  1. Your story is so wonderful. We are all improving our lives so much! Not to mention the money saved on cab fare, food, and everything else!
  2. You have a different "issue" I suspect. Lots of women get their periods soon after surgery even if they have been very irregular for years. Your hormones start to regulate well before you lose significant weight. And be careful. That copious clear discharge can indicate the time in your cycle when you are very fertile. Look up "egg white cervical mucus" if you are curious. I hope you are using protection if necessary.

    Can't eat food

Just to clarify, we don't have a pouch but a sleeve.
  4. Good to hear from you Karen! You have done so well!
  5. Whey is one kind of protein. It is the normal one. There is also whey protein isolate (WPI) for people who have trouble with lactose. Egg protein, soy, pea, or hemp are some others. If you don't have a special reason you probably want to skip the special ones because they cost more and can taste worse. But if you are lactose intolerant or vegan you will appreciate them.

What to bring to a potluck

Sounds great! Can you post this in the Recipe Sharing area of the Food forum?
  7. Lissa you look lovely! I absolutely love your hair! I shopped all day today. Well, after I ran for 50 minutes in the bloody heat this morning that is. I had to do most of my Christmas shopping. I also needed to get a frock for New Year's Eve at the Brisbane Jazz Club. Remember last year I wore that red dress from Autograph? I posted an "after" photo a while ago showing that the dress was falling off. It was size 20 and fit great last NYE. Well I tried on heaps of dresses at MYER today and they all looked great! The ones that didn't, it wasn't because of the size but because it just didn't work for me. Shopping was fun and exciting. I didn't cry or have a crisis in the fitting room. I had to go back for smaller sizes! The dresses that fit were in a range of size 10 to 14 but mostly 12s. Woohoo! I ended up getting a 1950s style frock from Dangerfield, a line of vintage stuff including rockabilly, Lolita, swing, and other styles. In size 12! I will post a photo after I get ready on NYE because it is fab! And it was $108! When I was obese I would pay twice that just to get something that fit. I keep realizing that I don't have to put weight loss on my resolution list this year. Or exercise. My life has changed so much. I haven't seen some family since before my op and will be seeing them at Christmas. I can't wait and I'm nervous too!
  8. Try Protein made from whey protein isolate, which has no lactose. Plain whey protein is super charged with lactose. By the way, dumping syndrome has more than just diarrhea. Chills, fever, nausea and flu-like symptoms that last even after the diarrhea. And comes from eating excess sugar or carbs. This sounds to me like your digestive system is just irritated. You did just have major surgery after all.

    Beef Jerky?

It is for the solid food phase and can be tough to chew adequately. You can't hurt yourself by trying a couple bites if you are in the correct diet phase. Just don't buy it in bulk as you may find it isn't for you yet.

I'm not seeing these problems. Please delete and re-install the app and try again. By the way you can change the font in Settings.
  11. Thanks Sue and the same to you! I keep thinking this is the first year where "deal with my weight" doesn't have to top my New Years resolutions! Last-minute Christmas shopping today and shopping for a New Years party frock. I already went for my run even though it is bloody hot already!
  12. I understand! I took this photo three weeks ago.
  13. Look at skinny Santa! I'm doing a run outdoors this morning and at 8:15 it is already 79f (converted from Celsius for you guys). Whew!

    Still hungry?

Probably in your head. Maybe some thirst or stomach acid. Are you on a PPI like nexium? Acid can feel like hunger. Also possible that you still have excess grehlin in your blood stream. Or that you are hungry. But the last one is doubtful, this early out.

    Puree

You might be at half a cup by 6 months or so. Or you might be able to hold more or less. You don't have to eat to the stuffed point and just know we are all different.

    Amazed

I don't know if you have seen posts from GamerGirl on here, but she and her husband were sleeved the same day by the same doctor. They each had different pre-op diets and other requirements. I didn't have to do a pre-op diet, have any pre-op tests, see a psychologist, do a bowel prep. I only had about a month between initial consult and surgery. My surgeon says you don't need a pre-op diet if you weigh under 100 kg and I was 98 at the initial consult. I didn't have drains or a catheter. Heck, I didn't have a catheter after my hysterectomy either, only my knee surgery. I was cleared to take non-chewable pills on the day of surgery and cleared to drink coffee in the hospital. The sleeve surgery is not the same as it was 5 or 10 years ago when Sleevers and bypass patients had the same pre-op and post-op protocols. Surgical tools and techniques have evolved. Sleeve surgery is faster and safer than it has ever been. Surgeons have more data to draw on. Some surgeons will be more conservative in their methods than others. With all of that, there is no point comparing your surgery to someone else's. You each chose your surgeon for a reason and each surgeon gave you a protocol for a reason.

    Creamy Stage Day 1

Of course you can have ham. Just purée it. Same with chicken. You probably should have blended the eggs too. Eggs are not creamy (I assume you scrambled them). Smooth peanut butter would have been better. I don't have a problem with a but of mashed potato but add some cheese or protein powder. you can have cottage cheese, I bet. And yogurt.

    Puree

If the chicken isn't smooth, add a little chicken broth. Yes blend tuna salad too. You can blend spaghetti sauce with ground beef (already cooked) and a little cheese. You can reheat pre-blended mixtures in the microwave. You can also add unflavored Protein powder and cheese to mashed potatoes. I blended banana with a little Peanut Butter. Or canned peaches with cottage cheese. Canned refried Beans work well too. Don't worry much about calories yet. I was lucky to get 400 in purée.

To eat or not to eat

Your protein shakes should be considered medicine. You don't wait until you are hungry to take medicine. As a bonus they count toward your liquids.

    formatting on ipad

Exactly. Alex, on your iPhone or iPad, edit one of our posts and you will see that the newline is turned into a single space. New newlines that you add are preserved .. Until the next edit. See? It even did it in my quote of Fiddlerman's post.

  23. These things are not dumping syndrome. Dumping does not mean diarrhea. Dumping is from undigested carbs getting too far down the intestine without being digested. It can cause diarrhea, nausea, chills, and other flu-like symptoms. But you wouldn't get it from lobster bisque or salty broth. You get dumping from sugary things like soft drinks, fruit juices, or candy. And sleevers usually don't dump. It is mostly a phenomenon that occurs in RNY or DS because the intestines are modified and the pyloric valve is gone. Diarrhea can happen during the liquid and purée phases because you aren't eating solids so solids might not come out. It can also happen if you have too much fiber, like having lettuce too early. Or if food just doesn't agree with you. Or if your gall bladder is acting up. I have a lot of experience (7 months) of diarrhea because of gall bladder issues. But it's NOT dumping syndrome. If you have it for months at a time like me, you should be working with your doctor. I just wanted to clear that up because I see people mixing up diarrhea and dumping syndrome all the time here and they are not the same thing.

    Trying to find balance

I stopped the shakes when I went to purée too but I have put them back in because they are easy. I'm 7 months out and have one a day. It has 17 grams of Protein. I'm in Australia so don't have as many choices so I use Optifast. You may not hit your protein goals while on purée. Cottage cheese is full of protein and was a go-to for me.

Test Is it fixed? Well it seems to be. When I edit the post it turns the newline into a space in the edit window. But does it put it back when I save? Nope new lines are removed on edit. Almost fixed.
