  1. You look amazing, Bec! I had a gallbladder attack yesterday afternoon and it was a bad one. I'm still sore. Went to the GP today and ordered an ultrasound and some bloodwork. I wonder if the gallbladder is also causing my diarrhea. I am sort of hoping they will want to remove it even though I don't have time for a surgery right now! In good news, I will probably get to my surgeon's goal by my 6-month mark on 14 Nov. Hard to believe I went on holiday and lost almost 3 kg! I'm 4 kg away now.
  2. I got it before surgery because I was so fat the skin kind of closed up my belly button. It was always a yeast infection. No problems post-op but I have lost a good deal.
  3. I finally had the follow-up with the gastro Doctor about the endoscopy and colonoscopy I had before my holiday to try to see why I have had diarrhea for 5+ months. I don't have celiac disease. I'm not lactose intolerant. I don't have anything physically wrong with my stomach or guts except I still have evidence of reflux so I probably need to take nexium forever. So we are going with the hypothesis that my digestion is happening too quickly and releasing bile directly into my intestines. This is called bile acid diarrhea and is not too unusual. The doctor put me on something called Questran, which is a cholesterol lowering drug. It binds to excess bile and makes it "neutral" somehow. That's how it lowers cholesterol. I don't have high cholesterol but apparently it will still absorb the bile and might give me some relief. It is a sachet I have to dissolve in half a cup of Water so I am nervous it will be gross, but if I can get some relief I will put up with it! We will give it 6 weeks and see how I go. At least it's cheap! $36 for two months worth.

    Enabling

To me the most harmful part of those threads is the way people say they were "naughty" or "bad" or "a rebel", but they wear it like a badge of honor. They aren't really ashamed and they aren't really going to change their behavior. They treat it like its cute or funny. It's not cute or funny. It's life or death and that's why we had a drastic surgery and permanently changed our anatomy. This is serious stuff and is so much more important than chewing up a Doritos and spitting it out.
  5. Looking good Lissa! We are back home! It was a bit of a stressful morning as my husband woke up vomiting at 4:30 am. He had some leftovers for lunch that I warned him against and he paid the price, poor thing. So I packed everything f up this morning and I unpacked everything when we got home so he could rest. We are back to work tomorrow after our glorious holiday! Thankfully the only incident was that one at the end.
  6. Why do people say they are "bad" or "naughty" like its titillating or sexy when it's just a choice you are making? Nobody is going to "punish" you. You're not a child. You made a choice and you get to choose what to do next. Does it help you to feel guilty or to put a moral cost on it? It never helped me.
  7. I finished the Couch to 10k! In 14 weeks I went from running for one minute straight to running for 60 minutes straight! I went from a total distance of 1.5 km in a workout to 8.7. I'm still "obese" so if you are thinking you can't do it? Think again. Next goal is to get to 10k distance. I will keep adding 5 minutes a week until I do. Then I will work on speed to trim the minutes back off.
  8. I think she meant hard cider, which is often carbonated like beer. It seems that some people can tolerate carbonation and others can't. Go with what your doctor says if in doubt.

    Tummy tuck today!

Gamergirl, your "stretch receptor" theory is actually correct and this is the mechanism by which the sleeve and bypass work long-term. Look up "water loading" which is a trick you can use before a meal or to temporarily stave off hunger. It's also why dense protein keeps us full so long.
  10. I have been eating about 1000 calories a day most of this holiday. But I'm not able to even break even when I count my running and how much walking we have been doing. I swear I have dropped another size in the time we have been gone (3 weeks). Still 5 days to go but there will be less walking. It's funny though. When there is less exercise I am a lot less hungry and eat a lot less.
  11. Next to last run for Couch to 10k completed -- 55 minutes of running. Friday will be the last day at 60 minutes straight. Newbies, 14 weeks ago I was one of you. If you are wondering whether you can really manage it, I say you can. It's ok to go slow, even really slow. Speed will come with time. I'm still slow. I only finished 8k in the 55 minutes. Who cares? I'm lapping everyone who is on the couch! And no, running probably won't make you drop loads of weight. But it does create even more of a calorie deficit and it is so good for your heart, lungs, and mood!
  12. I am losing heaps of hair every day when I wash my hair but my hair is so thick that honestly I don't care. I'm sure it will grow back so I don't stress.

    Hard to eat foods

Anything dense or hard to chew. Dry chicken, steak that isn't too tender, thick or dry pasta. It's generally easy to predict so far. I had a tough time last time I was in Insia because the region I was in bases every meal on roti, which is a dry flat bread (not naan) instead of rice. I could only have a tiny amount or get the slimes. I lost 6 kg in 2 weeks on that trip.
  14. No I haven't scheduled a race yet. I haven't gotten to 10k yet, only 8. I had knee pain when I walked for about 8 hours one day and ran the next. All back to normal after a day of "rest" (only walked maybe 3 hours). I have another day off before I run again.
  15. Finished week 13! One more week left of Couch to 10k!
  16. I have been taking gastro stop two twice a day for a month! Eat some soup, Lissa. Maybe egg drop or got and sour or a bowl of Vietnamese pho. If you can tolerate dairy have Greek yogurt. Try a probiotic. Inner Health is apparently the best one. It's behind the counter at the chemist. Good luck!
  17. Good luck Ausmith and your husband! The heparin injections really aren't a problem. You may hit a vein by accident and get a huge bruise but it isn't anything to worry about. We are now in Lake Tyres, having left Canberra last night. On our way to Melbourne today and for the next four nights! I've been faithful with my running and have not had any problems with food. I've had several glasses of wine so far and even had some thin pizza and some nachos. The running covers a multitude of sins as I have been negative on overall calories most days! We are doing a ton of walking too. My shorts I bought for this trip (size 16) are falling off. Thank goodness for drawstrings. Hard to believe I was 5 months post-op on the 14th!

How do I tell him I am not interested?

Hurting his feelings? The guy who told you after the first date that there was no spark? Why are you being so much nicer than he is. Just a simple no thanks will do nicely.
  19. I'm 5 months out and have had hunger nearly the whole time. The difference is that it doesn't rule me. It comes at the "right" times, it isn't for specific foods, and I don't feel a compulsive need to "fix" it like I did before surgery. It's also satisfied by less than a cup of food by volume. Not a big deal. I expect it might change.
  20. 5 months post-op and still have normal blood glucose numbers with no medication. I was type 2 diet and metformin controlled. To reiterate, type 1 is auto-immune and can't be "cured." Type 2 outcome depends on how much of the problem was insulin resistance and how work out the pancreas was.
  21. Just go up a level to see all the threads in the Aussie sleevers section and it's right under this one. Without looking I think her name is Anna. So far only Americans have answered her.
