  1. Anyone in Melbourne who can help out a gal who posted a new thread in the Aussie forum?
  2. Just finished week 12. I'm on holiday and currently in Sydney and where we are staying is very hilly so it had been challenging! I'm feeling the hills in my hips. Two weeks to the end of Couch to 10k!
  3. Checking in from Newcastle. We are going to check out the cathedral and climb to the top to get a good view, then check out the museum. We already explored the historic section of the CBD yesterday. We are also going to take a very cold dip in the Newcastle Ocean Pool. This afternoon we will be in Sydney for the next four days. We will be staying in half a house that the owners made available on AirBNB and we will be convenient to the CBD via public transit. It will be cheaper and better than staying at a hotel. We prefer living like locals when we can. I got my run in yesterday in Port Macquarie. 7km along the Water. It was gorgeous. I'm proud of myself for continuing my running regime. Eating is going well too. My restriction is good so I don't even feel like I have to make perfect choices. Between not eating much and so much walking and running I bet I will drop several kilos over the next three weeks on the road!
  4. Checking in from Port Macquarie! Tomorrow we will make it to Newcastle and check out the baths, then four days in Sydney. Having a blast so far. So much walking! I can't imagine this 25 kg ago.
  5. We are off for our 3-week road trip to Melbourne! Everyone take care. I will probably check in a few times and read what you're all up to. The plan is to eat sensibly, stick to the running plan, and have a ton of fun! I already realized I forgot my fitbit so I won't get credit for my steps but that's ok.
  6. It helps me to remember how much I hated it when people commented on how much or what I was eating. It was none of their business. Now I just tell myself that too. If it's a poor choice they probably know it is and feel guilty already. Feeling guilty never helped me get healthier.
  7. I'm still going. Finished week 11 of couch to 10k. Runs were shorter this week. Only 5.5 km in 50 minutes. I'm on a road trip for the next 3 weeks so running will be interesting!
  8. I do! It's tough. I just try to keep it to myself but I often slip up.

    Tummy tuck today!

Re showering, get one of those cheap plastic outdoor chairs and put it in the shower. Sit on it while you shower. This was a lifesaver after I had knee surgery a few years ago.
  10. I'm not very far out from surgery, but the main part of this forum that I read is the Veteran's Forum. I have so much to learn from the people who post there. And one thing that I have learned is that whatever your new reality is the first few months after surgery (not wanting to eat, not liking chocolate, only being able to fit in 500 calories a day, the weight dropping off no matter what you eat), it is not likely to stay that way forever. Since I know that the ease with which I stick to the plan is very likely to eventually wear off and get harder, I am trying my best to use this "honeymoon" period to learn good habits. I do have the occasional treat or make the occasional bad choice. Right now, the capacity of my sleeve limits the damage. But I can already eat a couple of Cookies or a single-serving bag of chips, no problem. And I could do that every hour or so, and really rack up the calories. And that junk food is so much easier to eat than dense Protein. So I guess my point is if you are less than 6 months out, don't assume that the way you feel and eat, and what you crave, will be the same for your whole life.
  11. Milked-down yogurt is a good option for the liquid phase. Also chicken stock, beef stock, bonox, Vegemite in water etc. Salty things to balance out all the sweet stuff. You can stir plain protein powder into things. Just don't put it into anything too hot or it will curdle. I found that alternating hot and cold helped too.
  12. It stayed down but I got the runs 2 hours later. With my history I can't blame the milo or milk but will try with almond milk tomorrow. I am a bit hungry now at 10:15 though.

    I can't handle the puddle!

I have that too. It will deflate and hardly be noticeable, but it's super tough waiting for it to go down. It helps if you avoid clingy materials like t-shirts and go for button-up cotton shirts or tops with an empire waist or ones that flare out a bit near the bottom. And high-waisted jeans help too. I find that wearing a belt keeps the jeans from slipping down.
  14. Don't eat solids too early because your sleeve is very swollen and numb, and things can get stuck in your staple line. Because the nerves aren't healed you could be tearing yourself up and not even know it. That early on, it really is life/death. Wait at least 6 weeks before doing anything risky. Unless you want to end up back in the hospital.
  15. I'm out of closet-shopping range because I haven't been this small in 10 years and I have moved overseas since then so none of my thin clothes came with me. It's spring here so I just had to buy a bunch of summer clothes. I went to k-Mart and spent $165 on singlets, t-shirts, and shorts. Shorts! Right now I am a size 16 from bottom to top, which is also weird for me to be so proportional. Anyway I chose shorts with a drawstring and t-shirts are good for a few sizes so hopefully that's my clothes for the next 3-4 months. Right now it is all about getting the cheapest stuff that will work, and I'm so glad that I work in a very casual office. Even though I'm a manager the dress code is jeans and t-shirts. Target has one line of jeans that are $20 and I have been just buying the next size down every time I need them.
  16. Just had Milo for brekkie after having Lissa recommend it to me. Pretty filling! I added 2tsp Benefiber and 5 grams of protein powder just to boost the protein a little. It's filling and not like an Optifast at all, and more protein than I usually get for breakfast. The test will be whether it lasts all morning.
  17. I agree! I read it to Kelli as she drove.
