    Info From My Surgeon

This was not meant as a lap band bashing post it a pro sleeve post per se. We all have the reasons for the choices we have made. I just want to make that clear.
  2. Don't worry about it. Speed will come with time.
  3. Thank you so much! It feels quick right now but it is probably that I have been posting more about it. I have lost pretty steadily at least 1 kg per week, pretty much the whole journey so far. I'm so grateful for my sleeve. I'm about to be on the road for 3 weeks and I find that I lose really quickly when I travel, so we will see how that goes. I will be in India (Pune and Bangalore) and while I love the food, I find it hard to eat much and socialize, and I don't know all of my go-to foods in Indian cuisine, so I tend to accidentally fill up too quick. Especially if I attempt the naan, chapati, roti, or pulao. Or dry curries.
  4. That's awesome! You must feel great! My big news for today is that I am overweight! Today is my last weigh-in until Dec 20 as I will be on the road, so I'm so grateful I hit this milestone today!

Trying again to attach the photo.

    Quoting Issues

Alex, your own post on this thread is an example. LOL Here is how it looks in the app.
  7. I haven't made shakes part of my routine actually. Maybe I should try them again. The on,y ones I can get here that are decent are Optifast and chocolate are the only ones I find palatable. During my post-op I made the mistake of the cheaper optislim, which were quite thin and chalky. We certainly don't have the variety you have in the US, especially with the premix. I'd love to try the Syntrax Nectar but can't find it here.

    Info From My Surgeon

Thanks all for taking this in the spirit it was given, as information from a particular surgeon (who has done over 100 sleeves a year for the past 3 years and fewer before that) but not as a researcher. It is anecdotal but still interesting. He was quite candid with me about the balancing act between the concerns he has about the band and the desire to give his current band patients excellent care, in particular. I can really respect that.
  9. I did it too! Overweight!
  10. First run since gallbladder surgery today. I only did a quick 3k in 20 minutes. Could have gone longer but I was pressed for time. Finally that incision is healing up and it felt good!
  11. I think you are reading the book that came our of this article? I have started it a couple times but it is so dense (like protein) that I find it hard going. I also find protein to make for very plain eating even though I know it is good. I certainly don't crave it which I guess is the point! It is amazing how easy it is for me to have less than 150 grams of carbs in a day since the sleeve though. I tried Atkins before and found it just impossible. The amount of protein it took to get me full when I had my whole stomach was just unpalatable!

    Boot Camp Diet

I'm so sorry for your loss. What you need is a big hug. Be good to yourself.
  13. Hi! I have a couple of questions. 1. I made this thread a while back and I think it might be helpful to pin it: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/85182-list-of-vsg-post-op-diets-from-surgeons/#entry879875 2. I would like to edit the first post of the same thread, to add more diets that people have left in the comments for me, but I am unable to edit it. I'm not sure why, since I can edit other posts that I've made. Can you shed any light on this?
  14. Bump to remind about making that thread editable. Thanks!
  15. It took me ages to go from 20w to 20. When I got into normal sizes they started dropping more quickly. A size about every 7 kg (15 lb). I have lost over 60 lb now and gone from that 20w to a 14. So I still have a long way to go. I suspect the sizes will stop dropping as quickly soon. So probably the middle of the journey is where you will change the most.
  16. The version of HTML is on the server in the actual web page. It is specified at the top of the file in an area called the DTD. You can see it if you choose View Source in your browser. Deprecated tags are not required to be supported by the browsers but still typically work for a while after deprecation. But it is not likely that Kathy is using that tag on purpose. Somehow it is being inserted into her posts.
  17. The first three days are the worst, but if you stick to the letter of the law, after day 3 it gets a lot easier. But cheating makes the whole 3-day thing start over, so don't even think about it. You got this!

What Are You Packing For Lunch?

I posted a few recipes for purée things that you put in muffin cups, during my purée phase. pumpkin ricotta, chicken burrito, chicken rice, and another one. You will find them if you search the food and nutrition section for my posts. One muffin cup = one serving and I was aiming for 6 per day. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251749-how-to-puree-chicken/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251750-chicken-burrito-puree/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251752-chicken-casserole-puree/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251755-spiced-pumpkin-ricotta-puree/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251754-tuna-casserole-puree/ You can freeze them all and just microwave them.
  19. Second to last post here: <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/200121-who-are-you/'>http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/200121-who-are-you/</a> And if I click it to see the HTML, it has a terrible pink cursive font. Also every post by one specific user. Username likasulema, aka Kathy. She is a sleeve vet and really helpful but all her posts show as code now. I think she had set her default font to be wrapped in <strong> tags.
  20. FYI the gastric bypass and RNY are the same surgery.
  21. Ok my lunch today. It won't be everyone's cup of tea but here goes. 50 grams roast beef lunch meat 1/4 cup German selleriesalat (like sauerkraut but with celery root) 1 baby be 1.5 "stiratini" hard bread sticks Sriracha sauce for dipping the bread sticks The breadsticks are relatively low carb, go down easy, and ease the craving for bread. 190 calories and 16 grams of Protein.
  22. I had 3/4 of a homemade burrito last night. Flour tortilla, steak strips (I diced mine after they were cooked, refried beans, tomato, salsa, shredded cheese, a little lettuce. The amount of filling was small by the standards of pre-op but it tasted amazing and went down fine. I left about 1/3 of the tortilla and about 1/4 of the filling behind. But this is another point about being able to have your favorite foods again. If I ordered a restaurant burrito I would use a knife and fork, and pick out what I wanted from it and probably leave 2/3 behind, but it would still taste great.

If you can't do a pre-op diet you may not be emotionally ready for surgery. Post-op, attempting to cheat could kill you. It really is life or death. If you aren't ready for surgery don't have it yet. Wait a while.
  24. I will tell you in a couple years. But from reading the stories from people here who are 1, 2, 3, 5 years out? Yep.
  25. It's not very photogenic but another Indian dish that is sleeve friendly is dal fry. It is the Indian equivalent of refried Beans, I guess. To make it healthier substitute the ghee for oil and just use less. It is basically lentils cooked to mush with sautéed onions, chilies and spices stirred through it. But yeah. Photos of it look like brown goo.
