It's so easy to get discouraged

Just think how much you will benefit with every 10 pounds lost. Think of a 50 pound sack of flour. No matter what, you will unload several of those from your body. Who cares about the number you finally arrive at. It will be better than the status quo, right? That's what I am telling myself. Thank you so much for sharing with us. I can't wait to see how you are doing in 3 months, 6 months, a year.
  2. How are you doing, Bec? Your surgery is tomorrow, right?
  3. I probably don't weigh the most but I do have the highest BMI. I can't wait for that to change!
  4. I'm in Australia and I weigh in kilograms. I have to convert my weight in order to use the VST ticker. I'd love to have one that showed kilograms, or even better would be one that somehow showed both, without being cluttered. There is a very large non-US community on VST.

    Fad Diets

I forgot to mention all the "book diets" like the Zone, Sugar Busters, PCOS Diet, Blood Type Diet! And I tried a 40 day fast. Lasted 1.5 days LOL. And the Weigh Down Workshop which was a Christian one. And Intuitive Eating. There is a diet I didn't do based on a bible verse. In Daniel?
  7. I'm glad you are doing well and I apologize for the tone of my comments. I was really just very worried that you had hurt yourself. Thank you for following up and what your nutritionist sent you is perfect advice for me to listen to as well.

    Puree Stage - Recipe/ideas

Thank you! I shared some ideas in the recipe swap section. I also ate hummus today, and mashed banana with 1 tbsp Peanut Butter, and palak paneer which is an Indian curry with spinach and an Indian cheese called paneer. I puréed it in the food processor and it was awesome. Spicy and only around 100 calories for 1/2 cup. I have had a bit of shredded cheese but not chunks of cheese. I have not had any tummy trouble at all but I am being pretty cautious about texture. And trying to choose high Protein and low fat most of the time.

    Fad Diets

Fit for Life food combining diet. You only eat raw fruit in the morning and never with anything else. Never cook fruit. I can't remember all the other combinations. And the cookie diet! And Herbalife, where you drink these disgusting shakes and take about 10 pills a day.

    Ready for a change

Welcome to VST! I hope you find lots of info and support here.
  12. For me there was still a faint twinge even 10 days post-op. it's gone now. Heating pad works very well, as does walking. Plus walking will help all of the anesthesia leave your system and get your body's systems moving. And protect you from blood clots, hopefully.

Why Are Tea/coffee Taboo Post Surgery ?

They are not forbidden by every surgeon. But you should follow your surgeon's advice. You chose them for a reason. I could have coffee as soon as I passed my leak test and I have had it every morning since. I was told 2 cups a day max.
  14. Proton pump inhibitor, like Nexium. Excess acid can mimic hunger and most post-ops are on a PPI for at least a little while.

    Incorporating more vegetables...

How about Indian curries like palak paneer, which is made with spinach and Indian cheese. It is really nice and has a LOT of spinach.
  16. Another good purée or soft food is palak paneer! It is Indian cheese and spinach curry. Puréed really well and half a cup is around 100 calories. And has spinach! So good.

    **May 31st**

Oh no! Is your surgery going to be delayed? This is stress you don't need.
  18. mistysj

    Honestly..

In Australia it is a clear sweet liquid that tastes like licorice. I had to have two leak tests. But I just put my big girl pants on and got through it.

    May 2013 Sleevers!

How exciting! The May 2013 group is almost all sleeved! Good luck, Wes!
  20. Don't smoke within 48 hours of your surgery or you can have complications. And don't eat too heavy the day before because if there is still food in your stomach it could be bad news. I am not a smoker, just going by what i have heard. I think Dean went to that hospital. If not then someone else did on this thread.

    Who Are You?

I'm Misty. I'm American but living in Australia for the past 5 years. I love it here. The lifestyle is great. Also, having a public healthcare system is a huge load off my mind. I won't lie! I work in the software industry. I have worked as a says admin, engineer, technical writer, and now I manage a team of writers across three continents. I'm 35. I play the trumpet, spin yarn (spinning wheel), knit, read voraciously, and I'm a bit of a shutterbug. My husband and I love to travel. One of my favorite places to travel is New Zealand. The whole country is so beautiful it should be listed as one of the wonders of the world. Though we are city dwellers now, we had a small farm in the US where we raised sheep, goats, turkeys, ducks, geese, rabbits, pigs, and had a huge garden. We raised about 80% of our own food, learned to make cheese, butter, and soap, and I even spun the wool from my sheep and made myself a sweater. Those were some of the craziest and fun years of my life! But it is nice to be able to sleep in on weekends and to travel now. We don't even have pets now, except for fish. I have not knit myself any clothes for years because I was always going to lose weight any minute now. I can't wait to have some more nice hand knit sweaters and they will take so much less wool! I am also a grateful uterine cancer survivor since 2011. Ladies, get your yearly exams!

    Freakin' blender balls!

Can't you just wash them by hand?
