  1. I agree! I read it to Kelli as she drove.
  2. I am so jealous of you all who have to take fiber and laxatives! I know I won't feel the same if the tables are turned but I'm coming up on 5 months of the other problem! I hope that the colonoscopy prep has reset things. It worked that way when I last had this problem a couple years ago. As yet unexplained.
  3. Yes it's available for Kindle. That's how I read everything now. Home from the procedure. Frustratingly they didn't find anything obvious. I mean that's good news but I still don't have a root cause. Took some samples which they will test for malabsorption problems.
  4. It can help if you find a rhythm for your breathing based on your steps. I start at 4 steps in, 3 steps out. About halfway through I switch to 3/2. You need longer to breathe in than out.
  5. I have had Velveeta Shells and Cheese. Just about a cup and I was stuffed. Logged it on MFP and it wasn't nearly as "bad" as I thought. Even had protein. I find that eating it and then logging it takes the "badness" factor out and I don't need to feel guilty. I'm in control, not the food.
  6. Make a list of other things you can do besides eat and then do some of them. Go for a walk. Think of family activities that don't revolve around food, like taking a walk together or going for a swim. Get your hair and nails done. Drink something. Pray. Believe me, this will pass.
  7. Who was asking for book recommendations? I had forgotten about another one I am part of the way through, called Eat it Up. It's great. I think it's a good idea to use the first year post-op to learn as much as we can about why we ate the way we did and what food did for us, and find other coping mechanisms. You really won't need them much the first year (from what I have read and seen on this board) but if you put in the hard mental and emotional "exercise" you will have solid habits when you do need them further down the track. I keep having to remind myself that there is life after losing weight. I never got there before but this time I will. I want to get off the roller coaster at the bottom and stay off, and not ride back up to the top yet again. I hope that didn't sound preachy!
  8. I hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather (at least in Brisbane). I'm stuck at home finishing up prep for colonoscopy/endoscopy at 12:30. Lots of reading time. I was worried about the amount of fluids I would have to drink with my sleeve but it hasn't been a problem at all. This is the first time I have used PicoPrep and no troubles. I won't go into detail obviously! I just hope they find something and it's fixable.
  9. Thanks BTB, that means a lot coming from a runner like you!
  10. Another 7.3 km in 70 minutes! Is there another thread for graduates of couch to 5k or do you guys want me to stay?
  11. I lost 2.8 kg this week. It is ridiculous I know! I'm halfway to my personal goal and 6 kg away from surgeon's goal of overweight. I think I will definitely be overweight by the 6-month mark!
  12. Good luck Birdie and may you have a trouble-free surgery and easy recovery.
  13. I bet your husband will fall over with shock! Then he will jump you so be prepared!
  14. 7.3 km in 70 minutes! This was 10-minute intervals. Since the intervals were shorter I was able to pick the speed up a notch.
  15. I ran 7.3 km in 70 minutes today!
  16. How is everyone doing? I have a head cold which is no fun, but the scale is dropping like its out of style. Looks like I will have a nearly 3 kg loss this week! Then I have a colonoscopy Thursday which means liquid diet Wednesday and Thursday so I might have a good loss next week too. I'm only 6 kg from surgeon's goal, which is also the lightest my husband has ever seen me (in 2003). That puts me at the top of the Overweight range and I know I won't want to stop there. I'd like to hit that goal by the 6-month mark and I'm at 4.5 months now. As of today I'm unofficially halfway to my ultimate personal goal.
  17. Emotional First Aid is great. There is another one called something like The First Year and it has a woman on the cover and was written by her. Look up "vertical sleeve" in books and it will come up. There is another one called Success Habits and it isn't only about the sleeve but also the other surgeries because the long term issues are similar. It's really good and there's a program you can join after to get other training, though it seems to be mostly in the US.
  18. Welcome aboard to all the newbies! Yesterday my swelling increased to both feet and shins. I was getting worried. This morning it's all gone and I dropped 2 kg overnight! Can you say water weight? If I still had my ovaries I would blame my cycle.
  19. Week 9 day 3 done! If I was doing couch to 5k I would have graduated today but I still have 6 weeks left! Those 20-minute runs are getting easier and I only had 2 minutes to recover this time. Next week the intervals get shorter but so do the recovery periods, and total time running goes up.
