  1. Glad you are back, Jen! My gallbladder surgery will be on the 20th and I need to be in hospital overnight. Not a big deal and I expect to be working (from home) by Friday. I hope this fixes it all! Saw my surgeon today (also my sleeve surgeon) and he is so happy with my progress. I've lost 30 kg, 70% or excess weight, and I'm right on the cusp of being "overweight"! He thinks I should shoot for a BMI of 27, but is prefer to get all the way to 24 or even 22. We will see!
  2. If you go into the app and get errors saying you don't have permission, you are probably logged off. To log back in you need to kill the app and restart it. To do that on iOS, click the Home button once to get to the home screen, then double-click the Home button and swipe the BariatricPal app upward out of your list of running apps. (This is on iOS). I see lots of people with these permission issues and I hope they will see this and stop reporting it. Now, a couple theories about why this is happening. Alex and co will probably know for sure. 1. Maybe it is a time-based logout. If you haven't viewed the site in X amount of time, you are logged out? 2. Maybe you can only be logged into one instance of the app at once (one session). I have both an iPhone and an iPad and I always seem to be logged out of one of them when I use the app on the other one. I can't prove this for sure.
  3. I had surgery 14 May 2013 at 98 kg. I expect to be 68 kg within the next week and my 6-month anniversary is 14 Nov, also this week. That will put me 30 kg down (66 lb) and exactly at 70% of excess weight lost. This was my surgeon's goal as it puts me at the very top of the Overweight range, rather than obese. Personally, I want to get to the middle of the healthy range if I can, which means losing another 18 kg or so. But I already feel like a success. How did I do it? I eat around 800 calories a day, get at least 40g Protein, and try to stay under 100g carbs. I'm not fanatical about the calories or carbs. I usually eat 50g of a meat for lunch and dinner every day, along with veggies and a little carbs. I started a running program and now run 15+ km a week in three runs. I log all food and exercise on MyFitnessPal. I do a lot of walking now as part of my everyday routines. And I stop eating when I'm full, regardless of what is left on my plate. I follow my surgeon's and dietitian's plans, which allow me to have everything in moderation. But I did not cheat one bit on the graduated diet. It's really hard for me to understand the severity of craving that makes people put their brand new sleeves at risk by advancing their diet too quickly. The first 6 months is the honeymoon. I realize that it will slow down and I will have to work harder to get the other 30% excess off. I'm not kidding myself that I have it all figured out. I have read every book I could get my hands on about the sleeve, bariatric surgery, and long-term success with changing habits and making life-long changes. I recommend "Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients" which is available for the kindle or iPad as well as in book form. Another good one is called "Eat it Up." I have read the Vet forum since day 1 because I recognize that they are living the hardest part of the journey. I'd like to lose the rest of my excess weight within the first year post-op, but if I don't, I hope I won't be devastated. The most important thing is not how long it takes me to get there, but how long and how consistently I stay there.

Alex If You Are Here Please Fix Site.

I have been in the position of responsibility for infrastructure and upgrades and I was a paid full-time employee. I never had to endure the amount of abuse and bitching that has happened here in the last few days. If I had, I would have gone straight to my boss and HR. The amount of abuse that has been heaped upon Alex and his colleagues due to this upgrade has been downright ugly at times. I just hope people realize that he could decide to just close the site completely and do something else with his free time, and that we should all be grateful to him for the time and money he has thrown into this site, just to educate people about bariatric surgery. This is not a government-sponsored website and it is certainly not our right to have access to it. It is our privilege. SydneySusan, fair enough, keep giving feedback. But can't we all be a bit nicer about it?

Alex If You Are Here Please Fix Site.

You don't pay anything for this site. Please have some patience and perspective.
  6. Using the ios app. When I get a notification of an update to a subscribed thread, I click the thread and it looks like I'm at the page with the first unread message. However, the content is actually page 1. To get to the real page with the unread content (say page 7), I have to click another page link (doesn't matter which) and then click back to the page with the actual new content. I hope that makes sense.

    What's your poison!

I enjoy a glass of red wine or a shot of nice bourbon. I prefer "pure" things instead of cocktails most of the time so I know what is in them. I do enjoy an old fashioned or a gin martini on occasion. I choose them because they are simple and don't use fruit juice. I used to love gin and tonic, but don't have that anymore for obvious reasons.
  8. Find a new doctor. HRT is safe and effective for most women. I had a hyst at 32 and I need to be on it until my 60s and you can be sure I did my research. I'm only 35 now so that's a long time.

