  1. That's what it is from. It is what Australians and New Zealanders (and maybe South Africans) call British people because their faces tend be red. I think it might have started with sailors and their chapped sunburned faces. It is a(very mild) insult.

    Cycling Newbie

Well I went out again today. My husband rode his bike and stayed slow enough for me to keep up. Starting to figure out the gears. We stayed on the bike paths near our house and went 7 km in 30 minutes. It was fun and not too hard but I was sweating by the end. He showed me how I can add at least 20 km more round trip and stay on the bike path most of the way! My butt is sore right on the bones where the seat hits. It is literally two spots about an inch in diameter each that are sore. When I was a lot bigger, my whole butt crack area would get sore and bruised and raw (tmi) after a couple of rides. That's why I never kept it up. I think the soreness now is more normal and I will get used to it after a few rides. I don't know if I was too big before or the seat was wrong or the bike was wrong or a little bit of all of them. It is humiliating to take your bike to the shop and say your fat ass is in agony and please adjust the seat. It's amazing what I used to put up with because I was so ashamed about my size.
  3. Yes! It's not like I did it for any of them. I did it for me, my perception of myself, my health, and of course my husband's visual pleasure (but that is way way last, as he has loved me at every size). I sure as hell didn't do it so my coworkers or strangers can think I finally warrant attention for my body.
  4. Of course I realized. I'm sharing my reaction, which may or may not be rational. I have a feeling it is a pretty normal one and one that lots of us will need to work through.
  5. It is a select few who misunderstood something they were told and are spreading false information (probably innocently) online. That's why it is always best to do your own research and not just on Internet forums.

I Feel Good... And Its About Timme

Grammy, do you know that your posts are all wacky in the app? They are full of code. I can only read them properly if I click the post to load it in the website. I still love reading them though.

same forum... Or not. Sigh. Ooh I think I have it in the paste buffer. Just got a bike! It is a hybrid bike and not strictly meant for huge speed or distance. I want to use it to add some exercise to my weekends by cycling to church or the shops. I already run three times a week, 6 or so km per time. On the bike, I'm a newbie. I mean, I know how to rise it, but I'm a bit wobbly, don't have a lot of strength or stamina, and don't really know how to use the gears. I'm a bit nervous using the bike lanes. I can ride on trails but that won't really get me to church or the shops so I need to learn to ride on the road on the bike lanes. So any advice for me! Any training plan like the couch to 5k for cycling? I don't want to race or ride huge distances but I would like to get more comfortable on the bike.
  8. Off to Work party #1. I really don't have anything that fits me great but it is better to swim than look like a beached whale like I did last year! Congrats Susan!

Shepherds pie has lamb and cottage pie has beef. Otherwise they are the same. GG, the profile pic only from a few weeks ago when we were in Melbourne. I bought a bike and rode it 5 km home! I'm exhausted but proud. I got this one: http://m.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/globe/work/work-2-step-through

So I'm on my way to shop for a bicycle. I don't even recognize myself. Love my sleeve. Me a year ago:
  11. After you are on full solids, there is no restriction on food types that you are able to tolerate with the sleeve, since you have not modified your overall digestive system. Some people do have intolerances to really dry tough mega or really tough veggies though. Less invasive than the bypass because nothing is rerouted. Only the shape of the stomach is changed. I'm assuming this is what she meant. It is my viewpoint as well, although such terms are naturally subjective. As for the person who said that the complications only happen early on with the sleeve as opposed to the band or bypass, we don't have the science to back this up yet. There is very little data on the sleeve 10+ years out. However, I do believe this will end up being true.
  12. Want a shock? This photo was taken almost exactly a year ago, at our annual Thanksgiving party for the expats.
  13. Welcome! Reza did my sleeve 6 months ago and just removed my gallbladder two days ago. He is brisk and to the point but a great surgeon. I don't recommend his dietitian Andrew. I recommend Diana Barr who also has rooms at the Wesley. With the sleeve and Di's advice I am down nearly 30 kg in the 6 months. I have progressed to being able to run for over am hour straight and I'm thinking of buying a bicycle so I can get more exercise on the weekends. I feel great and love my sleeve

I've been to Auckland and they definitely have McDonalds. How come you had to go to the US to see it! By the way, New Zealand is my favorite country, and the Bay of Islands is my favorite bit.
  15. I had a hard time at first with serving myself too much food, but you can't fit a lot in. It doesn't take much to feel stuffed like Thanksgiving. You get used to it and you make sure to eat the protein first, and a bite or two of veggies. Eventually you can fit a bit more in (by the 6-month mark, I can eat about a cup total) because the swelling has gone completely down. It takes a bit longer to eat because you need to chew carefully, so I don't generally finish before whoever I'm eating with. Really it doesn't take long to get used to it.
  16. You can't post there until you have been sleeved for 6 months, but go and read the veteran's forum. You can learn a lot there. We have several Sleevers more than a year out. CowgirlJane, Fiddlerman, Butterthebean, CLK, Laura-ven, Georgia, coops all are well over a year, and I'm sure I have left a bunch of people out.
  17. Could be bile acid diarrhea. Sorry to be gross, but is it liquid and yellow? If so, ask your doctor for Questran. It is a bile acid sequestrant. Some people's bodies produce too much bile and it gets I to the intestine instead of being re absorbed. I have struggled with it for 6 months. I just had to have my gallbladder removed and my doctor said it might have been caused by an over active gallbladder or it might be even worse now because the bile will flow straight through. In either case, the Questran works really well even though it is a bit unpleasant, like drinking Metamucil.

    Anger Anyone?

Have you guys considered journaling when you are angry? And maybe asking your family for some alone time or going for a walk? You are wives and mothers but you are individuals too and you need to honor your emotions. Maybe get a babysitter for one evening a week and take yourself out on a date.

    The Last 10 Lbs

I'm nowhere near close, but it seems like people have used the 5:2 for the last few pounds. How amazing that you are so close!

I'm an American in Australia and we don't have it either. But it's my favorite holiday so we host it every year here and it's a big hit. We had 30+ people over this past Saturday for the gathering and it was so much fun. I had no trouble eating. I measured my turkey and had a spoonful of all the other things I wanted. The leftovers are almost gone now. Almost everything I'm used to eating for thanksgiving is pretty sleeve-friendly.

    Anger Anyone?

If you are used to eating your feelings and you can't do it anymore, they will come to the surface. Realize that anger is not bad, wrong, sinful, whatever. Nobody died from being angry. Let yourself feel it. See if you can trace it. Think back over the last few hours or days. It may be that someone is not treating you right. It may be that people are treating you better since you have lost weight. Or maybe people are putting expectations on you that you aren't comfortable with. I get angry realizing how much of life I missed because I was fat and how many times I decided I wasn't worthy of love or happiness because I was fat. I have had to grieve for my old self and honor my feelings, in order to move forward.
  22. In the iPhone app, but not the iPad app, clicking "Subscribed" then "forums" crashes the app for me. Every time. I have force-quit the app but it doesn't help. This has been going on for several days. So many problems have resolved on their own that I wanted to give it some time before reporting it.

Just fine. IV is out, squeezy leg things are off, had breakfast and about to shower. I've already dealt with work email too. I can't imagine not being able to run by Monday.
