Update ! W/ sexy pics duhh :)

You were super cute before but hot now! -
You will get those filled when you are at the hospital. Don't worry about it. I have been researching Multivitamins to make sure I have good ones. Australia has a lot less variety than the US. The best I have found that are available in Australia is the Blackmores sustained release with antioxidants. You only need one a day and it even has all your Iron. And the Blackmores Total Bone Health uses Calcium citrate which is the best calcium for bariatric patients and has 600 mg so you only need 2 a day. Just remember not to take calcium and iron together because they cancel each other out. I take one calcium with Breakfast, one with lunch, and the Multivitamin before bed. Otherwise the iron makes me queasy. Working so far! The calcium I was using before I had to take two pills at a time and they were big.

It matters to pre-ops who haven't made their decision yet. It is not a decision to be made lightly.

It replaced a morning snack which would have had less protein and more carbs before. But I am now trying to skip that morning snack because I am not really hungry then. It was just an attempt to get in enough protein. But I will see how I go with skipping it and either not having the shake or having it for breakfast. My shake has 30 grams of protein, 170 calories and 9.2 grams of carbs, only 6 of which are sugars.

Time management & motivation Challenge.

Get a couple of shakers and put your protein powder in them in the morning. Grab a bottle of water and shake. Also focus on other portable snacks. Take up walking to get from point A to B and get your exercise in at the same time. Good luck! -
I think that society as a whole has accepted higher weights as "normal" for normal folks (as opposed to models and movie stars) so a healthy weight can look too thin to our friends and family. It also probably makes them compare their own bodies to yours and they realize that they also could stand to lose a few. I think it leads to some mild discomfort and doesn't necessarily have anything to do with your own health or appearance.

High Blood Sugar AM
mistysj replied to JeanaLuvsKisses's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
High levels at any time indicate damage being done to your tissues. I applaud you for being proactive and not just accepting that it is ok. Some people need to eat something before bed to control those fasting glucose levels. There is a great website / forum for diabetics called http://tudiabetes.com where you might find more advice for lowering the morning blood glucose. If you are using insulin you might need to use a different type of insulin before bed than you do before your meals. I'd also consider talking to your endo or diabetic educator because your GP might not be up on all the information specific to diabetes. -
Be aware of a condition called bile acid diarrhea which can occur after gall bladder removal. If you start having diarrhea every day, ask your doctor about Questran. I suffered for 7 months before I got a proper diagnosis and sweet relief. I am back to being a once a day girl.

Since you say you have a dietitian, why not ask?

1 to 3 tsp instant coffee granules (use decaf if your plan requires it) Amount of cold water and protein powder to make up your shake, or a ready-to-drink shake Dissolve the coffee in a small amount of the water. Add the rest of the water and the protein powder and shake! Add ice if you prefer. Add a little more water if you want it thinner. Chocolate protein powder for a mocha, vanilla for a latte. You won't need a sweetener because the protein shake is already sweet.

No problem. Clumpy protein is so nasty to me and I prefer my hot coffee black with no sugar. But iced coffee is a nice treat!

It's pretty easy to have mostly the sauce / topping with just a bit of pasta or rice. The good news is the sauce will most likely be in the "soft food" category and really easy to handle, whether it is pasta sauce, stir fry or other Asian food, chili, Salisbury steak, stroganoff etc. just choose the lower calorie options and be careful of too much fat which can cause dumping. With the pasta you will probably want it have just 2-3 noodles and with the rice just a small spoonful and have just a couple grains with each bite. Otherwise you will not fit much of the protein. You might end up like me and realize you prefer the toppings to the starch! I think a lot of our parents and grandparents used starch to "stretch" the food and make it go further. We don't need to worry about that post-WLS.

I went through my closet again and weeded out more things that were too big. I also tried on two tops and a pair of jeans that were too small last time. The tops both fit fine now and the jeans are just a bit too snug around the waist. I doubt I will ever wear them because they are already too big in the legs. They are a funny cut and I'm a funny shape. So this is basically it for closet shopping and everything smaller will have to be new now! Kind of a weird feeling. Also a weird feeling to be wearing some size 10s.

Food is Easier but Sex is better when in Need of Emotional Comfort
mistysj replied to Mary Jo Rapini's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Also, nobody every got pregnant from eating a donut. This philosophy of sex instead of food could lead too all kinds of scary outcomes and could actually become a transfer addiction. Sorry but the more I think about it, the more dangerous the advice seems. -
Well really your doctor should be giving you more guidance or pointing you to someone who can. You have a unique situation. It's not appropriate to just take advice from the Internet.

You had surgery 5 months ago and you are still on purée? You should speak to your surgeon or dietitian.

Food is Easier but Sex is better when in Need of Emotional Comfort
mistysj replied to Mary Jo Rapini's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Yes it's a great article but might leave singles or people in bad marriages feeling like they have no recourse. If you are in these situations you can find solutions to your isolation too but it might take a lot of work and possibly some therapy. I know firsthand that loneliness can lead to all kinds of risky behaviors. -
How long did you crush your meds post op?
mistysj replied to Tlambsleever's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Me too but no pill skipping was required. I was given medications in the hospital that were pills. -
There are some quinoa recipes in the Regular Foods and the Vegetarian section of the Recipe Sharing section of this very forum. You can also use the search feature of the app or website to find more.

Has weight loss surgery made you rethink your career?
mistysj posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm curious if having bariatric surgery has caused you to rethink your career. Have you changed careers or decided to change careers? Has anyone specifically changed to a career in a field related to Bariatrics, such as dietetics or nutrition science or nursing? -
Anybody else freaked out by the idea of never being able to enjoy carbs again?
mistysj replied to nolagirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will try it at some point and it won't taste like you remembered and you will feel like crap for hours and you won't crave it as much after that. You guys, you can have anything you want, most of it by two months post-op. There is no never-again unless it's by choice. You probably won't want much of whatever it is because the foods on your plan will make you feel so much better and the carb monster will go away if you don't feed it. It's sweet relief not to have that monkey on my back. I just tell myself "I can have that later if I want it." It's true. They are not going to stop making pizza or Cookies. How addicted was I if I had considered staying obese so I could keep eating pizza all the time? Pizza or cake or pasta all the time are not worth years I can spend with my family. Please have some perspective. -
Purée should be the consistency of mashed potatoes. I found 1/3 cup to be the max I could hold. Check out the Food and Nutrition forum for lots of recipes for every diet phase including purée.

I'm sorry I will have to miss this one.