    Suggestion for the vets forum

One that has risen from the dead!
  10. Post this in the Assistance forum which is at the very bottom of the forum list and they will sort it out. I bet it is because you changed your name on here and maybe it got confused.

    Suggestion for the vets forum

Oh well. I'm coming up on 6 months and was looking forward to chatting with the vets because I have a hard time identifying anywhere else on the forums. I guess i will have to wait another 6 months to do anything but listen in. I read the vet forum religiously already. Oops sorry I didn't realize this was a zombie thread. Is the vet forum 6 months or a year then? *confused*
  12. In the new iPhone/iPad apps, I get an error when I try to go past page 1. I know you guys probably know and I'm happy to be patient. Just wanted to post in case you didn't know. Thanks for keeping all the subscribed thread info!
  13. Bump just because this is a great thread!

    Anyone have skin issues?

Maybe hormones. Proactive is salicylic acid (aspirin) in a solution. It is hard on non-adolescent skin. I would consider seeing a dermatologist. If you are older than your 20s, your skin is getting more and more delicate and you don't want to damage it. For now I would consider a gentle cleanser like Aveeno or Phisoderm, maybe more than once a day. Make sure you use a moisturizer. A night cream (which is a bit richer) may actually help, because sometimes when the skin is oily it is overcompensating for needing more moisture. Make sure any moisturizer or cream is high quality and noncomedogenic (won't clog pores) and make sure your day moisturizer has SPF 15 or higher.

    Not losing anymore

Did you keep your ovaries? If not, your body is in a panic. You and your doctor will take some time to get your hormones stable. I had a total hysterectomy three years ago due to uterine cancer. If you have hyst questions feel free to reach out to me. I've lost over 60 pounds since my sleeve surgery, all of it post-hysterectomy. I expect to lose almost 40 more. It won't derail you. It will just take time.
  16. Looks like our thread is back in business. I hope you guys all find it again!
  17. Bump. Not urgent but that thread isn't pinned anymore and I can't edit it again. This is low priority as I know you're busy.
  18. I wanted to bump this again. I'm still having diarrhea but we have narrowed down the cause. There is something called bile acid diarrhea, which happens if your gallbladder isn't working right and dumps too much bile into your intestines. This can also happen if your gallbladder is removed. Ironically I have my gallbladder, but it is causing (other) problems and I need to have it removed. The treatment for bile acid diarrhea is a medication called Questran, which binds with the extra bile and makes it inactive. It comes in a powder that you dissolve in half a cup of Water and chug down. It's not the most pleasant thing but it stops the diarrhea in its tracks. It's cheap too because it is a pretty old medication. It is a prescription. There are a few other medications that do the same job but Questran seems to be the most common. This is actually not the primary use of Questran. It is mostly used to lower cholesterol. So if you have had all the other tests done and still have diarrhea, or if you don't have your gallbladder and you are getting diarrhea, consider this. I have been dealing with this for almost 6 months now and I'm so relieved to have found a solution. It is possible I will be stuck with this forever after I have my gallbladder removed, but it is easy to control with the Questran.
  19. This seems to be fixed now. Thanks!
  20. Way to go, everyone! I missed one run this week due to a gallbladder attack and I now need to have my gallbladder removed. I hope I can get it done next week but I will probably miss another run or two. It doesn't matter though. I will be back to three times a week as soon as I can!
  21. Ok it seems like I can get to some pages but it varies per thread and I can't get to the last page or on long ones, the last few sometimes. I bet the database is still syncing. Please don't take this as a complaint. I've maintained sites like this before and can't stomach the people who complain about something they get for free and you spend hours on!
  22. I can't get to the last few pages of the thread in the new app yet but I think I can post. I have to have my gallbladder removed and my sleeve surgeon Reza Adib will be doing it. I meet with him Monday and I hope he can do it soon so I don't have another attack and I can heal before my next trip to India in December. I hope everyone else is doing well!
  23. I have oodles of stones and sludge in my gallbladder according to my scan. Hopefully back to the GP tomorrow to see what the next step is. Target seems to be discontinuing the $20 jeans I've been living in. I went today and bought size 14 (new current size) and 12 (next size) for $8 each! I guess I can spring for the $49 jeans when I hit 10.
