs staying the same. I find that if I write it down, it is more powerful for me. You took an awesome first step by coming here to get support! Bravo! -

Post-Op Day 5: Worried I feel too normal!
mistysj replied to crosseyedtango's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I know what you mean. I have not had any pain either. I have a hard time sipping slowly enough. I was told that it takes a while for the nerves in your stomach to recover. Remember the open part of your stomach is still the size of a coffee stirrer. Also it was explained to me that pills can push their way through because they are hard, but that soft or sticky things can just get really stuck and plug you up. -

The best form of protien intake
mistysj replied to SHORTDOG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Animals protein (including dairy) and soy are "complete". That means they have all of the amino acids you need. Other veg proteins are incomplete but you will be fine as long as you eat a variety. Collagen (which is in those protein "shots") is the lowest quality. -

HELP! Pain & Discomfort After Hot Dog 5 Days Post OP

I wasn't self-righteous at all. Maybe you used the wrong word. What I was doing is sharing a story about how once you put it in your mouth, you have a biological urge to swallow. I was encouraging the OP not to put anything in their mouth that isn't on their plan. I was also thinking about the position the OP put her spouse in, and how awful he would feel if she had done damage. Thank goodness she didn't. The OP got a lot of support in the thread. I was giving support of a different kind. I don't see what there is to get offended about. -

Surgery yesterday and...

Gas-x won't help because the gas isn't in your intestines. Walking and a heating pad on your shoulder, and you will just have to tough it out. Mine is nearly gone, 8 days post-op. I only feel it when I get up in the morning now. -

I've been watching this TDEE stuff with interest but I have only one concern. It seems like I remember that too much protein is really hard on the kidneys. Any comment on that? -
HELP! Pain & Discomfort After Hot Dog 5 Days Post OP

My dietitian just went over the purée phase with me because I start it next week. He recounted to me a story of another one of his patients. This man was sitting with his family while they ate roasted chicken. He was still in the full liquid phase. He was overcome by a craving for the chicken. He rationalized to himself that he would chew it and savor the flavor, then spit it out. He really meant to spit it out. But he could not control his swallow reflex and before he knew it, he had swallowed it! He called the dietitian in such a panic because he thought he was going to die. On the phone he stressed himself out so much that it came back up! My dietitian shares this with me because this swallow reflex is part of our "lizard brain". This is not part of our human self, but our animal self. You absolutely can't put something in your mouth that is not on your plan, because when it is in there, all bets are off. You need to decide you will never tempt yourself like that, and that you will NEVER put your poor husband in the position where he is doing something for you that will harm you and could put you in the hospital. That poor man must be beside himself. You owe him a big apology. Put your big girl pants on and learn from this. If you want something salty, have some broth. -
My husband Snacks all the time too. He is not skinny but his BMI is around 28 and has been the whole time. I think he has gone from a 32 to a 35 pants in the 14 years we have been together. I think it's because men just have more muscle. It's really hard for women to build muscle mass. That's why we can't bulk up without working really hard and taking supplements. And have you noticed how much body heat men give off when they sleep? They are lying there just burning calories. It's just biology. But life isn't fair and we have to follow our own journey so we can't focus on that. Is he eating junk because he doesn't know how to cook? Maybe you could make him a big pot of chili or something like that, so it will be there and he can eat it instead. Or send him to a cooking class. He would feel better eating healthy even if he is losing weight. I'm lucky my husband is a great cook. Or maybe you can appeal to the cost. All that crap must cost a lot of money. Is cheaper to cook your own healthy meals

142 pounds gone feeling amazing !

You are really a cutie! It's amazing how young you look. I'm 35 and still get ID'd for alcohol even in Australia where the drinking age is 18. I hope I don't look younger as I lose weight LOL -
I remember how excited that made me! Congratulations. You will still have some extra costs. Just so you aren't surprised: - anesthetist - blood test before surgery - swallow test after surgery - any meds you have prescribed to you in hospital to take home When do you do the pre-admit for the hospital?

Not an emotional eater but I just LOVE food. worried.
mistysj replied to OnlyDownFromHere's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It doesn't matter why you ate. After surgery you will still be able to enjoy all the foods you love. The trick is you will be able to enjoy it and still stop when you have had enough. You won't feel the compulsion to have more and more. That compulsion you feel now is not just being a foodie. Notice how many food critics are lean. They can enjoy and appreciate wonderful food without losing self control or perspective. You will be able to do that too. I think you may be surprised at the emotional issues that will come up after this surgery. The beauty is that you will be able to take them on. Your stomach will no longer be dragging you around on a leash. -

Bec I'm glad you are doing well. If you start to struggle, we will cheer you on! I found out something re the Optislim shakes. I had not really been measuring the Water. Remember I was on Optifast for a year. I hated the shakes so I would make them up as thick as I could stand so they would go down faster. Well, ow I can't have thick stuff and I can't drink fast no matter what. So I thought I was making them up properly because it was thinner than the optifast. Well yesterday I actually measured out the water and it was quite a bit more than I had been using. The powder dissolved completely and the shake was more like chocolate milk, and a lot easier to take. Lesson learned. Also, my dietitian told me to stop the Benefiber and only start it again when I had a few days diarrhea-free. He said right now it would just make it worse. I was kind of thinking it would help fix things so I have been taking it religiously. Oops. Always learning! We also talked about the purée stage, which I can start next Tuesday. I am to eat 6 times a day, 1/2 cup each time. Breakfast can be porridge made up with milk. All the other meals need to be a purée with the following proportions: half meat, half other stuff, with enough sauce to make a nice purée with no chunks that I can eat with a fork. He said don't worry about the calories. I can use creamy sauces or cheese, as well as other types. He recommends I make up 3-4 things that taste totally different and freeze them in half-cup serves. He said I should be aiming for at least 100g of proper meat (as opposed to Protein grams) over the course of a day. I am still to drink one shake a day, not as a Meal Replacement but as a drink between meals. It should take me an hour to drink a cup of Fluid. That means I have to really slow down. Right now it takes about 40 minutes, less if I'm thirsty.
