What a blessing but what an adjustment. I think that puts all the "small stuff" into perspective, doesn't it? And yeah, you look just alike. Uncanny!

Happy birthday! You have no idea how your next year will be but let me tell you if my first 6 months sleeved are any indication, you will be amazed at your progress by next year!

I think that is one of the hard things. We grow up as girls dreaming about going to the prom, going dancing, the wedding. And always those beautiful dresses that look perfect on slim figures. Then if you are overweight or obese when the time comes, it just takes a little bit of the shine off. I feel like there was so much I had to "settle" for when I was obese. It is too bad. It that's just the way society is, I guess. I'm thankful that I can make new memories now though, and I feel like I have picked up some wisdom along the way that not everyone else would have.

You look so great! You have stunning legs. I would never guess you had been overweight. Wow, lady!

It sounds like she is depressed and lonely. Some communities have services where the elderly can talk to a counselor and/or get involved in some social activities such as a walking group, book club, craft club, or gardening group. I wonder if your mum would be open to any of these. It doesn't sound like the food is a problem but it is a symptom. At any rate, I really feel for your mum and for you. What a tough situation. I wonder if you could go with her to her next doctor appointment and have a word with her doctor.

Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery
mistysj replied to hayleylamas's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Congratulations on making your decision. I applaud you for doing the research and being open about your choice and I wish you the utmost success on your journey! -
Just past 6 months. 20w to 14 so far. almost overweight!

Awesome! You look great. The wedding photo .. I was heavy when I got married too, and I loved my wedding but the photos also make me sad. I have thought of renewing our vows maybe for our 20th anniversary (still 7 years away) so I can be thin in wedding photos. Is that weird?

I'm Having A Minor Melt-Down
mistysj replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the tech industry and not customer facing. I have always just worn jeans and t-shirts. They fit and I could find them at every size. Well I am a manager now (have been for two years) and still wear jeans and t-shirts. It is acceptable day to day, but as I advance in my career I really need some dressier and more professional things for meetings, travel, etc. I am actually excited by the thought. But I am still losing very fast and dropping at least a size every couple months. So right now I have one pair of jeans (which are too big), one pair of black pants (which are too big), several t-shirts which are too big, and two button-down shirts I can wear camisoles under. Two months ago we went a on a 3-week holiday and I bought like 6 t-shirts and 4 pairs of shorts in size 16. All too big now. I have to hem my jeans because I am 4'11". I have size 14 and 12 in a bag and have not gotten around to hemming them. I'm worried the 14s may be too big. I only paid $8 for them. So I feel stuck. I need to start getting nicer clothes but I can't yet. Hell I have to get a new swimsuit because my husband's company Christmas party is on a yacht on December 20 and I don't know what size I will be. We are going to a semi formal party for New Years Eve and I won't be able to get a dress until the last minute. But I will be able to wear heels without my feet killing me! These problems are so weird. I think I am due for a second closet clean-out tomorrow. I keep wondering what my final size will be. I would not be surprised if I could get to a 6 even. It is so wacky. Oh yeah by the way it is coming to summer here. Southern Hemisphere. -
I have been told that for people without hypertension, excess salt is washed out of your body assuming you drink enough water. So as long as you stay hydrated it apparently doesn't really matter. I know lots of us do struggle to get all our water in though. I bet with the reduced caloric intake comes a natural salt reduction.

I'm not on the Questran right now, just waiting to make sure all the surgery stuff is sorted out first. I think the wound is healing well, the pain is somewhat less. I see the surgeon again on Monday and we will re-evaluate then. I am on day 3 of 5 for the antibiotic.

Happy Thanksgiving! It's my favorite holiday and we have a big party every year even though Australians don't have thanksgiving and it is hard to find a turkey that weighs more than 4 kg (8 pounds) here. This year the party was on Nov 16 and we had about 40 friends over. This was my first sleeved Thanksgiving and it was perfect. I got my 50 grams of turkey, a spoonful of everything else I wanted, a couple bites of pumpkin pie and a couple glasses of wine. The leftovers lasted almost a whole week and I never got sick of it and I didn't gain weight (in fact I lost). I really treasures it this year. I feel like I have so much to be thankful for and I am truly blessed to have been able to have VSG and finally start winning the weight battle.

I'm Overweight! Let's Celebrate!
mistysj replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have less than 1 kg to go until overweight. I started super morbidly obese 6 months ago! I have not been this light since I was 18 years old when I went from around 55 kg to 70 kg in a single year my freshman year of university. I am now 35. The closest I have gotten since then was when I very briefly smooched 70 kg after 3 years of obsessive Weight Watchers from 2002 to 2004. I couldn't make myself keep up the obsession and just couldn't get lower (or maintain). This time I feel HOPE! -
Never Full, Constantly Hungry
mistysj replied to Katharine83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of people do feel lots of hunger until they are in full solids and can eat dense Protein. Also you may well have hunger a couple hours after eating, but physical hunger should be easy to satisfy. You simply won't have much capacity. Don't be fooled by not feeling the restriction at first. Your nerves are still healing and liquids and mushies go through quickly. They would be classified as sliders later in your journey, but they have their place in the beginning when your stomach is healing. And the stomach acid "hunger" is real. Most people take a PPI like Nexium for at least the first 6 weeks. I am 6 months out and still need to take 20 mg nexium each day. This is totally different from tums or rolaids. It doesn't neutralize acid but keeps your stomach from producing as much. Some of our stomachs still want to produce enough acid to digest our old normal food capacity even after the surgery. -
"The average American woman weighs 166 pounds. New data suggests that the Plan B morning-after pill is less effective if you weigh more that 165 pounds, and won't work at all for women who weigh more than 175. What's more, writes Kate Clancy (an anthropologist who studies women's reproductive issues), the dosages for regular old daily birth control are set for average-to-low-weight women. If your BMI is over 25, the pill won't work as well for you." http://feedly.com/k/18jDbPo

Vitamins -Pills after fresh vsg or only chewable?
mistysj replied to Water Nazi's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My surgeon prescribed me pills the day of surgery and the nurse administered them. He explained that pills are hard and will work their way through, but that anything mushy or gluggy wouldnt. I had no trouble. But OP, don't take advice on the Internet. Follow your surgeon's protocol. -
So What Exactly Is "normal Eating?"
mistysj replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think normal eating is to be able to leave the last cookie in the bag and forget about it until it goes stale. For food not to "call your name". To make the junky choice very rarely and in a small portion, and to have the self control to choose the healthy and small meal most of the time. To take a moment and think about what the body actually needs for fuel for whatever kind of activity is ahead. To balance short-term thinking with longer term goals (and that isn't just a number on a scale). Not hiding food, not eating in the car, not always choosing the "bad food" or choosing the "good food" because you feel too guilty for wanting the " bad food." Not doing things with food that you are ashamed of. Removing the shame from food. -
How Do You Know When To Stop Eating?
mistysj replied to sweetie022972's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still measure everything and don't eat more than 2/3 of a cup at a serving. My other signals are actually FEELING full, or flat out losing interest in the meal. But I didn't get those signals until I was on solids. -
Are You Having Someone Stay With You In The Hospital?
mistysj replied to Mel1071's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband visited but I didn't want him there most of the time. I was just sleeping/resting and kind of out of it. He was just a phone call away and he did visit every day (I was there two nights). When I felt up to it, I just read. Never turned on the tv. -
Congrats on reaching your surgeon's goal! wow that seems quick! You must feel great. I know what you mean about sizes. I am just moving to 14s and it is so hard to believe. I'm so happy there is some action on this thread and everyone is finding their way back!
