  2. I love it that I can eat just a little of something and be satisfied. We had a thanksgiving celebration here on the weekend (no official thanksgiving in Australia and I miss it so we have a big party every year) and I had my 50 grams of turkey and a spoonful each of stuffing, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, and cranberry sauce. For dessert I had a bite of my husband's pie. And it was lovely. Even better, I enjoyed the cooking, the socializing, and was able to really take the time to count my blessings. Plus all the compliments from those who have not seen me in a while! I didn't stress about what I would and wouldn't eat. I knew my sleeve would take care of the quantity I could fit in so I made sure I had enough Protein and a taste of everything I cared for. It was an utterly refreshing and affirming experience.

I handle it by my husband being the main cook in my family. Maybe your husband can cook some. Are the kids old enough to learn? Maybe sometimes you have sandwich night or a salad with cold meat on it? Or slow cooker meals you can start in the morning? It's really normal for you to not be interested in cooking food you can't or won't eat. Why was your husband denied? Not heavy enough? I bet he is crazy envious of you because it probably seems to him like you are on easy street now. I wish my husband would do something about his weight besides complain. He isn't heavy enough for surgery but I've never actually seen him lose significant weight. He is probably 15 kg overweight (30 lb or so). He started running but seems to snack enough to maintain equilibrium. When he complains I have to bite my tongue so I won't say "So do something about it!" I would have hated it if he said that to me. I know this, because he did sometimes. It's weird being smaller than him (I don't think my BMI is less yet).

I have the sleeve. I'm not insecure in the least. I wanted to post about a ban in NZ because someone asked which surgery they should get, and I thought that was important info. But I couldn't find proof of it, so I didn't post it. I didn't expect to be attacked for looking for proof of a statement?

    2.5 Months...stall

You would get more answers if you posted on the Forum for general questions as it is higher traffic than this one. But stalls are very normal. You don't need to anything but follow your plan and the stall will break. Hang in there!

I tried to find proof that the lap band is no longer offered in NZ because I wanted to post it on another thread and I can't find any reference to it. The following website is still up and you would think they would take it down, wouldn't you? http://www.lapband.co.nz/
  9. In Australia, and I believe in Europe too, the band and bypass are hardly done anymore. The band used to be extremely popular in Australia. I believe we were #1 in the world. Also, though VSG for weight loss is a new surgery, gastrectomy for stomach cancer or other stomach problems is a very old surgery, much older than any of the other bariatric procedures. It is possible to live a relatively normal life with no stomach at all. Of course, those old gastrectomy surgeries were all laparotic (open surgeries, not laparoscopic), so the fact that it is laparoscopic adds even more reassurance to me. But for me, the sleeve seemed the least invasive and lowest maintenance over time. No fills and fewer possible Vitamin and mineral deficiencies (though you do still need to supplement with the sleeve). No limitations on medications I can take when I get old. No limitations on endoscopes or feeding tubes if I am sick later in my life. Also, I CAN eat anything. (It doesn't mean I choose to). Quantity is the main thing affected (though there is emerging evidence of some malabsorption and decreased transit time with the sleeve as well). Also, the sleeve can be modified into the bypass or DS if medically needed, but you can't go the other way.
  10. Get a second opinion. A huge number of Sleevers have hiatal hernias and repairing the hernia is a standard part of the surgery. I'm one of them. It's just an extra scar at your bra line. Choose sleeve or bypass, but a hernia is not a factor.

As Of Today, I Am A *veteran*.

Rather than making my own post, I'll join yours and say "Me too!" As of November 14. 64 pounds down, it's hard to believe. your progress is amazing too!
  12. The site and the app are working for me, at least as well as before and better in some ways. Thanks for the hard work getting the bugs ironed out. The only thing still crashing is the subscribed forums on the iPhone app (reported elsewhere).

    Self Sabotage

I was your husband. Best thing you can do is not be his food police. Maybe offer to fix him a snack before you go to bed so he knows he doesn't have to hide, knows you know he snacks and it's ok with you.
  15. Most of us have lost it tons of times. The surgery is for keeping it off. In combination with your hard work.
  16. I wanted to check back in here. A few things have happened. First of all I need to have my gallbladder removed and that is happening Wednesday. I'm not worried about it and expect to only be out of commission for a couple days. I don't even see how it could keep me from running for more than a few days, but I will listen to my body and see. Second, I have had some strange knee pain. Here is the background. I have a really bad ankle due to mechanical problems with the ligaments and nerves. I really need surgery. If that foot hits any instability at all, the ankle can collapse without warning. Even just walking on a tiny pebble on the sidewalk. So I have always done my running inside, including all but the last three weeks of the Couch to 10k. I did those outside (very carefully) because we were on a road trip vacation and outside was all I had. Those runs actually went very well. I went faster than I expected to and felt better than I expected for running outside. And I didn't fall. I got home and did a run on the treadmill the first day I was back, and had knee pain. I never had knee pain before, even 20+ kg heavier. That's weird. The treadmill is supposed to be easier on the joints, right? I had knee surgery on the right knee a few years ago and wouldn't be surprised by a bit of soreness there, but the other one was sore too. I chalked it up as an oddity and ran again two days later. Even more knee pain. Hmm. So two days after that, I just did a short run and took the weekend to recover. The next week, I ran again on the Monday and the knee pain hadn't really gone away. I had the gallbladder attack on the Tuesday and couldn't run on the Wednesday. I did a short run on the Friday and felt a but better, but the next few days I had a ton of knee pain just walking around, especially walking down hills or stairs. I asked for advice on MFP and BTB advised that I try to land softer. I did that today and I felt better. I managed 6 km in 50 pain-free minutes. Now to see how I feel tomorrow. We are having a party and I will be on my feet all day, but I won't run again until Monday. Then I will miss my run for the rest do the week but will surely feel up to walking by Friday.

    18 Month Follow Up

You look great! Do you consider yourself at goal? By the way those pants are way too big! And you look so much younger now.
  18. It would be rude for them to say "I'm so glad" or something like that. It is a catch 22. And when they are saying "don't lose more" (I am getting that now), I think it is just because they can't picture it. When I tell people my goal weight, they always respond that it is too thin and I will be skeletal. But they are projecting that goal weight onto themselves. I am 4'11" which is way shorter than most people. I knew a few healthy-weight women at similar heights and ages and they look great at 45-55 kg. But when I tell people that's my goal, they just can't imagine it. They think I should stop now, and I'm not even "overweight" yet (though I'm on the cusp).

Band food compared to sleeve food

I haven't had the band, only the sleeve. But there is a thread somewhere in the sleeve section about what foods are hard for people to eat. It is mostly dry dense Protein like dry chicken, or steak, or tough veggies, or rice or Pasta or bread. With the last three it is just because you get full too quickly. With the others it is if you can't chew it well enough and it just sits heavy. Things don't get stuck like with the band. You just get too full or things sit wrong. But for most of us, there are very few foods like that. I can eat almost everything. I just can't eat a big meal. Maybe 3/4 of a cup total and I feel full like Thanksgiving. I'm 6 months post-op. I hope that helps. I eat around 800 calories most days and I don't get hungry between meals. I don't get hard-to-resist physical cravings often. Sometimes I get head hunger, but I can usually ignore it. If I decide to have what I'm craving, a small portion is all I need. Oh and I have no trouble with liquids. I can drink 16 ounces of Water in 5 minutes (less if I'm really thirsty).
